  1. Clearly there are degrees of everything and just as clearly we don't want Tapscott getting suspended every time he takes the field, but there are moments in a club's history where they need some players to make a statement. I'm not overly big on making statements with selection, as those dropped are usually fringe and it's warranted, but I am big on statements made on the footy field. This club has been pushed around for too long. We know it, the club knows it and the players know it. Mitch Clark and Luke Tapscott decided after quarter time that enough is enough. It's no coincidence that when the players became more physical the team gained confidence. In my opinion, occasionally it's justified for a player to cross the line. And on a big stage like Queen's Birthday, the biggest game of the round, with all eyes on the club after a disastrous first half of the year, we needed players to show some aggression. If Tapscott subsequently crossed the line then so be it; in fact, under the circumstances, I embrace it. There's one other thing worth noting. It was widely known when Tapscott was drafted by Melbourne that he had a bit of you "know what" in him on the footy field. It's one of the things the club liked about him. They knew we didn't have enough players of that ilk. Footy clubs need players with metal to develop the type of hard edge that generates success. The club wouldn't publicly endorse Tapscott's indiscretion, but I doubt they'd privately bemoan it either. It was the right statement at the right time. And Titan. The gentle nudge over the boundary line was nothing more than a show of disdain and gamesmanship. You're over-rating its significance greatly. It was a very mild shove at worst. In fact, Tapscott was obviously mindful of the bunker, otherwise the force would have been far greater. You're making a mountain out of a molehill.

  2. [censored] off with this Jack Darling crap already. We weren't the only ones who passed up on him. He is good, but he also has an A grade midfield serving the ball to him on a platter. This stuff is as bad as the ridiculous amount of love given to NicNat every time he farts, despite the fact he can't kick. Howe takes better marks anyway. Enough of feeling sorry for ourselves because we didn't draft every good player ever.

  4. Garbage. We will only fold if our membership base turns up their toes & caves into defeatism. It goes without saying that we need to improve on the field but the socialist equalization policies of the AFL & cyclical nature of the competition gives us the opportunity to turn it around. The above post is nothing but mindless negativity & shameful defeatism.

  12. Interesting that quite a few of us have made the leap and are posting here daily. It reminds me of the end of WCW, after it was bought out by the WWE. Most of the talent went to the new product - [censored] whats the alternative?? Of course TGR will be like Sting and will never be seen in the merged product.

  13. I happened to be on level 4 of the MCC at 1.15 pm last Monday and witnessed a very nice little ceremony: the opening of the "Robert Flower Terrace Bar" and the "David Neitz Terrace Bar". The ceremony was performed by MCC vice president, Steve Smith. Other MCC committee members, Don McLardy, Robby, David and quite a number of former players were in attendance - I was standing next to Rod Grinter! Robert Flower's brother Tom was also there and Robby spoke fondly about them playing together for the Dee's. Steve Smith of course a 200 game player for the club was very effusive in his praise for both men. He even fantasized about kicking a perfect pass from full back to Robby on the wing, Robby weaving and baulking around six or seven opposition players then delivering a perfect pass to David at full forward. David naturally slots it "perfectly"! Steve did mention that when he first saw a very skinny, frail looking Robby arrive at the club he, and others thiought Robby wouldn't last more than a few weeks. It was nice to see the MCC committee decide to honour to great MFC champs in this way. Both Terrace Bars are on level 4 in the MCC members area. Pleasant places to enjoy a beer on a warm day!

  14. I knew it DC before I agreed with rpfc I could guarantee the result. Now I think this is what I was agreeing to, rpfc may or not side with me. The thread is about "changes for the GWS game" rpfc made the observation that he was amazed how low his care factor was. I assume he meant that he was having trouble caring who was in or who was out. I agreed ten days out I am having trouble caring who is dropped and who is included. Happy with that? Probably not however to answer your questions "what difference will it make"? Based on the last 11 weeks the inns and outs seem to have meant very little to the result in the following game. I doubt dropping Green and replacing him with bate will make little difference You don't care if we win against gws? - yes I care You don't care if Green is dropped or not?- No I don't care You don't care if a new kid who has done well at Casey debuts? Based on the past 11 weeks he will not get a run. Why post on this thread? Because I like discussions with the majority of people on Demonland.

  22. I really would like to belt some of you, 3 busted vertebrae and his heart and effort are denigrated, you imagine trying to come back and play the toughest contact sport short of boxing, knowing that your spine had been broken, and tell me you wouldn't take awhile to get up to speed. The downhill skiers are on this forum, whether Col is long term for us will be found out in the future but he has 2012 as a grace period for my money. This man has had serious injuries playing for the Demons, our club, and deserves a bit more respect, they are not pea heart injuries but things earned going in after the pill. If he was useless the opposition wouldn't play him so tight.

