  1. It's time to thank all those who have contributed to Demonland during the past season and to all those who post here or simply visit and read without posting. We value your contributions and ongoing support - especially to Nasher who keeps us going on the technical side, to our moderators whose task is often thankless - especially so when we go through yet another season where the wins are outweighed by the losses. Special thanks to our regular contributors, Whispering Jack, George on The Outer, The Oracle, JVM, KC from Casey and all others who have contributed. Once again they have had to report on games and subjects that have been difficult to write about in 2015 because of our club's lack of on field success. We're all looking forward to a bigger and better season in 2016 and that the stories and news we bring you will be more uplifting and exciting than those gone by in recent times. We are always looking out for new contributors who have something to say about the mighty Demons. If you want to contribute an article feel free to contact me via PM. Cheers & thanks again. Andy

  2. I'd probably rather keep Tyson if that were their offer.

  3. 2nd rounder for Melksham and the Scums 3rd round. That 3rd rounder to Collingwood for Kennedy. Basically Melksham and Kennedy for our 2nd pick. Bit to play out (the annual Dodoro grab for glory that will no doubt hold things up), but that's the word right now.

  4. Whilst not an 'exciting' name, Bugg (along with Kennedy & debatably Melksham) adds to the overall quality of the team. Apart from their ability to kick on the left foot, they point to an attempt emulate another Hawthorn trait. If a soldier goes down, another can take their place. Our publicised targets offer depth in areas of need, are versatile and all would challenge for best 22 spots. Competition for spots increases when the squad is fully fit, and we have league average (or better) replacement players when injury inevitably hits. Whilst attracting a 'star' or two would be great, we also have to look at improving the overall quality of the team as well. Crucial as we look to climb the ladder.

  6. Here is an update on Jack: Trengove confident ahead of make-or-break pre-season He is ready to start the preseason and hoping for rnd 1 but that isn't a given. He is incredibly realistic: Seriously admire his resilience and fortitude. Deserves a bit of luck. Look forward to seeing him run around the G again!

  7. Why on Gods green earth would we trade out one of our best mids for ? Dom had a quieter year compared to '14 but if he ended up at Richmond I'd be seriously pist off.

  8. Jacks is clearly one very positive and very mentally tough guy. There aren't many guys who have to put up with as much during their career and the way he has handled it has been fantastic. I cannot wait to see him back on the park, because I imagine the joy he'd be feeling at that time would be absolutely amazing.

  12. Thread has been pruned to remove the juvenile innuendo posted about some of our female players. It's a shame that these types of schoolboy antics still exist at a time when the women's game, and particularly the MFC's prominent role in developing it, is really kicking goals. For those of you who think it's all harmless fun and political correctness gone mad, imagine it's your daughter or sister whose picture was being drooled over, and see how that stacks up for you.

  14. What's the real story behind Kennedy though? Rated by more than not, Pies will take a pic in the 40's for him in a supposed weak draft? What are we missing here?

  15. WTF does Prestia's height have to do with anything, the proof is in the pudding - which is a young kid coming 2nd and 3rd in the BnF at a club that has Ablett. He is a gun, end of story.

  17. I cant help thinking about last year and all the mice and clock and Dangerfield talk. At the end of the day despite being " disappointed" we did end up recruiting both Brayshaw and Petracca with the picks that we may have given away. Petracca is of course an unknown but by all reports... Cant help but wonder how much Adelaide be regretting that now. Dangerfield is of course an out and out gun and Id love him at the club but at the expense of Brayshaw and Petracca? not sure. So, "big fish" while satisfying to catch dont always lead to the greater success. If we end up with pick 6 this year it may yet be a good thing.

  18. Seems sensible to recruit 'cheap' players who are young, competant but not yet achieving great things. They are basically replacing draft pick 60+ (or Bail/McKenzie), and we will know much sooner whether they are going to deliver, while someone else has already paid the coaching and resources cost to get them through their first couple of pre-seasons. Obviously within limits. The hunt for serious quality through draft and trade must go on. But it also must be remember that modern sustained success examples like Hawthorn, Sydney and Geelong did a lot more trade-based recruiting of quality players once the terms-of-trade had shifted in their favour by being able to offer success and a proven competent operation. Right now, we appeal to players trying to break into a team. In three years we'll be the club of choice for mature players looking to eject from sinking ships. I promise!

  21. Roos talked about the new interchange cap bringing shut-down players back to prominence again on 360 last night. It's no surprise we're heavily linked to this guy. Put Hannebery and Boak to the sword late in the season. Hardly inspiring but at least we're nibbling away.

