  1. Three maybe four more keepers today. Barry, Gawn and Michie. Riley will be ok too.

  2. Give Watts a break, he is running all over the place trying to give leads and get into the game, only 6 players had more possessions than him, only 6 players had more contested possessions than him. Top for delivery efficiency. What does he have to do before people give him a break.

  3. I will say this, despite the margin, this is a much better performance than last week's disgrace. We are still hopeless offensively, but at least we played hard and tackled to hurt. As a team we are about 20% talent 80% trying hard and failing. Better than last year's 1% talent (Jones) and 99% garbage. Also we halved the losing margin from last year. Hooray.

  4. This is ome of the most disgusting things I've ever seen posted here. You're an absolute f*ckwit.

  5. Kicked more than 4 goals. More than double that actually. Unlucky Tony Shaw. More than halved the howlers from last week and cracked in hard all day. No easy possessions. Pretty much all even in the second half which against a team like Hawthorn is a great effort. As a contrast, the Bulldogs got blown away in their second half. Far too many easy goals leaked out the back which I'm sure Roos will address. Composure in the forward half is still an issue. Gawn the obvious highlight. Terrific game from the big fella who is going to be a big part of the next successful Melbourne side, which hopefully is only a few years away. Overall, a lot more to be happy about than last week.

  6. Going with a hawthorn mate. What I really don't want to see is us being physically intimidated. The hawks and cats have done this to us for years and essendon went a long way to winning that grand final with the same approach (more blatant thuggery, actually). I never want to see a Melbourne player smashed like Pedo was without 17 men running to fly the flag.

  7. If you think it matters that Watts was caught grinning for a second after the game, you're a dead set goose. It does not mean he is unprofessional. It does not mean he is not disappointed, or happy with the result. Just because you want to kick the cat when we lose does not mean everyone must. It was an instant caught on camera. I'd bet money a player on every losing side, every week, has a laugh with the opposition at the end.

  8. No, I wont give him a break any longer. Yes he does what you say but ... he will never win a hardball, he will rarely tackle with aggression, he will not inspire, he will not turn a game. He is a receiver. We need blokes who can take the game by the scruff of the neck. His ability is terrific but it is wasted.

  9. Jack Watts is 1/22 of this team should we not talk about him? Rohan Bail was stiff to be rested. Paul Roos must be pretty sure he's staying on next year. Neville Jetta deserves the Bluey. Nathan Jones will win his third B+F in a row. Mark Jamar and Max Gawn were awesome. Chris Dawes is in really bad form. Dom Tyson is a very good pickup. Jack Viney, Daniel Cross and Bernie Vince have made our midfield a lot better. Matt Jones is delist material. I wish Tom McDonald could kick. James Frawley is our best forward...and he's not even a forward. Dom Barry could be something.

  10. Strange that there is so little love for Jack, He had 17 disposals at 94.1% efficiency, how many others got close, frawley had 14 disposals at 50%, Kent had 9 disposals, etc... Jack was far from the worst, he is an outside player but everyone is cursing him for not winning every contest. A few weeks ago everyone was cursing Maxy for his game at full forward, when the fault was not max's it was the way we were delivering it, today we delivered it to his strength, i.e. up high. Jack needs to be used on the outside to get be best out of him.

  11. And Nev Jetta was outstanding. Easily the best defender on the ground and comfortably in the top 5 players on the ground too.

  12. Commentary on fox was condescending and putrid. Fat ed and Derm were the main ones with huddo and Johnson ok. Geez I can't wait till will turn our performance around.

  15. Pure distraction s-t-i-n-g-a. Any time you see Robbo, Chip Le Grand or a lawyer and academic called Martin Hardie associated with anything to do with this issue, you need to take it with a huge grain of salt. They are not neutral parties. In this case, Robbo concludes that the asking by Gillon McLachlan of the question as to whether the offending club was Essendon, automatically means that the AFL knew it to be so and therefore the inference follows that Demetriou warned the Bombers to self-confess etc. and did so in breach of the law. My take is that the asking of the question confirms the AFL had suspicions but nothing more at the time and this line will, like the many other distractions in Essendon's game of smoke and mirrors get them nowhere. The main issue in the case that begins on Monday is whether the joint investigation by the AFL and ASADA was lawful and if it wasn't, how much of the evidence gathered by the investigation (remembering that only part was conducted jointly) can be used in the ongoing case against the players. The case against the players is currently stalled at the show cause stage because of undertakings given by ASADA to the Federal Court at one of the early directions hearings. What the AFL knew or did not know is in my view a peripheral side issue but Robinson, by his latest effort, has shown himself to be a sloppy journo, and despite the lovable personna that he otherwise adopts on the AFL360 programme, he and his sidekick have lost me completely because their credibility is in tatters. In my spare time over the weekend (half time in today's game?) I will try to catch up on the submissions in the case to see if there's anything new or interesting to report.