  23. Entirely agree. The arrogance and pig-headedness of the position taken by the pro-merger crew was disgraceful. I appreciate that Ridley acted in good faith, but he was not listening. The way they stacked proxy votes demonstrates that they were relentlessly pursuing their agenda, rather than having the members vote. I was there at Dallas Brooks, and I saw how many people were locked out of voting. There is no doubt that this was known to those in control, and they let that happen. Now that we have a training and growth venue, as well as financial stability, I wonder how these people can look at themselves. To those who say that it was a takeover, I say there is no such thing. We were going to merge the theme song, the jumper, the colours, the identity and the history. Hawthorn saved itself and us.

  24. Morton is yet to make his mark The annoying thing from my point of view is that these articles take such a superficial approach to what happens in a game. I don't recall many, if any, Melbourne supporter jeering Alan Didak "when he hobbled off injured in the opening minutes". Were these same people (whoever they were) the same ones who "cheered as one of their own left the field"? Sounds contrived to me. It might be a compliment to Demonland that a journalist finds it necessary to consult us and ascertain what we're saying but its really unfair on Cale Morton and doesn't really add much to the story of a young player trying to make his way in a team that has substantially underperformed throughout the early years of his career. Much like when Jack Watts was under the microscope earlier in the year. Morton's was a monumental blunder and it hurt the team at a crucial time but, all things considered, I reckon his overall performance was reasonable and a little better than the effort of this journo with this particular article.

  26. Deal. You can go watch Ricky play for Casey, and I'll watch Cale play for Melbourne. Like it or not Cale will be there next year. I think they'll put some work into his upper body and he'll continue coming along. He's an easy target now that Watts is playing well.

  29. Thinking of the merger makes me feel physically ill. I have respect for Ian Ridley - he truly loved the club & saw no alternative. I also sympathize with members who voted 'yes' out of being conned by a campaign of dirty tricks but those who stood & fought are the true heroes of this club. The 'yes' vote is a nasty stain on our history.

  30. What I find laughable is the fake efforts to 'make an attempt' to get rid of the ball. The umps insist you pretend to punch - I've seen players in possession punching the ball into their chests to make the umps happy. Yet a guy with ten people sitting on top of him who couldn't move his arms to save his life is penalized for not making an attempt.

  32. As has often been pointed out on these baords and highlighted no end of time. Cols issues are between his ears.. Dont you lot go and start hanging excuses on this or that now. He may well be restiricted in some manner ( as are many players ) through a lack of 100% injury free fitness but once youre over that whote line you better bloody well give 100% and 100% of the time. Thats their f'n job !! Col is lazy...simply as.. A grossly talented player who just cant be stuffed doing it hard all the time. Even if he played at 75% ..for 50% of the game hed be a very valuable and influential player but he just doesnt seem to be able to muster even that. Its annoying...and he gets paid for it....more annoying.

" _______________________________________________________________________________________________ WHAT,,,,,,,,,, You mustn't have seen Long trying to break Simmond's neck, or the guy holding Green while Wallis tried to fracture his larynx. There could easily have been two Demon fatalities in the first half of the 2000 GF. That's no exaggeration.

  39. Nathan Brown should have been stiff. And by that I mean he should have been given a week for accidental contact. You instigate, you don't mean harm, you harm, you are unlucky, you sit out. Nathan Brown's clumsiness should have been punished.

  40. In a real court the impact to the victim is taken into account on sentencing . Jay Vineys jaw= Wojo back out playing before JV has healed. CS back= slap on the wrist but Col out for 8 weeks CS nose= ok we wont bring up your late hit(in play) if your ignore the broken nose out of play. JT sling= 3 weeks but Dangerfield playing next match. Buddy Sling= keep filling the stands and the papers mate and we'll let it slide. I cant wait till we are a powerful club again and things start to go our way .

  41. i would prefer as a pre game entertainment stream, some real & proper jousting (Game of Thrones style)...By this i mean real swords & real action Let's see some real blood on the MCG Turf before the Demons run out onto the ground to finish the job properly. That would get the crowd fired...sod the boring music that is too loud.

  46. The amount of times a game I see opposition players trying to take Howe's legs out while he's flying for a mark, makes me sick. You wanna talk about unfair, extremely dangerous and frankly disgusting behaviour on the field, talk about that. Never ever does he get a free kick for it, and he could well end up with a serious spine injury one day (remember Sylvia?). Hitting someone a bit late in the side during a marking contests is tough play, not rough play. As for pushing Maxwell over the line, Tappy had the exact same thing done to him the previous week and went head first into the fence. Nobody raised an eyebrow.
