Looking for a small guy that will chew up opp mistakes and force opp mistakes then punish on the counter.  Someone that eats crumbs off the pack for breakfast with lightning quick reflexes, a great running leap for his size (equal 9th in the National Combine) and super goal sense and finish?

At a pinch he could even play short cameo stints in the mid given a decent pre-season or two.

Is it Weightman? ... Nope!  Henry? Serong?....ummm...nah none of those.  Taylor, surely it's Taylor!...hmm close but no cigar!

"Whoever it is, he can't be worth pick No.8 though.  That's just sillly" i hear you say.

Well think again fellow minions!!  Another piece in the premiership puzzle awaits...

That was a great call DD. But such great credit to Kozzie to turn that potential into the genuine superstar of the competition he has become. How many players can have great junior careers and highlights reals that actually go on to have the AFL career that Kozzie has had just to date.

Let's all remember this is a guy who had 11 shots on goal against Sydney....11!

Kicked 5.4 but just imagine what could've been....

I reckon as early as this year he will have an 8-9 goal game

Remember when we drafted him and some grumbled that we took him too high? What a great pick he's turned out to be.

And now Jacko and Butters as Dees 4 Life!

Ahhh now our full Casey plan is coming to fruition.

We have been buying up plots of land in Cranbourne I take it?

I’m incredibly proud of Kozzie and the Melbourne Football Club. This is an outstanding outcome, benefiting all parties, not least us passionate supporters. Go Dees ❤️💙!

There are a number of reasons

1- When he has only 1 year left on his contract (next year), we have a lot less leverage

2- Signing him now allows us to plan our cap for the future and know what money we have to offer any free agent or player we would like to chase in the trade period. You'd hate to overpay some B grader from another club only to then not have the money to keep a generational talent like Kosi later on. Also allows us to put extensions to the likes of Lindsay, Langford, Bowey etc.

3- Securing Kosi gives other players we might be chasing the security that we have someone of his quality on our list for the next decade. It makes us a more competitive side, AND it puts to bed a lot of noise around our culture etc. If players of his ilk want to be at the club, it says a lot about the club itself. Don't underestimate how much the Trac debacle last year cost us at the trade table!

4- You strike while the iron is hot. Kosi is obviously happy, loving his footy and playing great. He was willing to talk so you talk. Plus imagine if we wait until next year, the way he's headed he would be worth even more money!

All good reasons and admittedly some weren't the first considerations when I heard about this initially.

The contract landscape is changing and so are club's methods. I'm all for flexibility with moving money around to other parts of the deal.

I do wonder how much more leverage you get with more years and if benefits are offset by larger remaining parts on contracts and clubs not as willing to take it on but that's like balancing the best way to pay off your mortgage and not worth wasting the brain power on.

Ultimately I'm very happy.

Fantastic for Kozzie, the club and supporters. I look forward to his continuing growth as a midfielder

WOOHOO GREAT NEWS!!! Great for MFC great for Kozzy and great for all the little kids who idolize him...such wonderful news 😁

Now let's go get Luke Jackson back and get the band back together!!

Better get to work on that photoshop!

Thinking of all those little Dees fans with #36 on their jumpers, not least of all @dazzledavey36 ’s little fellah whose dad doesn’t have to tell him news that would break his little heart ♥️💙

THANK YOU KOZZIE!

This means so much to us, in so many ways.

Yep. Also puts free agency out of the picture.

Imagine Kozzie continues to steadily improve and clearly becomes a top ten player in the comp, then he exercises his free agency right in 2027 and we get pick 10 or 12 or 14 or some [censored] in compensation.

Wonder who at Freo he texted first....

Jackson. Hey mate we are going to play together next year after all. See you at preseason training.

This is such a big deal for the club. Not just because kozzie is a gun but it signals we’ve moved on from the doubts and cultural issues that have plagued us. A player like kozzie would have been able to get really big dollars anywhere, 9 years says he believes in the club and it’s direction and is also confirmation our welfare in dealing with homesickness and so on is highly effective.

I think the criticism in the media of us jumping at shadows is lazy. We’ve consistently signed out big name players well out from being out of contract, Petracca, Oliver, viney and Gawn are all recent examples. This is simply how we operate as a club and today we got a great result

This is remarkable!

What a win by the club.

We have somehow turned our culture around in 9 months.

Well done to Green and Goodwin and all!!

This week!!

An important move for MFC, I say that Kozzie can be the best small forward in the league very soon and signals that the Dees are serious about being a contender and are not the shambolic hot mess internally like some segments of the media have sought to portray recently.