  23. Watts, ha, is not a mid, if he plays consistently in 2016 it will be from a high HF with ventures onto a wing. 2 of the other 5 are kids and Trengove is a walking question mark. I think size is important but can be overcome - look at Viney, he is 6'2 when the ball is in dispute...

  27. Right. When the Dogs pay $1m for Boyd, the Swans pay $10m for Buddy, the Saints take McCarton at 1, talls like Carlisle and MCarthy and Cameron are being offered huge salaries yeah why would you want to lock away a gun key forward like Jesse. Jon Ralph is an Ess f.log.

  29. A massive thanks to you Andy, to Andrew and all of you who have helped provide such a wonderful sight for Demons fans. As someone who lives overseas, I love being able to get on here and talk some footy with fellow Demons fans, as God knows there isn't any other opportunities living in rural Nepal!

  30. There are few people I have wanted to see succeed more than Jack. Poor bloke would be rated as an A grade midfielder by now if his body hadn't failed him. I hope like hell that he can get a good run at it and become the fantastic player that he looked destined to be

  31. this is why he's so special in my eyes.. he is one of the few who inspire me these days. he won't back off, & won't throw the towel in. made of special stuff.

  32. Prestia's height should play little part in the discussion. One of the top 5 clearance players in the league when up and going. As if he's not perfect for us. Okay, so he's not 6'4, but who cares if he plays like he does?

  33. Wow what a narrow assessment. And said so emphatically !

  34. A typical one-eyed supporters response. 'Thrilled' at the thought of keeping an underachieving and terribly inconsistent senior player and 'underwhelmed' at potentially picking up three players who will without doubt help the depth of the list and are upgrades on those who have been delisted, thus improving our side overall. Really pushing the foresight boundaries there.

  39. Very easy to believe that we are recruiting Ben Kennedy and Bugg given that they're both left footers - I'd say lock it in. Someone on the recruiting staff is big on lefties. My guess is it's Viney? Something he got to see up close in his time at Hawthorn. SInce he arrived: Kent Salem VIney jnr Tyson Newton White ----------------------------------- Brayshaw (might as well be) not unlike Mitchell Vince (might as well be) Something that has stuck in my mind from watching training up in Maroochy in Jan (especially from an elevated view point) is how noticable the piercing left footer's in our team are the back-bone of the game-plan, with their ability to obliterate the opposition modern day press etc. And when you watch Hawthorn, they are the best kicking team in the competition for this very reason. Also, you don't have to go back many years to remember when Davey was at his best, how the team relied on his piercing left foot kick to set up play. So this might put things into perspective if there is any doubt about what we might be giving up to get these guys - I like it. Go Lefties!

  41. Would trade pick 6 for prestia in a new York minute! Forget any kids in this draft because they haven't proven a thing at AFL level. Prestia is a gun!

  42. You refuse to trade pick 6, but you'll happily trade Gawn, leaving us with only 1 ruckman on the list next year being Jake Spencer! Geez, i know which of the two i'd happily trade first.

  43. After speaking to him my impression was that the deal is already done and I expect that he'll be signed as soon as trade week officially opens. This gives me comfort knowing the club is currently chasing other unknown targets. So please GET AROUND HIM! By all means he must prove himself and earn the respect of the club and its fans, however he shouldn't arrive with any negative connotations derived from the Essenscum supporter base.

It's understood the Demons are exploring their options with Watts. In some good news for Brisbane Lions fans, ruckman Stefan Martin will remain at the club next season. The race for Brisbane ruckman Matthew Leuenberger appears down to two, with his manager Paul Connors confirming he would move to either the Bombers or the Swans during the trade period. Carlton footy boss Andrew McKay has revealed the Blues expect a first round pick from Geelong in exchange for Lachie Henderson. The Cats have revealed they are also keen on securing Henderson. Carlton footy boss Andrew McKay has also revealed the Blues will consider recruiting Jake Carlisle in the pre-season draft, should they not be able to secure a trade with the Bombers. New Essendon coach John Worsfold has indicated the Bombers may be interested in recruiting Harley Bennell from the Suns. Worsfold told NAB Trade Radio today the Bombers were interested, but would need to research his commitment into upholding the club's standards first. Patrick Dangerfield's manager Paul Connors says Dangerfield "will be playing for the Cats next year". Connors has also called on the Crows to accept the free agency compensation (currently pick 14) in exchange for losing Dangerfield. 46. John Ralph on fox did say he spoke to Hogan yesterday and was very optimistic and positive for the future ahead for the club. Tipping he will sign a long term deal. Roosy then said they sat down with him and told him about the bond of playing with your mates rising up together. Was all positive.
