It's called an opinion. Just like I thought Hogan was the best talent I'd seen at Melbourne in 40 years BEFORE he'd played a game. I also note that Simon Goodwin is on record as saying Petracaa had done things at training he'd never seen. He played 40 games with Dangerfield. Now I see a dill has suggested I'm putting "expectation" on him. No, it's just an opinion. My opinion could never come close to the expectation Petracca will put on himself. Dangerfield was pick 10 and didn't fire until his 5th year. Why is it fanciful to suggest that a power player with X-factor, like Petracca who was mooted to go pick 1, has the potential to be as good ? There are players coming into the game every few years who are going to be remembered as 'historic' players. It's just the dills on here that have no capacity to use foresight that become up in arms over such a suggestion.8 points

I don't understand this mentality - the club would not be so stupid as to offer this kind of contract to danger without having enough to keep hogan when his contract comes up. We have the $$ to have both.8 points

Vanders has: A) more presence than Matt Jones; B) more hunger than Matt Jones, and C) more awareness of where the goals are than Matt Jones. I don't think so!8 points

The thing is...get a player like Kennedy in and he'll give you probably 4 good years of high grade footy. Our own developing players start to come into the mix and you rely less and less on the imports but as you become a better team it actually becomes easier to keep topping up on good players as youre seen as a good place to play footy. its a process..an evolution6 points

The cap is $11m next year and will be about $15m when Hogan signs his million dollar contract. So paying great players in the interim won't mean that he doesn't get that contract... Might help him to re-sign that contract...6 points

I say that every year. Brownlow is overrated. We don't rate umpires doing their job, why would we rate how they think players play? My tip is Jake Melksham.5 points

He just goes out and plays footy. No airs or graces. Good solid player who I can only see getting better yeeha !!5 points

Lets not forget this mid missed all the pre season due to dislocating his knee twice. So to come out and play 11 games is a credit to him and our medical staff.5 points

Fyfe and Cale Morton played on each other as kids. Fyfe clearly poisoned Morton's Milo and stole all the talent for himself. We were this close to recruiting the right player. Apart from his questionable hair, Fyfe is an amazing player and a great guy. Really glad to see him win. Spoke well, humble, sense of humor. Straight swap for M Jones. Get onto it.4 points

Melksham's best would be more damaging than Bugg's. But Bugg's average game is better. Plus Bugg is super consistant. He is not a guy who will go missing during games or seasons. Melksham goes missing all the time. Bugg is much better defensivly and I would not hesitate to sign him up for 4 years. Even if the majority of our youngsters improve, Bugg would still be able to slot into our best 22. Melksham would slot into our best 22 next year, but I would expect a number of kids to go flying past him by the third year of his contract.4 points

Checked the phone book (as if) there's heaps of them. Hawthorn even had one. ps. Kim vandenberg4 points

I do understand this line of thinking. But the other side of the coin is if we bring in someone like Kennedy we MAY be able to sneak into finals next season. This would then create a snowball effect. We suddenly become an attractive option for players coming back to Victoria, plus we can top of with free agents who want to have a crack at a flag. I think it's more than just what Kennedy can bring for the next few seasons.4 points

I'm as bullish about Nibbler as any of the new boys. Loves the contest, reads the play very well, neat disposal and has excellent goal sense. After an interrupted preseason, he showed AFL quality and desire pretty much every time he got a show. An integral part of the new era is ANB.4 points

Perhaps you've accidentally stumbled on a solution to the refugee crisis here WYL... every scumbag found guilty of committing a violent act against a woman could be shipped offshore to Manus (or dropped off the boat en route) and a refugee granted a residential visa.4 points

Not a fan of Chip but his comments were nothing. Didn't have a go at the Dees. Just said that's why he went to Hawthorn. Fair enough really.4 points

Clubs with picks 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 also forgot to pick Fyfe up too.3 points

