  2. Can't believe that offence is being taken at Terlichs and Georgious Rolf Harris' parody. I am sick of this politically correct world that jump on the small stuff and put major issues in the too hard basket. We need to get our sense of humour back.

  4. Sticks in my guts that that [censored] Merrett got off for his dangerous and damaging hit on Pedo while Dawes gets a week for stupidity

  5. I like the fact that Dawes does have a bit of mongrel and aggression in him - we have basically been a bunch of soft pizzants for too long.

  6. Sorry all, I made a mistake in the thread title. I meant to call it "another opportunity to have a crack at Watts". Don't know why I bothered.

  7. Way I see the Mitch Clark situation is the club and mitch came to an agreement to announce a "retirement" which effectively has taken any public pressure off him, at least until now "Extended leave" leaves the open a lot more open, and media/fans wouldve been questioning his recovery every 2nd week This time gave him the chance to recover from injuries, and mental recharge and give himself every chance of playing again, and if not then he gave it a crack!! Mitch's interest in football on twitter has shown how well he has been recoving mentally too i think, earlier in the year footy and MFC were never mentioned, now he comments about all the games!!

  8. A lot of ppl need to go and buy the book "Roos speak for Dummies" I Say this not as chastising , nor big-headedness but hopefully as thought provoking. PR often says things in a way to conceal the real thinkings behind the utterance. In reality there are probably about 4-5 players that would have a .001% chance of getting traded. What Roos is saying is..."Show us your players, we'll show you ours" i.e Lets see what anyone else is prepared to put up. If yo were to be too super selective from the get go you will not entice anyone into your parlour. This says "Melbourne is open for business" but all things have prices and some tags would be set very high making a deal next to impossible but we need to loosen the grip of other clubs to their players. You need to bait the trap.

  9. Dressing up as the convicted child abuser Rolf Harris and a young girl, presumably meant to represent one of his many tragic victims, represents an appalling error of judgement by Terlich and Georgiou. I also cannot believe that other players, particularly the senior players, who did not take one look at the moronic duo and kick them out of the function. And now I read on Demonland that it is political correctness gone mad to call them out for their moronic and offensive behaviour. Rolf Harris destroyed the lives of many teenage girls. How anyone can find humour in that beggars belief. Tom Potter

  10. Port Have every right to be outraged! Time the AFL brought equalisation into the clash jumper arena! EVERY club MUST conform. No exceptions! I reckon Port should defy the AFL, and wear their home jumper this weekend, anyway! The AFL should fine themselves for bringing the game into disrepute, because this clash jumper situation borders on high farce!!!

  11. Cant believe the afl are making port wear their away jumper for their home final because richmonds clash too much. Disgrace

  12. Just heard Frawley has now delayed his answer to the end of this month. Most likely waiting until the finals finish. as the team that he has decided to go to is still playing. And therefore cant annouce any details. I hope Hoges kicks a bag on him next year, or knocks him senseless. or both. I';m over Frawley, we have more important issues with the team.

  13. My favourite award. Six of them this year. #2 Nathan Jones continued his trajectory of steady improvement and has developed in to an absolute class player. Not to mention indestructable - he's missed one game in the last five seasons. Incredible effort. #4 Jack Watts cops heaps of criticism from fans and the media alike, but I doubt anyone would argue against the notion that he's close to our most reliable user of the ball, especially by foot. Personally, whenever he had the ball, I have complete faith that it won't go to waste. Roos' repeated public defence of Watts in conjunction with not missing a game makes me think the coach just does not share the view of the average member of the public on Watts.. #12 Dom Tyson has been a revelation. Bull of a midfielder who can go forward and kick goals. Like Vince, was crucial to the improvement of our midfield this year. It's bloody scary to think what we'd have looked like without these two. Man crush. #14 Lynden Dunn had easily the best season of his career. Looked very settled in the back line and seems to have eradicated the silly business from his game, turning in to a reliable defender. He has proven difficult to beat one-on-one, uses the ball well out of the backline, and has developed leadership skills. For me it was a surprising and very pleasing change of fortunes. #23 Bernie Vince added a touch of class which was much needed to our side. Personally I don't think he's reached the heights he did at Adelaide or for us during the preseason, but his recruitment has been vital to improving our side. Very pleased with this astute piece of trading. #38 Jeremy Howe used his marking prowess to good effect in the back line. Strugged early in the year - particularly in the forward line - but looked pretty decent in the latter half of the year I thought, having adjusted to defence and trusting his marking skills down there. He's a very good judge of play and has the best hands I've ever seen. Roos has said he expects Howe to find his way back in to the forward line - it'll be interesting to see whether that happens next year or takes longer than that. I expect all six of these players to feature heavily in this year's B&F along with Ro Bail and Tom McDonald who played 21 of the 22 games. Well done lads.

  14. Aside from offending a few people I really don't see the harm in this. As a society we have accepted and continue to support institutions that have systematically abused children, obstructed legal investigations and used legal structures and aggressive tactics to silence victims while saying football players should be put on a pedestal. Rather than write about what some 24 year old footy players did on their muck up day we should focus on holding to account the people who abuse kids. This is political correctness gone mad.

