  1. Between this and the guy who reckons Cameron Ling is the worst option as coach because he's too ugly, Demonland is firing on all cylinders at the moment.

  2. The heart of the Demons I don't think many could express it quite like Flanigan can.

  3. Braved the Antarctic conditions Kent left early, calf tightness (I asked)...not confident. Spencer very light session after no show Wednesday, assured me he is fine. Terlich will play. Jamar said a very interesting thing, asked him when he would be available, answer "when I can get around the ground, you get found out". No shows Hogan, Michie, Barry, Tapscott. JKH switched on, one of the last off the ground, just wants to play. Nev Jetta pleased to be upgraded, just wants to bring his good form to AFL if he gets a chance. Asked Chip for 3 goals, big smile, so playing with confidence. And a perfect end to the session Cross and McKenzie last off the ground, after practicing picking up a wet ball off the ground for 15 minutes, asked both in their opinion whether G Ablett Jnr was best player of last 10 years, both said yes, Cross said 6 or 7 and Judd before that, I asked apart from the skill what was so good about him. Cross "his core strength, and he is speedy, you can't catch the little bastard" ... loved it, so not competitive at all.

  4. I was watching the replay today (great having a public holiday the week after a Melbourne win). A few things I noticed: - Viney was super exciting in patches. However he really does struggle to cover the ground consistently. He is fast, agile and strong, but he needs to work on his tank. We shouldn't be expecting him to be a top player yet, but I suspect we'll continue to see cameos for a while. - Georgiou gets it. He has a really high intensity attitude to his defensive work. Not just spoiling, or winning the ball in his area, but running super hard to cut off options downfield or chasing down a kicker to make the disposal slightly more difficult. Impressive. - Kent will be a decent out for us. He has pace, but he's also much better and cleaner in traffic than I gave him credit for. - Watts is effortlessly damaging. He creates a lot of scoring opportunities, but he makes them look routine. His pace and work in traffic is so effortless that it looks normal. It isn't. - Matt Jones' pace was important at times. He's not the most talented player, but his combination of pace and endurance makes him important.

  5. Disappointed that Kent's injured. I've been really enjoying watching his progression over the last two seasons.

  6. Pick in the 50s. He is a success for a pick that late. And, what is wrong with the bloke getting a chance under the new coach?

  7. For those who wonder why Nev was rookied then elevated, he was in Casey's best 6 for the last 6 games of last season, including the finals they played in, BOG in first practice game for Casey this year then in best in 2nd and in the best 6 for the first 2 games of this year, so showing some form, spoke to him at training, feeling really good and super fit, been enjoying playing down at Casey...absolutely rapt he did the full pre season for the first time....able to finally show what he can do without worrying about coming back from injury or being underdone, body also more mature

  8. Saints(coach walked out, coach sacked, stars leave club, at least 3 first year players) defeat BombersGWS(stuffed full of third year players and a couple of seniors with varying experience) defeat swans(stuffed full of premiership stars, they had a massive injury list last year and still finished top 4). No one picked those upsets except some woman in an office tipping comp that knows nothing about football. Mindset is a powerful thing. Saints have lions next week and could be 4&2. Shouldn't the Saints be tanking to land a tall forward to replace St. Nick? How many wins can these teams expect ? When North win it's the Shinboner spirit and when they loose it's.......? 18 v 18 , have a crack.

  10. This thread is just a vehicle for you to call posters losers... We should just worry about the next game. They are beginning to build the mentality that they can win any game they play in, I hope they keep their focus on that.

  12. I've never understood what he offered on the field, thought to delist him at the end of the year was a great idea. Was mystified to see him get rookied as I thought it would be better to rookie a duck as if would offer as much. Having said that, I will watch with interest to see if Roos can get something out of him. Would love to be proven wrong, but think I'll sit there tomorrow saying "why?"

