  1. This one was never in doubt in my mind, but should keep a few of the panic merchants around here quiet for a bit. Without meaning to give a backhanded compliment, this is the first time that Dunn re-signing has given me that *yessssssss* feeling. He definitely took the scenic route, but has developed in to a strong, reliable and important player. His promotion to the leadership group shows where the club thinks he is at, and I couldn't be more pleased. Well done.

  4. I heard about a month ago that Frawley has agreed to sign on and they are working out the details, but essentially the club is keeping the news close to hand until they think the supporters need a lift. Just something I heard around the traps.

  6. Really tired of the mind games from someone who was nominated a leader of the club. Setting a terrible example now that we're making such tangible progress under Roos, to constantly say he's waiting to see what progress we make before he recommits. The progress is bloody obvious, so are you part of this or not Chip? What lousy leadership. No one player is bigger than the club but he certainly seems to think so. Crossy is getting paid less and is my idea of a true leader for our young players.

  9. What i can remember: Agrees with Roosy about Zoneball Believes its starting to come together Wants to continue that growth and development Seeing consistent performances Plenty of areas to improve. Few questions asked: Roosy's influence? His response included - Way he has been able to galvanise everyone. Everyone looked up to him. Brings everyone together (coaches and players). Team is first etc. Focus on defence? how do you explain it (looking magnificent)? Not a fitness issue in the past, Early rounds turned the ball over more often than not so defending more than should be, other teams more efficient with ball use (retention - geelong etc). Excited about monday? exciting for US, another great challenge for us with where we are at as a group. We are really clear on where we are heading.. Looking forward to it. Dunn turnaround (since moustache)? Very happy he signed on. Cam pederson? Simplified the whole thing, went back to basics, doing the real team thing.. Finished on: Still got a long way to go but its really exciting!

  10. Unsure what point you're trying to make. Presumably he signed so soon because he wanted to. Not all players want to 'hold out' for the best possible deal; some players land on a deal they're happy with early in the piece and just want to get it out of the way so they can concentrate on footy.

  12. Honestly, I'm well over this Frawley situation. The guy is a pea heart and has very little going on up in that nogan of his. He is clearly being swayed by the opportunity of a big pay packet and being thrust in the limelight as a KP 'star'. His attitude is appalling for a player of his experience and age at our club. Take a leaf out of Dunn's book fcs James. If you want to show your commitment and your 'loyalty' as a player, what better opportunity than to do it at this stage of the season?! If you want to wait, stop banging on about how you love the club and are a loyal country boy. It's substanceless. He is really irking me now. It means his mind is not on the job. He is aware now that his form as an individual is going to help determine a pricetag. If he goes, I don't care because I'm hopeful we'll receive more than enough compo to cover him down the track. But I will vomit if I keep reading this automated dribble about his supposed love for the club and loyalty as a player.. Dunn has just set a great example of someone who genuinely cares about the club and his contribution to help build it. It makes Frawley look like a fool for saying what he keeps saying..

  13. Dunn was one of few players who improved during 2012 and 2013. Full credit to him for stepping up during our darkest years and hopefully becomes a 200+ gamer.

  14. I don't think we should turn this thread in to a pissing contest about who backed Dunn last year and who didn't. I've deleted all the posts that attempted to turn this in to such a contest and will delete future posts as such as well.

  15. One more thing: if he manages to hold his form and fitness - and I see no reason why he couldn't given his age and the fact that he's hardly ever been injured - this contract should see him well on the way to 200 MFC games. It feels like an awfully long time since we've had one of those.

  16. it was a bleak and foreboding morning down at Gosch's...... well actually it was quite sunny ( of sorts ) in the period I and another stalwart of these forums visited training today. I wont be submitting one on those wonderous reports as to be frank I cant understand how anyone does. I just cant see everything that goes on...lol Some things I ( we) did take note of. No order and no ranking. Didnt see Hogan anywhere. Dawes seems very VERY keen. Salem is silky. We struck GOLD here Im still seeing a bit of wayward kicking and unforced inaccuracies at training. Im also seeing a lot, LOT, of spark in players.. Some players frustrate with ability at training and not reproducing under pressure. team trains vastly differently... i'LL hand over to anyone else who went and fill in as I remember cheers

  17. I am told the club views the possibility of a Clark comeback as a genuine possibility rather than a long shot. Say 50/50 or better. After all you would not go on the footy show and say its possible unless you were seriously considering it.
    4 points
  18. Fact: Clark will keep possibility of comeback as "ON" in tonight's interview. This has become compelling viewing for all Dee supporters.

