So we want to replace a team with clear psychological issues with a coach who oversaw multiple brain melting crumbles on the biggest stage of all?

🤦

Not sure about the list bit. Struggling to see their young core coming through minus Jagga who hasn't even played a game.

If father sons stay they’re about to hit the jackpot. Moir, Cooper Lord, Oli Hollands, Cowan can play. I really like HOF, shame he’s done his knee. It’s not a great list tho.

We’re ahead in rebuilding the list to a new game plan.

If Richo stays it’s simply about the soft cap pressures. Simple as that.

i suspect you can't pay $1m out on goodwin then presumably half that again on richo

Surely @BLWNBA ’s scoop that Richardson would be retained but moved into a different role reinforces this

There’s no way the board - let alone a new coach - is going to want the former Football Manager continuing to run the joint

We have worse facilities, fewer members, less money, a 2hr round trip to Casey required multiple times per week, a dysfunctional board, a new CEO, probably/hopefully a new head of football, possibly/hopefully a new list manager, a $1m coach payout that is going to impact our bottom line and salary cap problems.

Yeah, but apart from that we’re flying.

The soft cap is about equalisation. It’s not about restricting clubs. AFL policies can be restrictive and should allow leniency when clubs are under performing.

I find it odd that Richo is going to be part of the panel when he should have been out the door quicker than Goodwin. Also don’t teams normally get someone from outside the club to be on the panel?

Don't be filly.

We'll need someone filly focused on going for geld.

I really hope we have at least one other person on the panel. I mean we have one person on it that would highly likely be sacked if we could afford it. And a new CEO who the club has told us they will need to get up to speed with the football side of things picking our new coach.

I am not confident at all.

I can’t remember where it was reported but one of the journos said we would likely have an external consultant on the panel too

Longmire is the only one of the recycled coach that excites

I’m with you. He is proven and his coaching statistics at the Swans are very sound , including a Premiership. I think he’d be a real asset. I prefer him over the others in the mix. Also I think it should be irrelevant as to whether they are a former player or not. Indeed an outside influence, may be what the Club needs.

My dream:

Horse to replace Richardson

Enright to replace Goodwin

Cam Bruce to replace Jones

Chaplin back to backline coach

Brad Miller in as forwards coach

Let Choco go if he won't renew for cheaper

Selwyn out and pay anything left to convince Burgess to come back

Would love to see Gus come back to the club in an offield role with the new coach. The soul of our club died the day he was forced into retirement by the AFL. Can’t stop thinking about his post GF interview in the rooms with Gary Lyon. He loved the club so much & was so excited about the future.

Entirely irreplaceable was Gus. A clear most valuable person and player. I’m sure Goody is a few red wines in tonight thinking of all the ‘What If?’ moments since 2021. None would be more prevalent than Gus’ early retirement.

Longmire would be a great get been there done that. RESPECTED. Bruce I'd also consider has a great CV as assistant at Brisbane and Hawthorn. The rest I don't trust.

Craig Jennings has always intrigued me.

Currently the GWS midfield coach, but has worked under Pagan, Sheedy/Hird, Beveridge and spent four years at the MFC.

Never played seniors (and Fagan has shown this isn’t crucial) but is highly regarded as one of the sharpest football minds in the business (he’d occasionally appear on Whatley’s SEN show with some of the best game-analysis I’ve heard).

He’s an eccentric guy. Currently living in a van near the GWS training facilities (his family are back here in VIC) and recently built a shelter for the stray cats around there. He was contracted for 9 months up there, but Kingsley has held onto him for three years now. He’s probably pretty keen to sleep in a house again.

Kind of sad tonight. It’s the end of an era that delivered a premiership after more than five decades of misery. Cannot thank Goodwin enough for his contribution. He deserves fond memories as time now goes by.

Will move into mark Williams’ role

Goodwin had already won a flag. So in a way he knows how to do it.

Getting any of the up and comers is just going to put the team way behind the premiership race.

Bring in Horse and he knows how footy premierships are fought for and won.

Only Horse for mine. Alternatively ask for Goodwin's forgiveness and give him one more shot next year (oh but the club probably is too proud to admit they made a mistake).

There is really no-one out there that I would prefer to Goodwin.

We needed to throw Nate Jones and Selwyn Griffith out at least. But Goody?? Big call. It's all too familiar melbourne demons melodrama for mine.

Prediction is that they'll sink hard

What if we don't improve under Horse? That would be a 'mare.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.