  13. Have you imagined for a second that said details, in fact the anecdote entire and with much greater detail, has been made public, and to a much greater readership (actually listenership) than that on here, by the footballer at the heart of the anecdote? (No names!) Do you know the person, and how he feels about the anecdote, and it's public reiteration? Unless you can answer yes to these questions, your objections, your spectacularly condescending and preachy posting of Vic Health Records Act, are an exercise in pure grandstanding at the very least. Your imputations of offence and unprofessionalism could not be more misplaced.

  14. The problem with the OP (amongst others, anyway) is that he seems to believe that if you don't think we can make the finals, you don't think anything productive can come out of the season. The unfortunate reality of where this club has been of late is that we are able to draw significant progress out of a season that finishes with around 6 wins. That's just how things are right now.

  15. For what it's worth it's not the content of your posts in this thread that I object to, it's the timing. We all know Nev's limited, but surely he's just as worthy of some of the benefit of the doubt we've afforded all the other players who have been on our list for the last few years.

  16. He currently leads the club with disposal efficiency with 85%. Looks like an Andrew Dunkley clone, awkward but very effective!

  17. Brilliant read. I really enjoyed reading the quotes about Jurrah, we often forget just how much of a loss he's been and it's great to see Jones acknowledge that.

  19. Yes DC poor form I admit but SWMBO was with me and she gave me an ultimatum, if we stayed any longer I would have to go with her tomorrow to watch the Hawks train out at Waverley Park! That's when I really got on my bike!

  20. That is not really true. He has a bit of sh-t in him, which few do. His form is very good at the moment. He is versatile. He will do the team things, tackle, smother, etc. While far from a star, how many do we actually have? If he plays better than the bloke he replaces, that is a positive.

  21. In the majority of sports I follow, I find it difficult to choose my favourite commentator. Various characters are masters of subtlety, colour, variance of tone and atmosphere creators. When it comes to AFL commercial commentators, it is a battle to select the worst performers as there is slim-no point in scraping for a favourite. The fox line-up of Ricciuto, Russell and Healy is akin to rubbing sandpaper over your open eyes whilst getting kicked in the guts by an ex-wife singing Celine Dion off key. Ten's shambolic, sycophantic concoction of B-graders in Richardson and Darcy are worse than 8 hours of dorothy-dixers delivered by Pauly Shore. Their sucking up to that hyperbolic, moustached mug is painstaking - and don't even get me started on his hyperbolic ramblings. There is the crux of my problem with AFL commentary. Each of them describe what is painfully obvious to witness with your own eyes and their dull skills are only exemplified when you have to put up with them in any pub foolish enough to turn the footy up. The hyperbole that they espouse truly ruins my enjoyment of any spectacle. Adelaide v Port Adelaide's commentary has produced numerous examples of this and it's only in its infancy! Russell's description of a 48 metre pass inside 50 as a "monumental entry" finally blew my gasket. I invite you to use this thread as a sounding board - punching bag - for the relieving of tension generated from listening to these "professionals." First entry: "The fast break is on. There's no one down field to kick to so he'll need to U-turn and wait for support" - G. Healy

  22. Were you just taking a guess at that list of players that you posted?Seriously, it really shows how little thought you put into your post. And I'd argue a few of the names you put in that list are extremely limited players and are in fact one of the very reasons why we are where we are as a club! So, quite the opposite of what you were saying.

  23. Exactly, draft picks didn't work out like we had hoped. Why not bust your gut all year, enter every game with a "we can win mindset" as the Saints and Port have and as Roos is trying to install into us. After the Saints win tonight we are officially out of excuses.

  24. Im sick of this club dismissing immediate success. Too much "negative talk" for my liking. As supporters, we should be pushing for success or at least, determined improvement. No compromise. To aim for 14th position is a frigging joke. Frankly, that's not what I stand for.

  30. Wonna, Clark, Howe Jurrah, Dawes, Hogan Sometimes I dream about this forward line, then wake up andI realise it was just a dream . if only the fickle fingers of fate had been different. We have certainly found unique ways to dismantle at least half of an A grade forward setup, mostly beyond our control.