  15. Child rape jokes never really seem funny to me. I guess I'm a little odd that way. I'm content to file this under 'idiot boofheads who lack a meaningful grasp of what they're doing'. But it is still important to note that, yeah, that really wasn't ok you dumbarses. Unfortunate because it seems a lot of good effort, and even thought, went into the rest of the gear.

  17. Great. The paint is barely dry on a season where we couldn't buy ourselves a goal, and we've already ensured we're missing one of our KPFs in Round 1 next year. Thanks Dawesy.

  18. If it was the first time Dawes had done something stupid this season, I'm sure nobody would be too bothered. But given that his absence in round 11 was a significant reason for us losing the game, and now he's suspended again a few months later, we have reason to feel aggrieved. As an experienced player, and a supposed leader, who has massively underperformed this year, he has to do a fair bit of work to earn back some respect over the next 12 months.

  20. One thing that really stand out for me personally is how little we hear from PJ and the board now days, I think the signs of a really well run organisation is that the real heavy hitters hire very qualified people to run each department and they really just work in the background, I think PJ is a master of this I could imagine Schwab thinking he had a say in selection and all sorts of things

  21. For heaven's sake. If anything they are taking the [censored] out of Harris. Anyone would think they wore a sign reading "I love peadophiles". If they get anything more than a quiet word in the ear, it's massive overkill.

  24. I share your disappointment on Blease, Tapscott and Strauss. Tapscott could never get injury free and is limited, being short, not quick and difficult to place when available. Blease just never became a true AFL footballer, lacking in fitness and attitude, but who possesses pace and a good goal sense, Strauss just obviously did not impress Roos. I disagree on Watts. I think he went backwards this year. The dislike for him on here is the clear view of most Demonlanders as a result of his lack of commitment to the ball and the 1%'s. he was a favourite of mine but he has worn me down. I have probably never seen a more scared footballer at AFL level. His inability to take a contested mark even against midgets is unparalleled. His lack of urgency at the contest is unbelievable. His tactic of falling to the ground at every opportunity when there is a contest is soul destroying. Nearly every ex player commentating has seen it and said it. All this from a nice guy who has great skills, something so many of his team mates lack. I could imagine him kicking 3 goals a week at Hawthorn where he would be given the footy on a plate, while he is holding back off his man and there is a turnover. But to me he is just so disappointing in his lack of effort. I recall gong to a Draft function for the MFC at the G in the Trengove year. I recall being told as we entered the room, I was with WJ, that we wouldn't take Daniel Talia at pick 13 but rather Gysberts and thenTapscott. WJ knew of them and after a short discussion with him I started to feel sick. From what I knew of Talia I saw a 10 year Defender. I was upset for quite a while after that night and now it has subsided to outright fury. I have no doubt if our recruiting was done by a few Demonlanders, in the know at the time, instead of Prendergast, we would have had a football team now.

  25. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this season. A lot of players missed huge slabs of the preseason before the season proper started, and the only one of them to produce a decent season was Dom Tyson - and his season was an absolute ripper. Losing Clark, Trengove and Hogan was a huge blow and we never recovered. Recruiting of Vince, Tyson, Cross, Salem, Riley and Michie at least made us competitive in most games. The form of Garland, Viney, Watts and Toumpas was embarrassing at times, at least Viney showed some grunt and tackle pressure at times. Toumpas and Viney can be excused for being young at a club that has struggled with player development. Our skills, whether under pressure or free outside, were deflating, embarrassing, hardly VFL standard, and the reason we lost so many games when we were in front during the last quarter. This has to be a major focus of the post-Christmas training. The form of Dunn, N Jones, Pederson, Jetta, Tyson, Cross was our saving grace. Well done to these boys. The enraging footskills of co-captain Grimes who reads the play as well as anyone in the AFL, gets to contests, has courage and leadership, but is a worst turnover king of any player at MFC in my living memory. Might cost him the captaincy in 2015. I love the strength and consistency of the coaching panel. Even when we were losing games we should have won, they did not change their attitude, their public persona, the message... they just kept on with it believing it will work. Gotta applaud that. Loved having Roos as our coach this year, but thought late in the year he used the "this is a damaged group" line too many times and he needs to remove it from his chosen language for 2015. I am disappointed that a succession plan coach has not be named and added. However, this makes me think that MFC have already chosen and signed their candidate, but he is an assistant coach at another club, waiting for season 2014 to be over at his club prior to coming on over. I predicted 4-6 wins, thinking we would get only 1 in first half of season, and a few more in the second half. I was only partly right. I have to admit to feeling very deflated with just 4 wins, knowing we were in front during the last quarter in 10 games. And lastly, having to watch another finals season with Hawthorn and Geelong in it (I can just hear the commentators stiffening up at the prospect) makes me want to throw up. And now, I have the increasing frustration of a growing hatred for North Melbourne who have made finals ahead of us, and whose coach reminds me a of a incompetent, steriodal meerkat - standing up barking rubbish at all and sundry if they come to near "his precious players". I %&@#*& hate this time of year as a Dees follower.