  19. And it tells me what it always tells me . Chip has never been good in front of the camera. Look at any Frawley interview and it is full of umms and ahhs and stutters. The man has never been a natural media performer. Doesn't mean he is staying or going - I just wouldn't read into his body language at all.

  20. The whole of Frawley leaving is based on going to a club for success? Personally, i'd rather be at Melbourne than Stkilda.

  21. This is one of those times when Dunn has the persistence of others, aswell as himself, to thank for his success. 2005 was his first year and 2013 was the first time he turned into a solid pro who cemented himself in the best 22. I am glad we don't have to worry about a very capable third tall down back with excellent skills for three years. Well done!

  22. Barrett is just the football equivalent of a celebrity chaser who pumps themselves up a 'newsbreaker'. I don't know why everyone here feels such angst about him. The Viney ruling was important in helping to set a precedent and a new agenda for deliberate bumps vis-a-vis unavoidable collisions. So I don't have an issue with him talking about 'pre- and post-Viney'. The fact that Viney plays for Melbourne is irrelevant to that agenda. (I think it would be good if Melbourne supporters could buy out of the victimisation mentality and leave that to Collingwood supporters, who are the masters of it). The major problem with Barrett's position is that he thinks the Viney ruling was incorrect purely because it involved severe injury, and that it subsequently created uncertainty in the minds of players. But what has really created that uncertainty is not the Viney outcome, but previous rulings by the MRP that too harshly dealt with unavoidable collisions resulting in injury. If anything, the Viney decision has helped clear it up, not further confuse it. The Viney decision was correct though, because it ruled that unavoidable incidents on the field, made in the heat and intensity of the game, ought not be punished. Barrett's position is like suggesting there's no difference between an accident, manslaughter and murder, when we all know that the issue is intent.

  23. Fantastic news. Please DL he has to go on the banner now! On a related note one of the equalization measures announced by the AFL is that clubs who under spend on their draft cap over a period of time (as we have) - to a maximum of 2 years - can bank this and use this to spend over the cap over a corresponding number of years. What is great for the dees is that it is retrospective so under-spend in 2013 and 2014 can be spent as overspend (so to speak) in 2015 and 16. At a time where we are likely to be much more attractive to free agents than the last few years that puts us in a great position to both ensure we can pay our current senior players well and be competitive in the market (eg with Frawley) but more importantly have the coin to attract some qulaity talent (without upsetting the apple cart and annoying current players who might otherwise not like some blown in getting a big salary).

  24. Just an observation. Those thinking he is OVER his depression dont understand depression. He may well be in a better place but a dpression SO bad to cause one to retreat away from a loved and chosen career is NOT fixed in a few weeks.

  25. Manger got shafted. He was brought in to be an inside ball-winner with heaps of grunt. He came into the side and did that job exactly as advertised, and for two or three rounds he was notching up 30-odd possessions playing in the guts. Then for some reason they decided to start shifting him into other roles. We got him to win inside ball, so let's try him as a tagger. How about as a half-forward? Nope, obviously can't play so we'll drop him. He would have been fine if they'd just left him in the middle to do what he does best.

  26. i hope we see many more years of salem and toumpas running in tandem along the wing, like we did against port in the alice - that ground is essentially the dimensions of the mcg.

  27. On SEN yesterday Scott Lucas was saying Dunn is number 37 for average metres gained per match, with about 430m per. I think they said 69% retention rate. Not bad. On a side note... Just having a look at an AFL/Champion Data metres gained graphic from last year. At that time Trav Johnstone held the record for 3rd most metres gained in a match with 999m. Guess which match? The Kreuzer Cup.

  29. What an amazing turn around in the past two years. I think most of us had him out of the club two years ago and now he is one of our most reliable better players. The move back and Jade Rawlings have saved this guy and thank goodness they did.

  32. This is awesome news, great to not only hear the words coming from the playing group about positive future, 'I bleed red and blue' and all the other typical cliches, but fantastic to actually see the actions put into practice. Heres hoping that this is the first of many re signings to come throughout the year.

