Bit of positive here but isn't it great to see Aussie back in red and blue. And one thing that really surprised me was he actually looks in better shape now then he was in his last year at the club I reckon. Kudos to the MFC on keeping that relationship with Aussie and still accept him as one of our own still. People who say our relationship with indigenous players is crap needs to rethink again.

My conspiracy theory is action jackson is easing the expectations of Roos coaching us with his comments today. A selection committee is formed for the sake of it but Roos is the only man in the hunt. Essendrug did the same thing before Hird was finally announced as their pharmacist/coach. Choco was interviewed for the job but was never in the hunt because the Hird deal was done. The most amazing thing about our pre-season training in Darwin was how badly our marketing people managed the photo opportunities. Who was the genius who thought it would be a good idea to have a photo with players sitting in and on an army tank when the club was being investigated for alleged tanking?

I agree with the general thought that GWS right now is struggling more so than most would have thought acceptable, and that they're a bit of a shambles. They've managed their list poorly, their senior players are crap, some of their kids haven't lived up to the hype, and their big recruits have also sucked (Scully the perfect example). But I don't agree with the myopic people who can't see the long-term view on this one. GWS is there to make AFL a sport of choice in Western Sydney. That's not going to happen overnight in areas where NRL and soccer dominate. That's why the team is there, not in Tasmania, where people already play and support AFL.

Good to c as reported in the HS Richmond will allow assistant Mark Williams to be interviewed for the Melbourne coaching job during the season. That's a positive step forward. Interestingly in the article they say that we have contacted Eade but no appointment has been made which is probably due to coollywobbles not allowing him to be interviewed but I wonder if it means anything. Probably not but u never know.

I assume you mean soccer dc. It is probably that i was bought up on a 100% diet of Aussie rules but nothing happens to my untrained eye. I watch for an hour then go to the loo for 1 minute to miss the only score for the game. I may have watched 100 hours in my life and seen one goal live. I truely struggle with the concept that a nil all game can be "a great game"

Really depends on your definition of soft I guess. I've seen him hit contests hard and at the bottom of packs. I've also seen the toughest players the AFL has to offer squib a contest at some point or another. This includes Hodge, Mitchell, Hayes, Bartel, Selwood, Franklin, D Martin, Ablett, Swan, Watts (hehe), Boyd, Goodes, H Taylor, N Reiwoldt, Chapman, and on and on and on and on.... The only ones I haven't seen anything but 100% commitment to each contest time and time again is J Brown and our own Jack Viney. I think you need to re-evaluate your definition of the word soft, and I would suggest that 90%+ of AFL players wouldn't fit it.

I think it would be a massive mistake to sign up any coach for 5 years. A lot can happen in that time and it can be a hefty payout if it doesn't work. It doesn't make good business sense when you have competition for the spot.

Ive mentioned thisbefore but themore I think of it the more I wouldnt realywant Roos if he were only coming himself , for a couple of years, before handing over to his apprentice. I want someone who is available to invest of themselves to get this team a lot further along the road than we might get in say 2 years Its a bit like taking our money but no care or responsibility for any real outcomes. That wouldnt be good enough for me and I hope the club take s a similar view. I dont want tokenism, I want commitment.

I once went to the footy with a mate of mine who was bemused by my antics during the match. This guy was a Psychologist by profession and had only started following the dee's since recently moving to Melbourne. He said that during the match I visibly aged a couple of years. He said that I displayed every symptom of a host of psychological conditions but in particular from the bipolar spectrum, e.g. depression, elation, anxiety, bravado, humiliation, aggression and ultimately self loathing. He was quite intrigued the state of my football Record, (it resembled confetti ). From that point on I always aware that he was in some way watching me and so I toned down my antics when in his presence, but somehow despite my best efforts the footy record would always end up looking like confetti, which he would duly note. Fast track to couple of years later and I run into the same guy leaving the "G" after a nail-biter.We talked for a couple of minutes and consoled our selves in the knowledge that we were robbed when I noticed the state of his footy record. What was left of it looked like it had been used to clean something a sick dog had done. I couldn't help myself and smiled somewhat insanely at him, to his credit he immediately knew where I was coming from and promptly hit me over the head with record and stormed off yelling "You did this to me you bastard". Thanks to him and my kids I have learned to control my self somewhat but you are right ingeniokinetic, I am a fraud, just ask my footy record.