  29. My opinion. N.Jones - better than 2013 Grimes - learn to kick Hogan - plz debut soon Salem - loaded with upside Watts - definition of mediocre Toumpas - injury riddled year Dawes - carried foward line Viney - second year blues Frawley - never fooled anyone Trengove - needs some luck Byrnes - get off list Clark - feel sorry for Tyson- played beyond experience McKenzie - absolute list clogger Dunn - proved alot wrong Clisby - who is clisby? Kent - showed raw talent Blease - waste of talent Cross - nothing but professional Strauss - another list clogger Garland - never gathered momentum Pedersen - played to potential Michie - potential work horse Vince - spark we need Kennedy - Harris - could be anything McDonald - never gave in Nicholson - catchya later maarrtt Riley - needs full preseason Hunt - dont know enough Evans - here nor there Barry - is good at? Tapscott - may be last Gawn - never gathered momentum Howe - liked down back Jamar - getting abit old Spencer - cant see it Bail - owe an apology M.Jones - slow-down to kick!! 31. Nice idea for a thread, h_h. Jetta would almost have it locked down but I think Nathan Jones deserves a special mention for taking his game to a genuine A grade level. As of last night he is number one in the league for total disposals (610, 27.7 per game), third in total clearances, first in total effective handballs and fourteenth in both total tackles and total contested possessions. His season has probably gone under the radar a little because we are now used to his steady improvement and consistency but boy, do I have a lot of love for this man. No one more deserving of the captaincy and I'd think he has the Bluey all stitched up.

  34. I have a problem with the AFL mandating that the MFC wear an All White clash strip! That is what I have a problem with. See we were one of the first clubs to accommodate a clash strip, it was all red and avoided clashes! However, the AFL re-invented the colour wheel and deemed red dark colour. What a joke. I hope PJ fights hard over the summer to lobby for a return to all red. The white jumper looks like Sydney, at least add more blue. Welcome to the off-season

  36. Agree - all it does it show how stupid the AFL is for allowing Richmond to adopt a clash jumper that fails to satisfy the SOLE purpose of requiring teams to wear clash jumpers: avoiding a clash! If they actually required Richmond to design a clash jumper that doesn't clash with other teams then this wouldn't happen. But that's the AFL - they think it's fine for a team that wears yellow and black to have a clash jumper of yellow and black.

  37. Amazing the commentators said nothing in it. Low impact yet he doesn't get insufficient force. Should have broken Swallow's nose and he would have got off. Rutten elbowed a player to the head running past and commentators said he was in real trouble. Result he gets off. Am pretty sure if Dawes still played in black and white jumper he would have got off. MRP is one big joke.

  40. The good part about chip going. We get to write long threads about him and his new club when he plays bad and the club fails. We get to throw snott at each other when he plays good and his new team is on top of ladder. Win Win for board, and it gives stuie so much space to write "i told you so" or "i knew we was right to get rid of him'

  41. When PR said he was the best player on our list,I didnt think PR would let him walk without exhausting all avenues to make sure we were still in the deal.Win Win for us and for mitchy boy if he is well now. After suffering severe{is there any other kind}of depression of recent,i can tell you the good days do appear sooner than what you imagine and life starts to get better quickly{or as normal as can be}occasional setbacks, but yes mitch may see some light .Memory reminds you of the darkness and mitch will make a decision when hes ready. But it does sound good for all of us.

  43. BB I think that is too simplistic an analysis.Had we have lost every game by 1 point and finished 18th, what would you conclude as to improvement? If you then had Hogan and Clark available in every game what would have been the likely result? Clearly they are worth 2 points in every game. Yes we are 17th but we were competitive in a lot more of our games. We led into the final quarter in 10 games this year. That is 10 chances at least of winning at 3/4 time. That is far improved from last year being at least 10 goals down at the same stage. IMO we have clearly improved but obviously we have a fair way to go. The off season will have a major impact on 2015.

  44. same goes for Hawks though who they play in the Qualifying. They got Lake from another feeder club in the doggies. to me Lake playing on Hawkins is the critical difference to stop the cats beating them on Friday. any doubts and go back to their first game this year when Hawkins obliterated them. The AFL are all for equalisation and unbelievably introduce this free agency, which everyone could see would create a greater divide. it is truly sickening. Watching Geelong, Hawthorn and Sydney top up like gorging fat Italian Opera singers, picking pieces of pie to add to their main course, is enough to make me puke into my mouth.

  45. Funny, I heard a Norf supporter on the radio saying we had to be the worst supporters in the AFL because we don't go to games. If they had the last 8 years in the comp we have they would not survive. ...and they can stick that Docklands ground right up their a.......I'm wouldn't send my worst enemy to that s...heap of a ground. 47. Rory Sloanes 100th was celebrated big time at Upwey Tecoma today. Hardwick and Rory are the only 2 100 game AFL players from there. It would be a big surprise to Rorys mum and dad who just moved to Glenelg beach if he came "home". But I expect this wish to raise its head every year, just shows how good he is and what a F### wan%er big Barry Prendergast was when he promised the family Rory was going to MFC with a late 1st round pick. he took 3 stooges and blatantly lied to a close knit family who were shocked at the time.