  34. id like to say that its ridiculous that people would think this way... But in reality, your probably spot on...Its a shame really... Coaching isnt a playing role... so logically anyone with the right knowledge, should be able to perform this role... Id say a female Coach would add a whole other dimension to coaching, kind of like the difference between a father and a mother... My father was a softly spoken guy, I could get away with a lot more when he was in charge... But jeez... My mother farout!! there was no breaking rules when she was around (the Wooden Spoon)...lol.. So as far as respect from the players, id say the right women would be able to command it... Women make up a little over 50% of our population... surely out of that, there are some women who know the game well enough to match it with the blokes... Who knows? The greatest AFL coach ever, might be a women... I can see it really working well, if we can all get passed the silly sexist embarassing primitive notions that a coach of men must be a man... If anything.... Id say mothering figure would command more respect from the players... Just because men have bully there way into the highest positions, over many generations (leadership roles) doesn't mean they are the best for those roles...

  36. I totally get what your trying to say and agree with you about the first, and I often wanted to swear when speaking about a subject I feel so passionately (and I agree G-A-Y is not a swear work per se, context is everything in that case), but to say 'woefully moderated' is unfair. I reckon it's a painful job moderating here, and sadly the lowest common denominators (and I'm NOT referring to you) on this site mean we have a swear filter turned upto '11'. Cut em some slack, when I read PRE or Bomberblitz (or even 'ology when I could be bothered) etc I am less than impressed at the mods and feel DL holds up ok. I would prefer more invective but get why its filtered - context is much harder to filter for.

  40. We would only need to use pick 4 if the teams in front of us (1-3 on selections) made a bid on him. His stocks may be rising, but that far? I'd be surprised. What we have to hope for is that a) no-one bids in the first round after us, but then also, b) no-one bids in the first few picks before us in the second round. In which case, we'd get him as a third-rounder. Nice.

  42. Boy oh boy wowee. This is the 'not sexist' guy, apparently. The champion of respect. "Women behave in the following way and it shows how they don't know what they are doing" It's nice when the prejudiced dummies provide the plain, unambiguous evidence that it is ok to write off their opinions.

  43. I'm sorely tempted to close this thread and all other Barrett threads so we don't have to repeat ourselves every time he farts. We'll keep one thread open and if you really need to vent you can use the search and risk the ire of the rest of the board for digging him up from the bowels of Demonland.

  45. MODS: The letters "g", "a", and "y" in a row should NOT be censored on this site. That is not a derogatory term. The fact that you're censoring f-l-o-g is rather laughable, but censoring the word "g-a-y" is DOWNRIGHT OFFENSIVE. I am not kidding. That is totally unacceptable.

  46. I think it has to be recognised that we may well be out of business had the AFL not stepped in and FORCED us to get our S together, they way they did this was by engineering the PJ-Roos appointments. It was a pretty extraordinary ting for them to do really. I wonder if billy2803 is correct in saying that if we hadn't gone through the tanking saga we wouldn't have hit the absolute rock bottom that we did, and maybe those extraordinary actions by the AFL would never have occurred. I have certainly learnty in life that bad things happen (you lose your job, a woman leaves you, whatever) and it sucks like hell but sometimes, years down the track you realise that it was something you needed to happen and worked out best for you. still doesn't excuse the actions of OTC and McLean, there used to be a time when the footy world (media, former players etc) would act as a unit and support each other, for the gneral good of the game, not apply the blowtorch like those p-icks did

  47. When I saw Dawes, Toumpas and Salem playing Richmond each with a similar beard and swarthy skin colour, I thought we'd invested in a set of life-size babushka dolls, Dawes being the outer doll, Toumpas the mid and Salem the one on the inside.

  49. We did tank and we copped the fine and flack. MAde us grow up as a club and reminded us that integrity and culture are a valuable commodity, hard to create and easy to lose. That others teams did it and weren't penalised is irrelevant to us. They will suffer as a result of not having learnt that lesson, its not our concern.

  50. The guy is acquitting himself pretty well already physically as well as mentally and with sound judgement and poise, in a modest manner without appearing to be getting ahead of himself in any manner. What little I have been able to see of him excites me more than any of our first year players in my memory. The pick up, quick thinking and pass to the running Bail was awesome; but I think even more impressive was the teaming with Toumpas, laying the solid shepherd (very un-Melbourne like pre 2014 - the Port guy actually fell over, when have we seen that from a MFC shepherd?) then running on to receive the beautifully weighted and timed pass from Jimmy (even more un-Melbourne like pre 2014). The underlined bits are totally new to this year's team. I remain stunned by the change.
