I still haven’t seen what his weapons are. Great that he has confidence and aggression but for a medium sized player he doesn’t seem to have leg speed, unique evasion skills or innate goal sense. Why was he so on our radar?

What was his preferred position as a junior? I agree with Earl haven't seen any weapon yet or anything to suggest he will be more than an average player

Mutiple players have recently  recommitted to the MFC.

Of the top of my head, that list includes: jeffo, roo  chin, Petty, Windsor, the kolt, AMW (I think) and disco - and I'm probably missing some.

Apply Occam's razor to the question of why so many players, particularly young guns who would def get picked up by other clubs, have decided their medium term future lies with dees.

What is the answer?

I hope Jefferson is only signed until end of 26, as he is a long long way off AFL standard!

It’s a completely reasonable question. You don’t expect your first and second year players to come in and dominate straight away, or even show consistency throughout the season.

What you do expect to see from first round picks are little moments and glimmers of class, passages of play that give you a glimpse into their futures.

Not saying he won’t make it but I haven’t seen any of that yet with Tholstrup. It’s all very blue collar sort of stuff.

I’ve seen enough to suggest that he has a future. Just needs more consistency at the top level, and his pre season stress fractures (back) may well have influenced that.

Barely even blue collar. It's mostly just celebrating with his teammates.

A few on here might need to update their opinions after last weekend. And fair enough too because that was a very pleasant surprise.

Well we know that King seems to be a fan of his. I’ll back his judgement in before anyone on here (myself included)

Proud of his game on the weekend. He fought back well and started to challenge NAS the other way as shown by Jordan Lewis On the Couch. I reckon after quarter time he was told to not be so rigid but losses up and try and get him on the return.

People on here seem to forget he missed the whole of last pre season due to injury and was always behind the eight ball in terms of fitness and then through incompetent coaching was brought straight back into the AFL team off the back of zero match fitness and all that did was set him up to fail.

He would have learnt s great deal playing on NAS in terms if running ability and always staying focused in the moment.

I would certainly like to see him play more midfield minutes and get the ball in his hands as he is actually a very neat user of the footy.

Thought he played considerably well against a top 5 player in the league. And still hurt him the other way, a great start to his season.

Good luck to him but really has done SFA so far.

You’d be pretty crazy to right off a kid of his type selected in the first round by Jason Taylor, not the kind of player he usually gets wrong. Yes there wasn’t a whole lot of talent to choose from at that selection in 2023 but we’re starting to see signs that Kolt has some tricks up his sleeve. Doesn’t need to dominate, and will be a slow burn, but on the weekend we saw he can have good hands in tight, footy IQ when to run and when not to run off NAS, numerous inside 50’s and gets in the right spots to have shots on goal. Pretty tough too.

hes 20 years old, and quelled the influence of an AA midfielder. Id say he did alright. Theres like 1-2 players after pick 13 in that draft that have done anything at all. Id give him a little kudos

Surprise, surprise. Young player takes 2 years and 20+ games to get better.

The Kolt did alright, helped set up a couple of goals, that ground ball get to XL on the run then kick in space to Mihocek was superb team work. Looking forward to seeing who he picks up against Freo. Go the Kolt.

I wish he’d kicked that goal, he had a good day, reckon King and co. are building his confidence with jobs like that. It was always folly to write off the kid.

Like his game and we need some of the younger fringe players like him to put their hand up this year and prove that they are AFL quality.

We are going to come up against team who have a bit more class than us a fair bit this year. If Kole can break even with one of the oppositions best on a regular basis it will be massive for us and for his development.

Such clever work from King with Kolt this weekend. Over the preseason I think many of us, including me, were wondering why he was playing back and then it’s revealed it was to prepare him for the NAS tag for over a month. Super clever. And while Nas had his moments so did Kolt, I just wish he’d kicked that goal and it would’ve been the an excellent tagging game. Onwards and upwards for the Kolt but good to see him add tagged to his game, makes him much more likely to get picked in an increasingly selection process.

Interesting that King and co had him ear marked for this role about a month ago... hence some time down back in the practice matches.

I get the feeling King wouldn't want any player to be a designated stopper in the team - it's about getting the best matchup on the day. So will be interesting to see what role Kolt plays under King when / if he doesn't have a run with role.

Really want to see him make it - I think he has "something" whatever that is. It's amazing with a bit of belief / confidence how players can transform.

Reckon he was harshly judged upon arrival at the club for the wrap around sunnies and the hair but he is maturing into a likely prospect
