  1. I'm really nervous about this. What if there's some kind of Frankenstein-esque mix-up and Terlich's skills end up in Jesse's body?

  2. I'm sure it was a poor choice of words or possibly just paraphrasing, but gee I hate the sound of a player wanting "guaranteed" playing time. Guarantee your own playing time by busting a gut for it.

  3. Cut down in his prime but from all reports eager to get back into the AFL after being poorly developed by Richmond, Relton Roberts is a tackling machine who is unique in that he can kick the ball too. His highlights from only a handful of years ago show how exciting he could be. He along with Lumumba or Salem on the half back would terrorise opposition players for many years to come. I'm not sure of his current contract status, but I would think that $700,000 over three years to start things off could be enough to lure him back to Melbourne. We of course would need to use our first round draft pick on him as it is likely that other clubs are showing a keen interest in this once in a lifetime talent. We already know he looks good in the red and blue so let's make it happen!

  7. Gus came 2nd to Heeney in the 'Best 1st year player' at the MVP awards last night. Well Done! Gus has had a great year on the field. Showed real courage in every game, laid excellent tackles and showed serious fortitude to keep playing each week when he could have done with a rest. There were also some really special moments this year that I found particularly moving. -When he pulled Jones out of a scuffle at half time so his captain didn't get reported. -When he kicked his first goal (and several other times on the field) the bro love between he and Jones was terrific. -Carrying Cross's little boy (Tyler?) off the field, lifting his little hand up high, so he could celebrate with his Dad. He is already a star in my eyes!

  8. A contact who was recently talking to Gus Brayshaw's mum says he is quite an old fashioned boy when it comes to club commitment and loyalty. Even at the tender age of 19, he is apparently absolutely committed to the idea of being a Melbourne player for his whole career. He also has uncompromising attitudes toward his own standards. Another one for whom Nathan Jones and Dan Cross are their professional role models.

  9. 3 years, more money than Essendon. Goodwin a fan. Some of you guys need to remember not every deal is going to be a game changer.

  12. Yeah! What would that buffoon Goodwin know if he likes Melksham? It's not like he's coached with him or worked closely with him for several years or anything. We fans clearly know more than that idiot and his terrible judgement.

  13. Knowing full well that Sydney would take him at ND18. We were making a point. Unless you think that Sydney were a chance not to take him at ND18?

  14. I've been talking about his laziness and his limitations as a player since 2013. If you think it's just been 2015, you're kidding yourself. He is not a competitor. We'll trade him, nothing surer.

  15. “MAN CARRYING ENTIRE FOOTBALL SIDE INJURES NECK" News at eleven. In all seriousness, Nathan Jones is and has been one of our brightest lights in a very dark period for the Club. He’s like a beautiful bald flower that grew out of a pot of dirt.

  16. Think you might find it was Roos and Taylor doing the playing. We wanted Brayshaw.

  17. Perhaps if we're interpreting what was overheard, they were saying "How (not Howe) good are we, to have landed Dangerfield for just $400,000 a year for the next 5 years.

  18. I think we should take a lot of comfort that we are not leaking players like GWS, Brisbane and Gold Coast. In fact most are making a case to stay. This would suggest a very positive feeling in the group about the future and a strong bond between the players. Hope I'm right.

  19. Household favourite here. My 5 year old son is also an Angus and naturally has adopted Brayshaw as his fave. We got to meet him briefly at training before the R2 game at Manuka, conversation went along these lines: 5YO: Your name is Angus. Gus Brayshaw: Yep. 5YO: Guess what? My name is Angus. Gus Brayshaw: Good name, isn't it? 5YO: Yep! *conversation over* Name aside...he's a beauty.

  20. Acquired from sticking it out for the club and carrying a huge weight around it. Those who knocked him /suggested he relinquish the captaincy are not the types you would want on your side in a war.

  22. Id be super surprised if we were only content to flesh out ONE player There'll be a shopping list

  23. It's a non-argument. We've got completely different lists and Essendon's has been much much stronger than ours over the course of both Watts and Howe's careers to date. We see players just like Melksham being given chances every single year on many different clubs lists. Blease to Geelong, O'Rourke to Hawthorn, Schulz to Port, Martin to Brisbane. Some turn their careers around, others don't. Given the fact that we will not be landing five A-grade midfielders this trade period, if we're not paying overs, and the club know the risks involved, (re WADA) and think he's in the clear, why would anyone be against picking up a player who will clearly help the midfield depth at the club given the amount of delistings to we're going to see. A handful of whom will be midfielders. Goodwin has seen far more of him than any of the posters who won't shut-up about how upset they'll be if we get him. I would much rather throw a lifeline to a player like Melksham than have McKenzie, Bail, Matt Jones etc on the list. He's better than all of them and you're kidding yourselves if you think otherwise. Zero risk as he's depth at best atm and plenty of reward if he can get his act together. Look at what Taylor Hunt has done at Richmond after being in and out at Geelong for years. He's no world beater and I'm sure Richmond supporters weren't thrilled in the trade most likely for the same short-sighted views that are being thrown around here. No-one has to be overly excited about the idea of getting him. Lists like the MFC's need more than one or two years to build a strong foundation of depth, the right personality traits and characters, A-grade talent, role-playing ability etc. We're trying to change the club. But jesus it's like the world is ending up in here.

