gs77 4,616 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 (edited) I just loved that BBB commented in the 4th that North would be looking to show their mettle and keep their system despite being down, and from that moment on we banged on a series of goals with ease. Edited February 22 by gs77 1 3 Quote

I don’t know if that’s the plan with Campbell. Bill already has his ticket punched and Jeffo looking to be that way as well unfortunately for the both of them. I did however think Chandler worked really hard playing in that role. Often goes unnoticed as it’s a forward defensive role. It was an incredibly tough day for tall forwards ..actually talls in general. Jefferson was def not disgraced & so premature to make that comment … It was ok sitting under the trees but without that protection the sun & wind was brutal. What stood out for me was Melb’s fitness levels. We were still running and putting on pressure right till the end. 17 1 1 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,775 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Oliver was a class above. Too much boundary play in the first half. Second half we took the game on Pleasing game from Sparrow and JVR. Sharp edging Chandler for Round 1. Defensively we seemed to lack polish but Lever showed his class. All in all an excellent showing 7 Quote
Whispering_Jack 31,368 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 The Herald Sun is reporting that the knee injury to defender Andy Moniz-Wakefield in the dying moments of the Arden Street clash is “concerning.” "The Demons fear a devastating ACL blow for the 21-year-old, who was set to play an important lockdown role in defence with Judd McVee already sidelined due to a serious hamstring injury. "Melbourne assistant coach Troy Chaplin conceded the incident, which left Moniz-Wakefield writhing on the ground in pain before he was assisted off by trainers, looked ‘pretty nasty’. "’Obviously he's pretty flat at the moment, but we'll have to go away and get a scan just to confirm it ... it didn't look good, from a visual point of view, but we're hoping for the best there,’ Chaplin said." 1 2 6 Quote

I can't remember the last time we entered a season with a healthy list. Hope AMW only has a strain. The initial reaction didn't look good however. If it is season ending, I would be approaching the AFL to replace him, as it is unfair that the SSP end was in the middle of a round of match sims. All sims should be completed before the cut off date, or none of them. There is obviously more chance of injury in contact games, than training. Edited February 22 by Redleg 10 1 2 2 Quote
Fat Tony 5,337 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Langford looks the goods but is a bit slow. Will need to get strong enough to bully them on the inside. Lindsay looks excellent. Has time and can kick it a long way. Jefferson is a mile off. Lacks football smarts and intensity. Oliver was just ok. I’m not convinced he’s going to be an A grader again. AMW played well. Hopefully it’s not an ACL. Sharp looks a magnificent replacement for ANB. Great recruiting. TMac is a better defender than Petty. Sparrow played well. Campbell played a good game and will be handy depth. Johnson was good in his cameo. 3 1 5 2 Quote

The AFL had no sympathy with the Angus Brayshaw situation last season when he retired on the eve of the season and the SSP window had just shut. Unfortunately there’ll be no exceptions. 3 2 1 Quote

U didnt like the way Jefferson found separation, first in a long kick to a pack as he read the drop of the ball well before his defender, or when he read that Langford was swinging on to his left and slipped his man to create an uncontested mark on a lead. Finding separation is half the battle and it seems he has that ability. 15 3 Quote

whatwhat say what 23,865 Posted February 22 Posted February 22 watched the second half on replay after watching the first half live firstly, on the oppo... i'd be very concerned if i was clarkson - north lacked any intensity in the second half and applied minimal pressure; daniel, parker, and darling might add experience but they offer nothing defensively while their senior players have skill but other than ldu the workrate isn't there on us... we just looked a better team, with arguably 12 of our best 25 not in the side: 1. may 3. salem 4. mcvee 5. petracca 6. windsor 7. viney 10. spargo 11. gawn 12. tholstrup 15. langdon 18. melksham 31. fritsch on those that did play... highlights: super impressed by langford and lindsay, billings looks like he's running hard to make space, oliver's burst speed away from stoppages is back, rivers is a classy permanent addition to the mids, van rooyen is a beauty with 4 goals in the second half while sharp looks a likely type in the forward half with the occasional bit of work up the wing lowlights: jefferson is simply not strong enough in the contest, laurie doesn't impact as a mid and is poor under pressure, and losing moniz-wakefield to a likely acl is a real shame 12 Quote
