The question is whether this is fair dinkum or a ploy by a Saints fan who is also in the media trying to force the club to salvage a situation whereby they stand to lose a player valued by the fans?

The fourth-year ballwinner had another strong season in 2025 averaging 22 disposals and three tackles across 23 matches.

But the Demons will have to wait until they sign a new coach to go ahead with the move.

Melbourne has a list of recruiting targets it wants its new coach to speak to once the club appoints a replacement for Simon Goodwin.

It means Windhager’s future is in a holding pattern with the Kangaroos prepared to sign Windhager for five years to help compliment their young and talented midfield mix.

One of Windhager’s best friends, developing ruckman Max Heath, is also in Melbourne’s radar as a back-up tall for superstar big man Max Gawn.

It means if Windhager picks Melbourne, they could go as a package deal, but no decisions have yet been made.

It’s a big yes from me. Mids that can excel both offensively and defensively don’t grow on trees. Still so young too so plenty of room for improvement.

Hopefully we get it done.

Shaping as an absolutely wild off season for St Kilda. And not in their old setting people on fire or texting your ballsack way.

Four player movements in already 'confirmed' and persistent talk about Sam Flanders, multiple exits 'strongly rumoured', a coach probably second to only Voss for pressure going into 2026 with a near-designated successor Corey Enright already at the club and in danger of being Yze'd out if they miss the window to promote him.

I'm sure St Kilda are thinking in terms of Richmond's high risk pre-glory recruitment drive that went so well, but they could just as easily end up with the tragic 'scattergun' result of the Neeld-Schwab Demons.

remember when the aints brought in recruits from other clubs - paddy ryder, bobby hill, dougal howard, mason wood, zak jones, jack higgins - and the best they achieved was losing an elimination final at the g to gw$?

i see this as little different

In 2020 they lost a close semi final to the Tigers, after beating the Dogs in the elimination.

But yeah your point still stands!

Windhager gives me ANB vibes, especially his development arc. I am not sold on any brilliance, but he runs both ways and can actually kick so it a yes.

The last sentence makes it feel to me like his manager is playing games and trying to eek out more dollars from the saints

More dollars from the Saints? Do they have any left after their recent multiple overs?

Diamond Jim revisited?

Just read somewhere tonight StK have upped the offer to Windhager. Don’t know what to

Was always the play here. Doubt he's going anywhere tbh.

I agree, he certainly has a lot of potential but still don't think he justifies a first round pick. Particularly when he's out of contract and St Kilda allegedly low balled him with a 2 year contract at average pay and prioritised bringing in the likes of Silvagni and Ryan.

Their loss.

He is 100% worth a first. If we can get it cheaper, beauty. They did, but then upped it to 4 years at ok money. But it sounds like maybe the damage has been done.

Today’s Herald Sun -

“St Kilda will attempt to put a revised offer to midfielder Marcus Windhager to help keep the hardnut from joining Melbourne or North Melbourne”.

Sounds like the plan’s working.

Listening to Nick Reiwoldt last night, he did not sound overly confident of the Saints keeping him.

He actually said he wasn't that good, but that they would like to keep him.

That'd be nice to hear if you're Windhager

Hopefully they’ve upped his offer to playing for Melbourne.

I feel like Windhager’s manager is putting it out in the public forum that he’s willing to walk. Saints offered a pathetic 2 years, then 3 years and now 4 years at around $700k a year. He’s more likely to stay at the Saints than go but if the Dees are offering 5 years then we’d have to be a chance.

And if we are offering 6 years?

And if his close mate Heath is coming to us?

Reiwoldt devaluing Windhager is strange. Guess we should only offer a 3rd rounder then.

Probably trying to drive down external contract offers?

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