  24. For what it's worth, I've heard Howe wants to stay as he is good mates with Garland, who is staying, and he had dropped asking price by some $200k. Seems the club and the player are pretty unimpressed by the manager statements heard throughout 2015. The hot rumour is O'Meara is the Sun we are chasing.

  27. Age paints things in a clearer light. Melbourne now seem to be calling the shots. Not dissimilar to the the Dustin Martin fiasco where he was shopping around and then returned to his home base. JH to stay.

  28. Ten Angus Brayshaw possessions are worth more than a 20+ possession game from most other players

  29. I wouldn't. We should be aiming higher. Melksham is the bag of peanuts that we should be avoiding. Get proper (read elite) compensation for Watts, otherwise he stays. The same goes for Howe really.

  31. Prestia would be a perfect fit our list. Then we could just target leg speed after that. We lack a clearance player the calibre of Prestia.

  32. And I think we're seeing the same thing play out again this year. As it did with Sylvia as well. It's actually incredibly simple. Just low-ball on a contract until the player looks elsewhere. The only difficult part is ensuring you get adequate compensation. This is where 'Melbourne is a basketcase' has actually helped out. Outsiders have backed themselves (in some cases arrogantly) to get the best out of blokes we're really happy to get rid of for the right price. The industry view of the MFC, I'm told, is improving and I wonder if this will ironically play against us this year and next?

  33. how'd he get away with playing in just a yellow sash?

  34. I for one aren't quite as happy. Thought he suited our needs nicely. Still think we need someone with some pace off half back to go with Salem & Lumumba.

  36. I think Jack will be traded too. The time has come. I like Jack. He's got great skill and decision-making and he's a loyal clubman, but he's not a competitor either. If we truly want a dynasty of success at this club, he has to be traded. All that remains is a good deal for us and his potential suitor. NOTE. If Jack's value on the trade table (ie the procurement of someone like Prestia, in a package deal) is greater than that of his worth as a best 22 player, he will and should be traded.

  37. Exactly this, he has been loping around taking speccies and avoiding hard ball gets and defensive AND attacking accountability his entire career. He is EXACTLY the kind of non-committed player Roos and co. are trying to weed out. The unfortunate thing is, as is the case with Jack Watts, that he is a very talented and skilful footballer. More and more at this club talent alone counts for nothing, and that's a very good thing. We don't need Howe, and we certainly don't want him.

  38. He can stay on our terms. Let's play out the 'just get rid of him' scenario - no-one wants to trade anything for him of value, we baulk at the ND56 we have been offered by the only club that is the race for him. He goes into the draft with his terms on his head and that club takes him at ND75 or PSD5. We are left with the equivalent of a delisted player and the player we pick at the end of the draft is delisted a year or two years down the track. Suddenly, you have turned a third tall forward on the fringes (at worst) into nothing. Do that enough times, and you are left with a little bit of (2008-2013) history repeatin...

  40. Good riddance. Mister Negative who was against everything progressive. He set the bar so high for everyone else in positions of authority. There were no excuses for failure by others when he was purely a sniper in opposition. Once he found himself in a position of responsibility having to make decisions he was a complete and utter failure of the first order. Unable to work with people, unable to develop coherent policy, no grasp of economics, unable to communicate the basics without talking to you like you were an imbecile. The Infrastructure Prime Minister who I don't believe managed to build a Federally funded national toilet block in his tenure, That was Tony, the attack dog who dragged our politics to a new low level. His personal attacks on Gillard were beyond anything we had experienced in our politics to date. And his advocacy for the coal industry is beyond the pale in my view environmentally but just plain stupid economically as well. He will be damned in history in 50 years time I suspect. Other than that he was OK.

  42. I'd happily lie to a stranger in that situation if it put an immediate stop to a line of questioning, and was put on the spot. It might have been Colin's way of saying "I don't want to talk about it", but as the major introvert that he is, didn't think of the "flat bat" response first. It's something I can relate to.

  45. Did you see his game on Saturday sans-Franklin? Did you see his 2012 season at the Crows? He is light years ahead as a second forward/second ruck option than anything we have or could really hope to get. I doubt we will get him so it's mainly a hypothetical argument but for a Melbourne supporter to turn their nose up at Tippett because we have Dawes, Fitzpatrick and an ageing Pedersen is frankly unfathomable.

  46. I'll answer my own question. My mate just sent me a photo of all the coaches down in Ocean Grove (my neck of the woods-Geelong) at the Collendina Pub enjoying a meal, a beer and whatever else. Perhaps delistings will come after their break. Can post picture if you want, but it is a little blurry but this is what he said (half winding me up etc.)- "I know it's blurry, but what you see in the photo I have posted is a first hand account of the Melbourne Football Club's coaching committee enjoying a meal and a few beers at the Collendina Pub tonight. This is as close as I got before Todd Viney looked as though he was ready to break my nose. You can see Roos, Goodwin, Rawlings, McCartney (only his scalp) Allison and Viney. They all seemed very chirpy and relaxed. I distinctly heard the name 'Howe' mentioned, and '$400,000' as well. I also heard Brett Allison tip Priddis for a back to back brownlow. They also seemed satisfied with the meals, and Rawlings is left handed. Heard it here first."
