As had been reported previously on site - the Rev is battling the terminal illness known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Those diagnosed have a life expectancy of 2-4 years. The Rev's health is getting worse and he's done an interview with Tim Watson that will be on Channel 7 Monday night - apparently very moving. Just want to pass on my best to the great man who in retrospect did an unbelievable job at the Dee's. If only we could go back to the days of complaining about making finals every second year!!9 points

"I think it is just terrible and disgusting how everyone has treated Lance Armstrong, especially after what he achieved, winning seven Tour de France races while on drugs. When I was on drugs, I couldn't even find my bike." - Willie Nelson6 points

Murphy is one of the top echelon players in the league. McKenzie is a plodder lucky to still be paid as a professional athlete.6 points

First, spoke to Jesse Hogan, don't know what they have been doing, but he is in magnificent shape, complimented him and he said he was feeling great, looking forward to playing, expects to play about 80 minutes. Spoke to Dom Tyson, despite everything, said he had really enjoyed his first year with Melbourne, looking forward to getting a decent pre season under his belt, said he, Riley, Toumpas, Viney and Salem will really benefit if they can all get through it together. Asked him how he gets free at stoppages to kick those goals he gets, he thinks because they don't pay him enough respect at the moment and that Nathan Jones, who he couldn't speak highly enough of, gets all the attentiion, doesn't expect it to last if he keeps kicking them. Spoke to one of the forgotten ones in Jayden Hunt, he said he has been really disappointed to be crippled with an injury in his first year, when you need to make an impression, has got him down a bit, but the coaches and fitness staff are constantly in his ear encouraging and making sure he just knuckles down and does what he has to do, looking at being cherry ripe for pre season....similar injury to Jesse Hogan, but more impact coz Jayden is a slighter build at the moment. Spoke to Nev (of course) looking forward to the next two years, in Nev speak "play my role, keep it simple and do the job", thinks he will line up on Devon Smith this week, another good challenge as he put it, already has game face on. Spoke to Christian Salem about what was the real reason for Tony Pulis' sudden departure from Crystal Palace two days out from the start of the Premier League season. And Brad Miller was taking part in the some of the kicking drills this morning, dropped a sitter right in front of me, I had a good natured go at him, told me the ball was wet (which it was) and let me live. As per the norm, any questions, feel free.4 points

Also do you really think the only reason McKenzie was dropped was because he missed one goal, even if it was a howler? Don't be daft.4 points

One notable in: my four year old son, Claude, will be attending his first Demons game on Sunday. I'm a first generation (off the boat!) Dees supporter, so this is a special moment for me - the start of a Demon dynasty.4 points

Hats off to you Saty - we're at the ar*e-end of another crap season and you're still going to training and providing reports in mid-August, when most of the rest of us have switched off. That's nothing if not dedication.3 points

I'm still not writing Essendon off yet. Leaving aside the drugs issues (am I starting to sound like Robbo?), how good is Jobe Watson? Playing his first game after two months' lay off and had 19 touches up to half time. That it awesome.2 points

Cameron in a heartbeat. Let's not confuse him with a stay at home forward.2 points

Same as it ever was, it is the midfield, stupid. Back line looks good, forward line looks OK if Hogan can play. But we've only got 4 AFL class mids N.Jones, Vince, Tyson and Viney (apologies to Daniel Cross) when we need at least 10. Some more may come out of Trengove, Toumpas, Salem, Barry and JKH. Last year Tyson, Salem and Vince - about half our midfield - for 2, 20 and Sylvia (23) was an excellent return. This year it would be great to repeat that and if Frawley goes we'll have an even stronger hand - 3, 4 and 23ish. I didn't anticipate last year's deal, I expect we'll be working hard on something similar.2 points

Both. Talent in the top 10 doesn't look as good as last year, but the pool probably has greater overall depth than last year.2 points

Pedo has done more this year than Fitzy has done in total. One has turned around and had a solid year, the other has turned around and largely gone unsighted during 2014.2 points

Demonland could go into meltdown if we had two players on our list picked before Wines.2 points

You do realise that "Demonland" isn't one person but a multitude of supporters. Each person is able to form their own opinions and have a discussion if you don't want to talk about the topic then fuclk off.2 points

What are the chances Bartlett was just trying to say he wanted us to be a super successful, rich club? Good luck with that, but I think the whole Yankees thing was blown out of proportion from what was probably an off-hand comment in the middle of an article. At the moment we're embracing the Cubs and just being depressingly bad for a long time.2 points

The US draft method works for me. Last place no guaranttee of first pick. But the bottom sides have a greater chance to get first pick. ie Last place gets 18 lottery ticket to first pick in the draft, 17th get 17 tickets through to 1 st place 1 ticket, so the top team could get the first pick, their odds would be 170:1 It is far more likely that the bottom teams get the first pick, but no guarantee. No point to tanking.2 points

Yeah it wasn't his previous poor games, lack of skill, lack of disposals, it was that one missed goal...1 point

I hope you've been on the sauce tonight mate, cos McKenzie wouldn't carry Marc Murphy's bags. And it wasn't a knee jerk reaction given McKenzie has never been able to kick, and also missed a set shot against Port the week before from 30m out which might have been the difference there too.1 point

He's no where near Tyson as a player, Tyson always showed something. O'Rourke hasn't to date so no he is not worth a first round pick even if we get one back.1 point

They absolutely do have an interest to protect the state of the game right up until the time they are about to get whacked with a very big stick - then self interest kicks in.1 point

Glad you also noticed RL. Dermie is the main culprit. Someone taught him to speak slowly in order to sound measured and intelligent but, to a discerning listener, he is a condescending [censored]!!1 point

I moved out of that line of work months ago.I recall vividly a time when you were willing to be the John Voight character to my Dustin Hoffman. You country lads come to town with stars in your eyes in your tasseled suede suits but you never last long in the cut and thrust of the big smoke.1 point

I too am having a hard time trying to emotionally stabilise a varied and idiosyncratic bunch if dispirited men and keep them focused on football. Unfortunately I know how Roosy feels and I believe chook does also.luckily we have frequent updates on your bodily fluid output and intake to provide is with a thought so repulsive that we feel like talking footy again.1 point

So you need more football threads?Currently we have 1 who do we delist this year 2 who to recruit this year 3 our list is crap 4 today's game 5 who do we delist this year 6 who do we recruit this year 7 our li.... Hmm seems to me most of the subjects are well covered.1 point

Nuts and nanas- FMDrunk. The symbolism is overtly homoerotic. The things you crave are disturbing me. We have enough unrequited love around here for a book of poetry.1 point

Quite correct Gallus ! There are too many posters who mindlessly derail sensible threads. I do my best to maintain some order but sometimes I am overwhelmed by the likes of OD's misery, dc's innuendo and Moonshadow's bizarre sexual suggestiveness, that it all becomes too much. Anyway onto important matters. I am going from strength to strength at the gym , however, I have now been instructed to carry a towel to mop up the pools of bodily fluids that I leave in my wake.1 point

Interesting point, Mike. We know Dawes certainly won't be playing ruck. If we got Wright, that'd free up Hogan. Still, that midfield. We must strengthen the midfield. Early picks are the key to solve that problem.1 point

Gotta pick up players who can use the ball. We need to nail our late picks too - too often of late they've been good battlers but lacking in required ability to use the ball. The general feeling seems to be that this draft is a bit light on, in terms of quality of players and depth?1 point

I reckon we need some big signings, we have huge cap room, and trade assets1 point