  31. As is his right and it can be repeated if it's on a public forum. I'm not comfortable with a treating professional giving his take on it though without permission. I think you have made a mistake here 'Webber' , we all do. Lets move on.

  32. I don't know what it means but Collingwood have beaten two previously thought to be decent teams by 38 and 35 points. Both games' margins seemed like they should have been much, much higher. Unsure what to make of it. North's ball use today has been nothing short of disgusting.

  33. Again with the timing.....he just got selected. I don't think he's an AFL standard player. It's an opinion. Critical feedback as I see it. Deal with it.

  36. Is this Casey vs Geelong thread or Wines vs Toumpas again

  37. This is where I would love to see the MFC show some initiative, as well as respect for our aligned team, and broadcast the first half of the Casey game on the big screen at the MCG. I'm not sure if it is done already, but giving score updates on the screen during our game would be great too. Personally, I don't like the "reserves" competition-much prefer the traditional format where every club had its own reserves team that played before the seniors, but as this isn't what's in place, let's work with what we've got, and provide exposure for the Casey team, as well as giving some value to those who attend the MCG.

  38. We've got this! We'll get home by 14 points in a tough, close fought game. Watts will shine brightly, Dawes will continue to marshall the forward 50 and Chip will dominate the GC backmen. Our midfield will have a battle but will come out on top. Hallelujah - our journey out of the wilderness has begun.

  39. This is precisely the problem with people who rate Naitanui. You've cited two one-off instances of performance and tried to extrapolate that into 'he's a great player'. First of all, how is kicking a goal after the siren indicative of anything other than chance? That kick, by the way, should never have happened, with the free kick issue going on just before it. Second of all, yes, that run and goal is a great bit of highly athletic and talented play. But that's all people ever talk about with him, the one-offs and the highlights reel. What about the other 99.99% of the time? He does nothing, that's what. And no one cares, because people get caught up in his highlights reel. His poor performance right now is not purely injury based. He simply isn't that good a player.

  41. Can't say I've been a fan since Bon Scott went to meet his maker... still, I guess they've earned their retiremement... when you think about it, they've probably been working at their job for as long as most people do in the regular workforce (and they've probably been exposed to more potential workplace safety issues than most).

  42. The funny thing about TV football commentary is that 90% of it is pointless. The last thing I need is a moron telling me what I am looking at. Ritchie Benaud is a great commentator. "My mantra is: put your brain into gear and if you can add to what's on the screen then do it, otherwise shut up" Ritchie Benaud If only football commentators could do that.

  43. It just seems that commentators (mainly Channel Seven) are talking about players in general terms as opposed to calling what is actually happening in the game now and analysing that game. It annoys me to no end becuase I don't need Luke Darcy to tell me how he likes the way Nathan Jones goes about it, I want to find something out that I otherwise wouldn't know about the game unless I was there.

  44. I heard Jack Dyer once say "he kicked it laterally across the ground at right angles". You too can commentate like Bruce McAveney: make "question-statements", like "He's a good player isn't he?" or "That was a great kick, wasn't it?", or "He's going to be something, isn't he?" reserve a few special words like "special", "terrific", "caress" or "ooooooooh!" for players like Buddy, Cyril or Stevie J. know the nicknames for the best players so you sound matey with them. have lots of obtuse stats at your fingertips. otherwise just link the play with "ta", like "Viney ta Cross ta Jones ta Dawes"

  45. I wrote to 3aw about 4 times complaining about Der Wayne. Got generic responses. In the end I haven't listened to their show for 5yrs. If he is commentating, I turn it off. Disgraceful, condescending, snide, arrogant tossbag.

  47. I personally hope we engage in serious trades for mature players this year again. We have proven over the last 10 years that we waste early picks by either poor selection, bad culture non existing development or by necessity playing them too early and ruining their potential. There is always the next big thing at the MFC a new messiah each and every year.
