To help people make a balanced view of all this, I can reveal that the Demons are looking to trade into the Top 15 in order to offer two first round picks, in this case 3, 12, for Dayne Beams. Paul Connors has conceded that Brisbane is not an unlikely option for Dayne now, and you will notice that Collingwood are now publicly reporting they are open to other offers for Dayne. Melbourne is asking for pick 48 in return from Coll, and this is believed to be enough to get Sam Frost into the club. It's believed Collingwood will only have 4 picks at the draft this year, and with 3, Moore, 12 and 30, then 48 may not be required anyhow. However there is work to be done to convince Dayne to accept terms with another Vic club, but I'm confident in what I'm hearing that remaining @ Collingwood is now his last resort. Pick 3, 12 for Beams and 48 Or in effect Frawley, Trengove and pick 23 for Beams and Frost How does that look everyone? Win wins around I think... My credibility in all this? I can't give away my place of employment but im in regular contact with Connors Sports Management, Dayne's management group, and have been particular busy today as his future today included Melbourne entering the picture... Plenty to play out but the above will become public knowledge soon enough I'm sure, happy to give my fellow Demonlanders the marginal heads up first24 points

Extended his contract when Scully took the money and ran. Accepted the captaincy when we were at our lowest. A role model on the training track and originally injured his foot doing non-compulsory preseason training sessions. Even the article sights him as being 'reluctant' to move to Richmond. I don't get overly worked up about list decisions the club makes - but this one would do my head in. This is like trading Woewodin all over again.14 points

There's a real schoolyard bully mentality on Demonland at the moment particularly when newish posters contribute. It's getting really boring.14 points
-
Something big must be going down for Melbourne to entertain the idea. Until we know what the club has in mind you can only judge this on the face of it and that is that it's a pretty ordinary deal.12 points
-
Really don't like the look of this. Jack Trengrove showed us loyalty when he initially signed on for three years. Unless he wants to leave I think it would be good if we showed our players loyalty back11 points

I hadn't heard anything for nearly a week and thought this dead. hearing now things looking very positive. for those scoring at home, same source that gave me Clark, Roos and Bartlett. im very confident tonight.10 points

In terms of outrageous trade rumours, JJH post is the best constructed and most convincing that I have seen.7 points

Its not like the guy has asked to be traded. He isn't even that sure if he wants to. Obviously the kid still wants to help the club and yet we are thinking of offloading him? I will be so disappointed in Roos and the rest of the staff if this goes ahead. Unless we have a big name player ready to come you don't just trade out a pick 2 who in 2011 showed he could be a future star of the game.7 points
-
Happy to give up both ex captains, Trengrove and Grimes and 20 something for 12, time to move forward and recruit someone who can play, sure both are good blokes and may sign the back of your jumper, love the club like Mitch and Spud Frawley, but both have little ability and 12 is a bargain, would even throw in Dawes...7 points
-
If it's driven by the club then it seems near certain that we need the pick 12 to make another deal work. Coupling 2 or 3 with 12 can only mean a very very good player. I'm excited. Where's the 'Trust in Roos' brigade when you need them?7 points
-
Hmmm this is very interesting. Jack Trengove is not what we thought...Pick 12 must already be in place for an improvement.. 8 years of failure here kiddies...Roos has been bought in to do the job Let's see what happens. Trengove has been sub par since 2011.......that is 4 years (88 Games....)7 points

Unless this is part of some elaborate and secretive three-way trade intended to snare Dangerfield, I call BS. I hope BS. Trengove NEEDS a pre-season. He NEEDS to be injury free. And he NEEDS to play under Roos for us to see him shine.7 points

Neeld had the right vision and direction, but was just a bad people person. His vision to bring in experience and install discipline and defensive strategies is not all that different to what Roos is trying to do.7 points

Everyone universally agrees that for MFC to move up the ladder it needs to completely alter the constitution of it's list. It's bemusing there is outrage at upsetting the status quo when that is practically what is attempting to be achieved. The list is unbalanced and the constitution of it needs to change so that we can play FINALS again. These are clever football men in charge. A good Melbourne player is not necessarily of AFL standard. Look at 2nd and 3rd in the 2013 B and F. We are rooted if we don't compare our list to the best in the league.6 points
-
There's more to a club and more to a playing list than cold numbers. Trengove is loved and respected by the group and has always been outspokenly loyal about the club. Commitment and culture is a two way street and a trade like this has potential to punch a hole in the playing list.6 points

