  3. There's a massive Demon fan i know. Goes by the name "BIG POPPA". He's been following the Demons since just after the last GF. In other words a pretty long time. Almost Old Dee territory! Note i said "almost" Old Dee! He doesn't post on here but watches the goings on once in a while pre season and spasmodically through the season. He reckons Demonland needs an injection of peptides into the mix on here as it's a little too dour and negative of late leading into the season (in general, not in all posts obviously). Big Poppa asked me to remind everyone on here of the following re how we might go in the opening round........ The year was 1994. In our lead up practice matches we crapped out losing to the Pies in the final practice match of that year, only kicking a total of 4 goals for the entire match. One week later, the opening round 1994, no one gave us a a chance against the cats, however we had other ideas...... http://finalsiren.com/MatchDetails.asp?GameID=1415&Code=7f3417889685e53b6349381e472a5518 In addition, we made the finals that year, beating Carlton in one of the best finals i've seen us play and thrashing the Doggies coming into the preliminary, but running into a pept up.....sorry...pumped up West Coast in Perth. I remember speaking to one offical at the club the year after that finals series and he claimed many within the club believed we had missed one of our biggest chances to snatch a GF since 64. However we did see a real star for the club absolutely shine during the early part of that series, and what an impact this young bloke had..... I for one plan to give the boys everything i got on Sunday. It's time for the Phoenix to finally emerge from the fire....It's time to start winning. Lets start by kicking the Power's ass back over the border where it belongs! CARN THE MIGHTY DEMONS!.

  4. WELCOME TO THE BIG TIME, SON. WE DON'T EXPECT YOUR ARRIVAL TO CURE ALL OUR ILLS OVERNIGHT. BUT TO MY MIND YOUR DEBUT SYMBOLICALLY CONSIGNS THE PAST SIX YEARS OF PAIN TO THE DUSTBIN OF HISTORY. ON SUNDAY THE MFC STARTS IT'S INEXORABLE MARCH TO OWNERSHIP OF THE TITLE "HARDEST TEAM TO PLAY AGAINST IN THE AFL". CARNA MIGHTY DEMONS!

  6. Starvation is heinous and is a huge issues in our society. There have been any number of young men who have been killed or received serious life changing injuries as a result of starvation (and some older blokes - Phil Scully being just one tragic example). This thread may well be jocular in nature but joking about food wastage trivializes and normalizes it. It help create an environment where wasting food is acceptable, where it is ok Forty years ago making racist jokes was fair game (and of course reflective of a racist country) - just joking, if you take offence you're just PC blah blah blah. This is not the case any more and one would hope would no longer be the case with food. I wonder if people think it is funny to joke about Africans and the millions who die because they have no pies in their face?

  11. They over stated the 7 changes. The only player we've lost that we wanted is Rivers. Who would play instead of Viney, Toumpas, Jones and Byrnes? Cale Morton, Gysberts, Lazy Beamer and Ricky (can't get a game at Richmond) Pettard? I'll take the future over a proven failed passed.

  14. How bout we name it "Which AFL player or personality would you like to do nothing to just in case someone gets upset about it"

  15. I think that shows how crap they think we are: 'they have to win this game to be relevant, but they are so irrelevant that they will lose.' I hope they are wrong.

  16. I love how most experts have tipped us to lose but have also said its a massive issue if we dont win. If we're not favourites in their eyes and we dont get up how is that the case.

  18. Unlike some here, I like the way MN, NC and DM are building the club, and yes it will take another year of solid pre-season to take us to another step but it is worth it, I would like to be playing finals football every year and we might even snag a flag, and that is better than just getting there one year and not the next that is just as hard as we are now. These three know how to build a club and if anyone here thinks they don't then you don't know much on how a successful football club is really built. We were that far behind all the other clubs fitness wise, skill wise and to a lesser extent smart football brains. Yes we are all disappointed that it is taking another coach to come in and start again but by hell this time the Board and the football department are all on the same page no player running to the board, no board members talking to the players and that is because everyone knows there role and that is what the players are learning. So we now go into another year not knowing what to expect, and I for one will not go on the amount of wins but how we we compete when the chips are down, which players dig in and play their role, who steps up and goes harder even more, and when you get 22 players doing the same thing that's when clubs become successful for long periods of time.

