If we see 'Gawn linked to New Zealand' articles then we're really in trouble

Looks like re-build will be in full swing whether the footy department like it or not.

What was all that cr@p jotted out after 2021 about not becoming complacent from the coach, ceo & pres?

Thats aged really well. 2022-2024 May as well be titled ‘What not to do: 101’

His trade value has never been higher so good timing on that front

Will miss him but

It’s always ok to say “I’m not ok” Binman.

It 100% has to do with whatever is going on. It’s all to do with timing.

Of course it does - the timing of the baby.

I doubt if that's what you meant but it's the only relevant timing.

Straight swap for Houston?

It’s none of my business, and I could be wrong but perhaps the baby has an illness or maybe mum and dad need familial help otherwise? Having been there and not had help, flying to Adelaide isn’t the same as having someone 30 mins away.

I agree with this. It’s hard to imagine he’s asking to return if everything is ok. I mean Adelaide is kinda close.
But if bubbly isn’t well, definitely need to be close to family

A Melbourne clubman has notified the Demons he would like to leave Victoria at the end of the season for family reasons.

Joint is COOKED!🥶

Most people's favourite player that they didn't realise was their favourite.

Will miss you Nibbler.

That’s not ideal or not great timing by life has a way of doing that

surely top 3 in the b&f this season.

No takers previously thank the lord as helped us win a flag.

He signed on for three more years in April 2023. He'd have known a baby was on the way.

I know a lot can happen in a year and half, hell I was excited to start my new job in June 2023 and now I'm looking for the door. But he'd had ten years on the place prior to signing.

Sorry but somethink stinks. I'm sure his reason is genuine but seems like a "may as well at this point" scenario.

God you have no idea do you

When the media say Trac wants out they are right. When they say ANB isn’t leaving due to what is going on, they are wrong. Don’t you get it?

What ever the reason it doesn’t bode well. I can imagine that he provides a lot of sensible, stabilising influence. He will be a significant loss and very hard to replace. I find it hard to believe he would leave if all was well with the Club. It is likely that a lot of the rumours about our culture are true. A few heads need to be pulled in.

A big loss if this eventuates.  An important leader.  And a great role model. Will most likely be top 5 in the Bluey this year.  But if he wants outs we'll get it done fairly.  Adelaide seems a better fit for him than Port.

BS. Think about requesting a trade this week. This week of all weeks. After JV, Trac have all been linked with moves.

If it was genuine for family reasons make it known once the season ends, heck wait until next week.

To do it now not 1 day after the Trac statement is for all to see.

I strongly suspect that his wife has something to do with this. New mothers often want to be with their family. It would particularly be the case with a footballer because they have to travel interstate, spend long hours at training and club commitments etc.

I'm not blaming his wife at all, mind you. I'm saying, this is probably a very genuine reason for him leaving. And I, and the club, will really miss him. You can't teach that kind of determination and effort.

The baby wasn't even conceived when he signed on if she was born in February 2024.

He requested the trade several weeks ago.  Do try to keep up.

Right because people don’t usually plan for these things.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.
