    current ceos at other melbourne-based clubs...

    • carlton: brian cook - unlikely, he's only been there a couple of years and it was seen as his 'last gig' at the time
    • collingwood: craig kelly - no chance, he's running that club like a fiefdom
    • essendon: craig vozzo - has made the move from meth coke recently, his tenure and brad scott are tied together
    • footscray: ameet bains - professional ceo, been at the dogs since 2017, time for a new challenge?
    • hawthorn: ash klein - been there last than 18 months, unlkely
    • north melbourne: jen watt - has a history with mfc, but only been there a bit over two years
    • richmond: shane dunne - just over 6 months in the gig
    • st. kilda: carl dilena - been there less than a year

    by process of elimination, ameet bains is the most likely, but jen watt is the 'cultural fit'

    Makes sense but it does favour the big clubs who have much more to spend on the CEO not to mention sales staff, media dept etc.

    These days everything is about upsell. If you can get a member to buy $50 worth of product that's an extra $5M revenue for the bigger clubs.

    I thought Graeme Wright was at Carlton?  or is he just getting the gig handed over at the end of the year from Cook?

    Asked a few q’s - it’s not a ceo at another club, and it’s not someone at a club in Melbourne that’s currently thought to be favourite 

    Jason McCartney seems to be one of the folks who is moving thru the process - someone else mentioned him earlier in this thread

    What is McCartney’s club background? Was he a list boss or GM football somewhere? 
     

    Seems a slightly odd choice given the club’s burning platform is finding a patch of grass and then building on it.

    former list manager at footscray, and prior to that dev coach at flagmantle post-retirement

    Never liked him as as player, he seemed to do dumb stuff on the field maybe I'm biased because came from Collingwood.

    I believe we were at a point where Fox had some interest before being tapped up for a position at AFL HQ.

    We like Sam Graham at Brisbane. He may not be quite ready. 

    McCartney may not have the commercial acumen. If Chippindall stays and works under him, that could suffice but i'm sure we require a more rounded Chief Executive Officer.

    iirc Graham was McLaughlin's preferred CEO when we appointed Pert.

    Has good AFL HQ experience and highly credentialled.  

    Graham has been involved in the football industry for nearly two decades, contributing across a range of strategy, operational, and leadership roles, including Strategy Manager, Manager of Club Services, General Manager Strategy, CEO of NSW/ACT, AFL General Manager of Game Development, and General Manager of Tasmania Expansion.

    Knowing one's way around AFL HQ is critical for a club CEO.

    tbh, would much prefer Graham to McCarthey who imv has a narrow experience base in many respects.  Too much 'learning on the job' required.
