It never ceases to amaze me just how much better players look in our guernsey.

Hmm sadly imo it makes our players look shorter and thinner. Whereas the cats horizontal stripes makes them look  bigger and more robust. Roos look taller.

A Hawthorn supporter reckons that that Campbell was well worth his games during their threepeat.  Bit of an upgrade on Fullarton!  :)

RBNP I don’t think that he played for Hawthorn, played for Dogs, Roos and Saints, also won the B & F for Sandy this year, 6’7” 105kg. Apparently lovely team oriented bloke that fills a need for us, will help us manage Max a lot better than we have previously. Reminds me of one of those outback weatherbeaten faces that we would see come into town for the Show when we were kids. 😁

And we shouldn’t forget that Max also needs a competitive ruckman at training and in preparation.  Don’t underestimate the value Majak Daw added to our 2021 list despite never playing a senior game - he helped make Max better.   I believe that I even read somewhere that Max said as much.

Surely they're not planning to play Campbell with Gawn?  More as insurance if he's injured / needs a rest?

Yep. There’s little to no chance IMO that Campbell and Gawn line up in the same side.

What about against the sides that have x2 genuine rucks like Freo (possibly others?)?

I wouldn't write it off all together, but agree that it's not our intention to have them both regularly in the same side.

I really do hope it means we're not playing Max if he's carrying injuries that he would benefit from resting a week, where this year he would have played because we had no quality backup option.

I think Johnson is the more likely inclusion, now, in these circumstances. Campbell is the more likely inclusion in the event Gawn is unavailable.

That's nothing compared to the horrendous bathroom incident that Hawthorn's guernsey conjures.

Robert Campbell.

Robert, who was on our rookie list in 2011, finished up at Hawthorn in 2009 (a few years before the threepeat).

He did play in Hawthorn's premiership in 2008.

As has been mentioned, "our" Tom never played for Hawthorn.  There's still time, however.  :D

Yikes.  That is embarassing.  Thanks for the correction.

That Hawthorn "fan" should certainly be embarrassed by their ignorance!

Sounds like a bandwagon supporter who has been quiet for the past few years but will no doubt come out of hibernation if the Hawks continue their renaissance.

I dislike Geeling with rare intensity. My GD played a basketball game there on Friday night which they lost. I hated it every bit as badly as watching AFL.

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