A mate of mine who knew Don Cordner well told me the story of his Brownlow win in 1946. Obviously no TV then, nor live coverage on radio I believe. Said that Cordner got a phone call from an VFL clerk the following morning asking him to come down to VFL HQ without mentioning the reason. When he got there the clerk told him he won the Brownlow and pulled the medal out of his desk drawer. Then he left with a handshake. No fanfare, no black tie, no WAGS.3 points

That would be a terrible trade. We will likely get the deal done with a 3rd round pick as the Giants have a surplus of mids and need to trim their list further.3 points

The remark about the team being in Bali was either a dig or just the sort of comment someone with limited neurons would make without intending the jibe. Take your pick. While I enjoy feeling bitter, I would have overcome my natural tendencies if he looked like he was trying last year. I don't buy the argument that he was trying but was being played out of position. That may have affected performance but not endeavour. So I balance that against natural sympathy I have for anyone facing the blizzard of balls coming into the Demon's defence in recent years and simply state - I don't give a stuff about him personally. I hope he stuffs up in the GF merely because it is another way Hawthorn might lose. But I do not like top clubs picking the eyes out of weak clubs despite the fact that we appear to have landed a good player as a result in this case. That will always be hit and miss - poaching an established player is close to risk-free.3 points

Kennedy is EXACTLY the sot of player we want. I reckon just about the most underrated player in the AFL and in my view is in the top 3-4 mids in the league. Perhaps lacks a little speed but more than makes up for it with his attack on the ball and ability to rack up huge contested and uncontested numbers. A warrior who perfectly fits the Roos ideal3 points

He'll be a permanent forward at his next home, and he'll be a better player for it. He was not and never will be a defender.3 points

I know that words written on a club website won't influence potential suitors but that season review for Jeremy sounded very much like a 'used footballer for sale' advert to me3 points

He also handed Hogan a few goals, Jeff was really unselfish in the red & blue.. He had a terrific first year at Melbourne.3 points

PLayed like he was out the door. Those fuclers at GWS threw a hand grenade last year with the late offer and its messed with his head. Word is his manger has been surprised by the lack of interest in paying him big bucks. May stay at the Dees by default altho I think Roos would be keen to shift as he has some currency. Would be a good trade bait in the deal for a stellar mid3 points

I can't help but feel that Howe is capable of so much more than he delivered this year. Whether that is from lack of effort from his part, opponents limiting his influence, or uncertainty around his future, or all three, I don't know. He was clearly down on his 2014 form, irrespective of his B&F finish. He has the tools be a seriously good player, but I'm not sure that he has the desire to be one.3 points

Boy, there's a lot of bitter and twisted posters on here. Most of you guys were pushing him out the door last year and rejoicing that we got Pick 3 for him. Yes he didn't have a great year last year but a lot of that was because he was forced to play forward. Fast forward 12 months Hawthorn tried him in the forward line and was ordinary there. He is a backman through and through. He gave us very good service for 7 years in the darkest years of our history. His comments the other day were not derogatory towards his former club. He just explained why he left....for an opportunity to be a premiership player. Isn't that the goal of 95% of AFL players? If he didn't go last year after the club only won 4 games, he would have missed the boat.2 points

I don't think it was a cheap shot. He left Melbourne for a chance at a flag, to play finals Every Melbourne player that has left on their terms over the past few years has made an effort to get to a top side. Harsh reality is that these blokes were at the club for a decade and never played finals,or only played in one or two, 8-9 years ago.2 points

An AFL pre season will do him a world of good. He will take forward steps again and lock down a best 22 spot next season.2 points

Could be our 'enforcer' moving forward. Set the tone with physicality and I remember against the Dogs he had them jumping at shadows. Really positive of what the future holds for him.2 points

I reckon Freo, like the Roos and Cats, are done. At least from winning a flag any time soon. Freo will probably be top 4 again next year and the Roos will probably scrape into the 8, but their lists have gone as far as they're likely to take them.2 points

I'd want Watts' replacement to be an upgrade on Watts, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Bird is more of a competitor, but I think Watts has more tools. Not to mention Bird will be 27 at the start of 2016. This would be a bad, bad trade, IMO. If true, it shows very much that the FD are happy to get rid of Watts for very little.2 points