  19. RR i could not agree more. I would support locking the thread. To my mind the thread (and the other one it is pulled from) is in breach of the Code of Conduct Violence against Polyester Cotton wet blankets is heinous and is a huge issues in our society. There have been any number of young rugs that have been killed or received serious pulled threads as a result of big pricks, David Hale, (and some little pricks - Brent Guerra's rug being just one tragic example). This thread may well be jocular in nature but joking about male pattern baldness trivializes and normalizes it. It help create a toupee where loose threads are acceptable, where they are ok Forty years ago making 'baldy' jokes was fair game (and of course reflective of a country with plentiful Italian and Greek immigrants) - just joking, if you take offence you're just a Polyester-Cotton wearing blah blah blah. This is not the case any more and one would hope would no longer be the case with hair loss. I wonder if people think it is funny to joke about Ricky Ponting and his ex-spin bowler? If the poll is actually about who is least liked why not make it about who is least follicled? Why not tie it to baldness and allow a forum for people with full heads of hair to make stupid jokes about chrome domes?

  21. First case, assault with a weapon - Jurrah NOT GUILTY. Aggravated assault - charge to be DROPPED Drink driving - yet to be decided but hard to argue against and he will be treated in the same way as anyone else. Latest "assault" - police still investigating, NO CHARGES laid as yet. There is only one joke in this thread at the moment and that is YOU! Just what is it you really have against Jurrah? What is your agenda? Currently, the drink driving charge is the only blot on his record at the moment and he is no different to the thousands upon thousands of others charged with the same offence.

  22. Surprised and a bit disappointed that Nev Jetta didn't make the 25 (assuming he is fit). My guess is that Blease, Pederson, Davey, and Matt Jones will be in the final 22, with Blease the sub.

  27. You want to upset collingwood supporters? Just tell them you dont hate any team especially the new teams, eagles, gws, bears, collingwood or essendon, after all we let them play our game. They love to be hated so take that away from them ,they go ballistic especially when you call them a new team.

  32. It honestly feels like we've been "young and inexperienced" for going on 7 years now. We are the Peter [censored] Pan of the competition. I have to admit I really tire of the age excuse being trotted out, and to do so before a ball has been bounced just annoys me. Last year we had the fourth youngest list. Fifth youngest list? Adelaide. They went okay. Effort counts for a hell of alot in this game, that's part of what makes it so great. Things can turn around completely in the space of one season. It happens year after year. I really want to believe it can be us in 2013, but I've touched that stove too many times now. I'll need to see it.

  34. I must say that I didn't object to these comments Old Dee.I thought Don's speech soundly balanced positivity with realism. For years Melbourne supporters have been slagged off as soft "theatre-goers " just as happy to waltz off to the snow as to watch their team struggle. The club is increasingly trying to get the message across that Melbourne supporters are passionate about their club. We aren't going to win any competition for supporter numbers - we want to be known as a club whose supporters stick - and fight. I suspect that he was warning us that a loss is in store for 2013. What with a $500k fine, legal fees of at least that amount, a distracted Community Relations Manager - and heaps of bad publicity to discourage potential members and sponsors - Don was just stating the obvious. Let's quietly remind the AFL of the damage their criminally unfair investigation has done to our club as equalization talks hot up If we can lift on the field - and secure enough match day revenues in these tough economic times to keep the loss to less than $500k - I reckon we will have done well. Sad - but true.

  35. Somebody should tell Peter Gordon that the AFL's first language is telling porky pies. His comments are refreshing and honest but go against the grain of what leadership in football is all about. He should listen to the AFL's explanation of the outcome of the tanking investigation to get a handle on how leaders in this sport should communicate. On the other hand, I think Neeld steered a fairly middle of the road path, telling it more or less how it is without exposing the warts. As always, the bookies who have us pegged at the bottom four or five have just about got it pegged right. If he can lift us above that level this year then he's steering the ship on the right course.

  38. I believe WJ ,that we are talking more about the "punchability" of the face/head in this instance rather than our willingness to actually perform the act . Hypothetically ,we are only really choosing which head invokes the most desire to get a punch from the voters , rather than who we will punch(which we wont). For instance, I have no desire to punch Wayne Carey as it would probably lead to serious injury.(Mine not his). Whilst Caro will likely win this poll ,I doubt anyone would hit a woman ,or want to . Merely a modern phrasing , albeit with violent connotations. I think I'd rather slap Andy Maher anyway ,hypothetically.

Mate....10 years ago I would have agreed with you......but now I am much more confident that our club will not only suvive but it can prosper I see that Carlton and Collwood have debts in the millions...and there are a lot of clubs worse off than us.....Slowly but surely we are becomming relevant.....Just need a few wins...