The most entertaining part of the whole press conference was the live streaming that began at least 15 minutes before anyone came out, leaving a room full of unseen bored journos to banter amongst one another, until 2 mins before beginning someone notified them that they were already live streaming, to which one replied "nobody's watching yet. I didn't say anything bad anyway." When he was informed that 4,000 had logged in to watch already, some wag replied "that's more than the audience for fox sports news!" A few conversations were going at once, but I managed to make out a pair having a conversation about faking their presence at pressers when a couple were sent. It seems someone hadn't bothered turning up figuring their boss would never know, with one replying "I did the same thing at the presser for Malcolm Blight's sacking, but Wardy covered for me..." The other replied "yeah, done it plenty of times. At the Essendon-Geelong match, I was supposed to be there, but just stayed at home and watched it on the couch. No one ever knew." Except for those who read your game review and who you had in your best, mate. It's bleedingly obvious that too many of these clowns mail in their reviews. Bronx cheers were heard from the entire room when the door opened only to find it was triple M who had been running late. A lot of referring to "Mr. Mark Stevens" with exaggerated faux importance. I found it amusing to watch anyway. Shouldn't be wasting my time on this carp while I'm on holidays though. Bloody trade period.6 points

As a Knight of Demonland, I have bequeathed you as contrary and will remain as such until another Knight relieves you, or Nasher tells me to quit it...6 points
-
Take that bloke at 83 or in the Rookie Draft then... No-one else is picking up this fairy tale of yours. You just like being contrary. Garlett is a proven AFL performer. And has 5+ years left if Roos can screw his head on properly.6 points

I never wanted to hijack the thread. It just sort of happened that way. I know my place. I don't disrespect the MFC. I try to give an oppositions point of view while maintaining the fact this is a Melbourne FC website. I'm more than happy to stop talking about the Essendon scandal. There are no winners. I "came back" here because of last weeks tragic passing of Robert Flower. I'm not a troll and I'm not here to put peoples noses out of joint. Thanks for the support guys. BTW, todays Garlett trade was a steal IMHO.6 points

Classic I can just picture Lumumba running after Beams sayin I am getting too old for this $**t!5 points

I'd like to see Melbourne trade for Beams if for no other reason than to see the massive tanty Greg Swann would throw when pick 3 is included in the deal.5 points

Who the hell needs the real season? This off season stuff is way better. Time to abolish those stupid home and away games.5 points

ultimately, i'm putting faith in roos i've decided. i heard someone - another coach, i think it was - talking on trade radio about it the other day and ultimately players are 'commodities' these days. depressing, but true. it's all barassi's fault for going to carlton at the end of 64!5 points

me too BBO. Trenners and Jones are off limits. Their loyalty has been invaluable to MFC in keeping OUR loyalty through these tough years.5 points
-
Don't like it all. My kids sang its a grand old flag to trenners over the phone when he called them to encourage them to stick with the dees a year or two back. He showed great faith in us a year or two back, I reckon he will recapture his pre injury form next year and, mist importantly, it is our turn to show faith in him. Please don't do it.5 points
-
That deal is shizen by the way. Trenners AND pick 23 for pick 12? Richmond would be laughing. I'm not sure I could stomach seeing him at Punt Rd either. If he HAS to go, please make it Adelaide, not [censored] Richmond.5 points

The beams trade doesn't make sense to me. "I wanna go home due to family issues but now I wanna move across the road" Is Mitch the new manager of Beams?5 points

Richmind came to us with the deal, we have asked trenners if he wants to go, if he does the deal gets done if not he stays and we move on. We have not shopped him they came to us and we asked him that is acceptable I think. In saying that not sold on trenners and the pick.5 points
-
Here's the thing; I keep telling the Dees to get ruthless but when something like this comes up I'm conflicted. Treners showed loyalty, and we shafted him with early captaincy and it could be argued injury mismanagement, and now we could jut pack him off? I love Trenners, but if this was to complete a Danger trade or similar, I wouldn't shut it down..5 points
-
This is what "everyone is tradeable" looks like. No point throwing our hands in the air, this is typical of the kinds of trades that many here have been proposing in regards to players from other clubs coming to the Dees.5 points

This has been the case for as long as I've been a member. Old Rhino Richards the hero moderator was the worst of them all.5 points

I suspect that other clubs have been assuming we're desperate for a 2-for-1, Tyson/Salem style deal, and have been low-balling us because they figure we want to trade more than they do. Mahoney's comments today ("We're perfectly happy taking 2 & 3 to the draft" or words to that effect) are then probably a not-very-subtle message to those clubs that their offers so far haven't been close to the mark, and they need to step it up. If feels weird to actually have faith in the footy department. I might pretend I barrack for the Doggies for the next week, just because it's more familiar territory. ;-)5 points

Not trying to be clever but where is it sounding like something might be announced tomorrow?4 points

I liked his interview. As someone else mentioned he doesn't do footy speak which is nice. Got the impression that he loved being at Carlton till this year where he found it wasn't enjoyable anymore Would have gone anywhere. Nev Jetta a good bloke, Flash said the place wasn't all bad. Sure, why not. Seemed to light up a bit when speaking about next year. Roos has apparently offered him more on field responsibilities with a run through the midfield. The bloke is 25 years old and is entering the prime years of his footballing life. He has proven himself to be a good player and you don't just lose that. If he can get his head right, possibly feel a bit of love from the coaching staff and enjoy his footy again we will love this guy. Unlike many of our past picks Jeff is low risk at pick 61 but a reasonable shot at high reward. Yay4 points
