I would never write off a JT selection.  I for one believe there are many country footballers who, on talent alone, are superior natural footballers to plenty on AFL lists, they just lacked the drive and dedication to get themsleves to the level of fitness required to compete with the elite juniors at draft age.  I played with and against plenty of guys who went on to be drafted, and there were guys who would be every bit as good, or better, but just liked the good times a bit too much to drive themselves to that level.

If this bloke has discovered that drive slightly later, there's no reason to think he can't have an impact at AFL level.  The recruiters have obviously seen something in him, and I'm here for it.  Go well young man.

How tall was Nick Riewoldt again?  Not comparing the two but sugestions 193cm is too small for an effective forward are misguided.

196cm from memory.

AJ playing second ruck and still being mobile, will allow JVR and Turner to focus on marking and kicking goals. I really like this pick.

With Petty taking TMac's spot, the flow on effect with JVR in his fourth year is going to be noticeable IMO.

That must be the plan for 2025. Allows JVR to only go into the ruck should they want him to get involved up there.

I do feel for ‘The Petty Forward Clinic Experiment’ but we have to move on, we can wait for him to get out of rehab.

You won’t find this type of writing anywhere else people…

Whose place does he take - either directly or by flow-on from other positional changes - to be able to do these things?

He could have been the 5th interchange had the conversion of the sub to that happened for 2025, but...

Am sorry to Josh Schache, but I like this guy x10 on Josh, that clip of him running at a pack at speed was Boomshakalaka. No reason why we can't pull a mature age forward recruit like a Geelong or Richmond.

Obviously most of us had a moment of "Who the [censored] is Aidan?" when this was announced, but looking at the footage we have, I'm kind of encouraged.  He's got great pace for a bigger guy and looks to have a really good vertical leap.  I think he'd be a really handy extra mid when he's rucking on top of being able to crash packs and take marks.  Obviously there are no guarantees, but what we've seen so far is pretty encouraging.

Also, just quietly, he looks like an XXL version of Chunk, couldn't help but think of Dude from Free Guy. Would be a great nickname.

6 guys, 3 spots.

JVR, Disco, Jeffo, AJ, Fullarton, Kentfield.

Or really 4 guys, 3 spots given Kentfield is super raw and Fullarton seemingly not a huge part of plans right now.

JVR plays permanent forward. AJ adapts to afl training and takes the forward/ruck job. Jeffo and Disco have a proper battle for the full forward role.

Of course that assumes Melk doesn’t get involved somehow or they go with 2 tall forwards and use Langford as another bigger body.

It's also possible we drop to two talls because as you allude to, if Langford can get the job done forward of the ball, we might he able to afford just two tall forwards, one of which chops out for Max. But we'd still maintain some marking power with Langford and Trac.

Talked about finishing up some work for his boss. Heads back to Werribee for the family day. Does seem a ripping bloke.

i was harsh on him early and tbh i dont think its a bad pick after reading some balanced reviews. age aggression are massive ticks, i think the frustration was mainly at the lack of riak. ideally id take both of them on the list and would have asked fullarton, mcadam or hore to step off honestly maybe even melky given our next flag isn't coming enxt year, but i think the leadership, professionalism and drive he offers plus he still contributes on field justifies his spot.

cam pederson is the comparison i'd make

I had thought that the MFC should have tried to recruit the fellow ruck person who shared the Margarey medal in SA this year(pardon if wrong).  But I think this bloke might do just as good a job,  younger I think and almost Vic.

I think I like him and haven't seen him get a kick

In a real world we should have drafted Riak and not given Marty Hore a one year contract. This is not a decision for our future and the Swans  swooped.

It could be interpreted as a case of poetic licence as accidents are somewhat likely on the footy field. I just want to see a little more Demon mongrel onfield, to complement the apparent increases in capabilities with our list; insofar as this is a driver for success, can - and to what degree - could a 'big-bloke' forward like Aidan assist in such a contribution? Really looking forward to a genuine Rock of Gibraltar up front and seeing him progress early in the season to deliver these goods.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