  20. Watts again. I watched him just drift down to the defensive fifty, trips over and Smith runs into an open goal.

  22. Trolls night out? Hawks are top of the table or thereabouts, we found a few who can play against contenders , we've got 1/2 a dozen NQR we know about and a couple who have had plenty of chances were sorted from previous week. Prefer it to last week thanks.

  23. We did quite well today. We would have beaten at least a half a dozen other sides on the G today but the Hawks are on another stratosphere in terms of quality. There were some obvious differences between the 2 sides but our lack of a dominant forward was telling whereas for them, they've got Roughhead. Put 2 decent KPF's in our team and we would have gotten a lot closer. Hogan & ? are needed if we're going to get to 10-12 wins. Dawes is an ideal 3rd forward. If Frawley stays, we might have to make do with Hogan, Dawes & Frawley as our 3 KPF's. We also need 2 or 3 more quality mids and some better distributors off half back. Michie & Barry showed a bit of promise today which was pleasing. Riley also did ok with limited game time and big Max had a very good game. We bring that sort of game next week and we'll win and ... we can also beat the Eagles & North in the last 2 games if we play with that same level of intensity. Our skills were much better today but we were up against an extremely well drilled, quality outfit. We were far from disgraced.

  24. His disposal efficiency is so high because he is a very good kick and often handpasses when under the slightest amount of pressure. That means he rarely turns it over, but he rarely takes any risks with his disposal. And it's what he does when he DOESN'T have the ball that's got me in such a tizzy. I reckon Hawthorn kicked three goals in the first quarter alone as a direct result of Jack's poor defensive pressure. He is a vital part of our zone defence when he plays in our d50, but he doesn't have the urgency required to apply physical pressure to his nearest opponent when he has to, which means that whoever it is (whether it be Isaac Smith or anyone else) has ample time to dice us up.

  25. What did do you expect out of today? Honestly? Today could've been much, much, much uglier than it was. You need to be realistic. We are not in Hawthorn's league right now. We're on a path forward, we just lack the cattle.

  26. Go right ahead and talk about him, but posting a picture of him smiling with Shiels after a game as they have a chat, which most players do, only brings the Watts bashers out of the woodwork to spend there time going on and on about the usual and clogging up the thread.

  28. Watts shows no heart, he had a bigger smile on his face than the hawthorn players. After a performance like that just shake hands and get your gutless butt down the tunnel. Talent isn't the issue it's will and mongrel. the skill errors are coming about because they are putting each other under pressure by not doing the 1%er's and working for each other. The job of many being done by only a few!

  29. Nobody knows who he is (nor do they care because he plays for Melbourne), but he is one of the biggest success stories in the AFL this year. From a re-listed rookie to the best small defender in the league is an almost unbelievable accomplishment.

  30. Nobody even tried to run with Hodge. Garland was right to be filthy. Our defenders have it tough.

  34. Matt Jones turnover goal. Any half-decent AFL player should be able to bullet the ball 20 metres under no pressure. Players like Matt Jones who neet to sky it to get that distance have no place in our side.

  35. And that's why Matt Jones shouldn't be in the side. Crap like that kills us. Absolutely kills us.

  45. You can mismanage like crazy but with enough luck it may not be devastating. You can mismanage a bit and with some bad luck as well you can go down the gurgler. It's clear to me that we mismanaged and had some extraordinary bad luck as well. To put it all on either factor is foolish.

  47. carltanks penalty should be to keep him. or re draft him.

  48. Correct. We could have rookied him, if only just to have a look at him, the year before he was taken by Sydney. Nev's mother's comment that Lewis was as good as her son, should have been enough for BP to at least go and speak to his coaches and view any film of him playing, or talk to players who had played with and against him. There was nothing to lose and we had been given a heads up, even if it was only from a player's mum. That is called doing your job, rather than acting like the arrogant [censored] i found him to be in my discussions with him.I could also add incompetent as well when one looks at his results.
