'Instrumental' in Werribee flag.

Whooʻ the Fuuurg is Aiden Johnson???

Aidan Johnson.  Wow.  Thats a Smokey.  Saw him in the VFL GF.  Forward.  About 6”4.  Workhorse type.  Strong battler who have 100%.  A huge surprise!!! Bloke you’d see in the country footy league.  Not sure if his history prior to VFL.

NO HENDERSON OR BREW!!! the two obvious Werribee likely draftees

Wow. Didn't see that coming - we were linked with 2 other Werribee players, and wound up picking the bloke no one expected to be picked up.

Work horse. Massive heart. "Absolute wild card" is the message I just received from one of my Werribee contacts.

Statistically he's a key forward / ruckman who doesn't kick many goals, low possessions and seems too short to be a genuine ruckman. At 24, it's hard to get enthused by the pick.

I'd rather we picked Henderson.

With Jeffo (hopefully) moving up to AFL, and the loss of Brown, Schache, Tomlinson and even Farris-White, we need some tall/key position depth and protection for the Casey boys. Hard to see this as much more than that. Can pinch hit to cover Verrall, provide a target up forward. Not particularly inspiring, but perhaps necessary.

Darcy Fort was at the lions for much the same reason.

Cam Pederson type. Set to play next year

The two players that I immediately thought of were Pedersen and Podsiadly.  Hope he does as well as they did.

mmmmm

We seem to have a pattern with picks of this nature

Good luck to the young man but.............

Surprised that an under 18 All Australian tall defender in Clancy Dennis missed out?

I guess he could be a rookie draft selection?

Given that he’s a premiership player from Werribee .. I assume he’s been told he will get an AFL opportunity if he’s good enough. Why would he come just to play for Casey ?

He was the one I wanted. I'm disappointed we didn't take him. But there's hope for us yet in the rookie draft but that would mean we miss out on Noah Yze I think? not sure how many rookie picks we have available?

Season 17 Omg GIF by America's Got Talent
This is me …

ALL AUSTRALIAN CENTRE HALF BACK

CLANCY DENNIS

NOT DRAFTED

he must have really insulted the recruiting teams during his interviews

Would have been a good addition to the Dees young rebuild refresh

There's always a few players that miss out.

Surprised we didn't match a bid for Riak Andrew...but oh well.

Jason Taylor and the Melbourne Football Club recruiting team are the professionals and we can only speculate.

What picks did we have to match the bid on Riak? I thought pick 75 was worth 0 points?

What was the communication? Coz right now I’m livid.

Often with borderline F/S or NGA a club says if not selected in the draft we will take you as a rookie but unlikely to match a bid and wish you well.  Gives the player reassurance of being on a list.

For a player reckon they would rather be selected outright.  Reckon Riak would be chuffed at being selected at #55 in such an even draft.

I noticed Sydney looked quite bemused that we didn't match!

ps hope you feel better about it having slept on it.

I just hope we made the right choice of Aidan Johnson over Riak. At the moment I'm in two minds.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