The background to this is actually quite interesting. In the 1980s, the then VFL commissioned a review of its structure and operations. While it is well known that the VFL adopted the Commission model and national expansion, what is lesser known is that the report also recommended making sure the VFL (now AFL) remained a sport where the masses would attend every week and not just for major events (what the sports world calls the "theatre-going crowd"). The VFL (now AFL) has pretty much adopted that mantra ever since. The NRL and cricket went the other way (whether deliberately or accidentally I don't know) and put all their eggs in the big events basket. Now both sports get big crowds for State of Origin and Ashes tests but relatively small crowds to almost everything else. This can be highlighted by Melbourne Storm's game last weekend. They were thrashed because they rested players before the State of Origin - which ultimately devalues the home and away games and tells supporters the premiership season is not that important. I suspect the AFL believes that State of Origin wouldn't work because it would damage the premiership season. And the clubs don't like it because who wants their best players being injured in a game that's meaningless with respect to the Premiership?

With a real coach and an injection of a 2-3 experienced good players such as Buddy or someone like an Ablett, GWS will become a very good team. There is simply too much talent in their list. That is, assuming they hang onto them. I too think Tassie deserve a team, but financially and in terms of growth of the game, it's a no brainer - western Sydney has to succeed. Massive population growing rapidly, numbers = money, bigger growth potential for the game than Tassie, need to establish a foothold in the soccer strong land. If they do it right, it will pay for itself in due course. Tassie has a small population, it's economy is stuffed, it is economically and geographically isolated. It would survive only because of continual Tas State Govt and AFL support. What it does have going for it is a passion for the game, which is obviously hugely important. No way. It kills the club competition, at the very least for a big chunk of it in the middle of the season. Just ask South Sydney's coach this morning. The beauty of the AFL is that the whole focus of the competition is on the ultimate glory in September, for players and supporters alike. As an aside, the letters 'NRL' embody everything I loathe about Australia: dumb, aggressive, red neck, mindless parochialism - and the State of Origin, perhaps more than anything else, highlights that in the middle of every year.

I liked state of origin in AFL when we had it, but AFL has moved and grown past it now, and I don't miss it. In trying to make it all inclusive, games including The Allies were irrelevant. Zero interest in NRL state of origin...........I couldn't care less if QLD beat NSW.............two states playing each other.......for what???? It says a lot about where NRL is as a sport that they hang their hat on a two state rivalry. They simply have no idea how to build a national code.

Mark Williams appears to have an X-factor about him. Eade would be a classic straight down the line coach, no BS and no mix messages. Whereas I feel Williams would change things up more and be less predictable. I also think he'd be better at spruiking the club and being a premiership coach would carry more weight with the members who may be on the fence about getting on board. Williams at this stage is my choice, however if we win 3+ games and start to look quite good then Craig has to be given serious consideration. Early on the players seem to be responding to him but it could simply be a release from being under Neeld.

According to the rules/penalties someone(s) HAS to take a whack. Unlike the L Armstrong affair there is blatant paperwork to show intenr and use of A non sanctioned substance.. Let the user beware. I don't need to tell a single person reading this forum that its been a tough several years for us all. Like many on here I love my footy club, its been mine since birth and I find myself caring about it more than I probably should. I don't need to provide a spread sheet of the potential saviours, false dawns, tragedies, mistakes, anguish and failures we as a club have endured. There has been times in the past few years where in my darker moments I was forced to ponder which club I'd barrack for should mine bite the dust? The sad answer is, there is no answer, I'd probably give the game away. During this time I think we've each held onto something that has kept us going. A thought, a hope, a simple wish. I'm interested to know what yours is? What's the one thing that has kept you supporting our club during these lean years?

I'm with you on this Cowboy. Those contrived sequences on OTC were becoming an irritation with Roos repeating on a weekly basis that he wasn't interested in coaching only for the other two to raise it the next week. The running gag was wearing thin and hopefully, its going to go away. We don't need a reluctant coach who can only be persuaded/cajoled by the offer of coin. I suspect that had he decided to come to us he would have become the Tom Scully of the coaching fraternity.

Thanks for that. So leaving aside the newbies, we are 20 games behind the next lowest and both of them are in the eight at the moment. The Dogs are more than double our wins and have played finals recently. Those stats speak for themselves, as to our overwhelming need for player assistance. That need can't be matched by any other team. We are in a very strong position top get help. As I have said previously, if we don't no one will.

The Bulldogs should be awarded a PP at the end of the first round. If they're still down next year, then they should receive one at the start of the first round next year.

Per game he is averaging 4.5 less disposals, 2 less clearances, 1.5 less tackles, and getting less contested ball in general. He's not past it yet, but he's definitely on a sharp decline and you'd think he only has one more year left in him based in this years form. He's getting consistently beaten by his opponents this year, doesn't have the speed or fitness to effect as many contests and thus isn't winning as much contested ball either. After the history of him leaving us, and the fact we'd get one average year out of him, it's a pass.

These kids should be honoured to play for any AFL, it sickens me the media scum even ask the question.
