Up the middle, that's where the action is!

Always attack an opponent's strengths, not weaknesses. No-one expects you to attack the strongest part of the fort. Take life by its little bunny ears and get in its face, because that my friend is LIVING!

There is one ten seconds passage I that interview where he looks like he is having a turn.

I don't get how Green only says our midfield will have Petracca and Oliver in it next year, not why they had concerns, what was done to alter their situations, or any of the details.

Goodwin comes out with some spiel about enjoying the process as if everything is fine.

Gawn says he can't say but he is annoyed his opinion gets made public.

Lambie comes out and tries to diplomatically talk for the whole club like he is personally responsible for everything, all while refusing to really explain what Petracca's issues really were or give anh details of why Oliver was discussed with other clubs.

And then had to basically admit we are not a destination club.

This reminds me of the time I went to a Casey game and the only drinks they had were VB cans at quarter time.

I mean the take away narrative from that press conference was 'we were a chance to get Houston but due to our own goals and inability to manage leaks we will concentrate on pick 5'

It's interesting watching Tim Lamb think before giving his answers. I respect that. You can tell he is being very prudent with what he says.

Dan Houston losing interest in coming to the Demons is definitely a concern though.

We want to be a "destination Club" for star AFL players.

I suspect the early dialogue with Houston was when the MFC was travelling better on the field - as we started to falter later in the season it was clear we weren’t a contender in 2024. Events since have further compounded the doubts about or future

His cooling and refocusing on other options that appear on the surface a safer bet is not that surprising imo

But do a poll on here and ask if you would prefer Houston or pick 5 and >80% would prefer pick 5 I'd guess

So might be a blessing in disguise?

The sacrificial Lamb in every sense. Gotta feel for him having to stump up for that.

List management it’s a tough gig He de Mon but that’s why they pay him the big bucks, it’s easy bringing in a bunch of happy kids not so when you have a couple of disgruntled stars.

Whilst I agree our comms around tracc and claz has been poor, the length of the two threads has very little to do with the clubs comms and management.

The threads might be partly ABOUT  those issues, but their length is predominantly a result of posters allowing themselves to dance to the tune of the media.

And I don't blame the media in that dynamic. Click bait is demand driven.

What ever happened to just waiting to see how things play out, and as much information as is feasible is in the public domain, before making  assessments, let alone over the top, hair on fire, where there's smoke  henny penny the sky is falling declarations.

I wish people would just chill a bit.

Like I said about the tracc scenario better to deal with agreed facts than rumours, second hand information and the click bait peanuts like Morris want us to swallow and amplify.

And some key agreed facts include:

- mutiple players, including young guns and senior leaders, have extended their contracts in the last few months

- barring an October surprise, tracc, koz and clarry are playing for the dees in 2025

- unlike several other clubs, only ONE key best 22 player, nibbla, is leaving, and for genuine family reasons at that (unlike say noble leaving the pies, Kennedy wanting out of the blues, the battle drama at the dsaints, pearling leaving gws and Houston leaving port)

- Wade Derkson has nominated us as his preferred destination

These facts don't mean there aren't issues that need resolution, or there aren't improvements that need to be made.

But amplifying the media's club in crisis narrative, or taking the opportunity to pot (insert favorite scapegoat here) is part of the problem not part of the solution.

And only hurts the club - a club we all love or else we wouldn't spend so much energy discussing it here.

This is an excellent summary of where we find ourselves... balanced, insightful and clearly put. Thanks for taking the time, binman!

Personally I thought he played it well. He's not at the club to be a media performer. He answered pretty honestly considering what's been going on. Whether he is the right man for the job should always be up for debate but hanging him for that interview....i don't think so. He didn't "Roffey" it.  Feels to me that Pert's walking away unscathed and considering where we find ourselves that's plain wrong imho. I don't think our President and board are up to the job and I hope the reviews point the spotlight firmly in their direction. As for Pert, I hope we're actively looking for a replacement.

It was better that Kate Roffeys interview but in all fairness that wouldn’t be hard!

Particularly the long pause after the question as to whether we were currently an attractive destination club for players seeking a trade. Ouch.

Seems like a very easy question to answer, while also having a little crack at the media. “Depends who you listen to. If you listen to the media, who had us losing Trac, Oliver annd Kozzie this trade period, then no. Internally, we know we are. Our track record shows players are willing to come to us and after speaking with Goody and the team, are excited to be joining us”. “Also… EAD Sam McClure”

Side note: do staff, who are going to speak to the media, do media training? I did a course with a previous employer, that was only a day or two long, that really was worth it. Our post-season interviews have been quite poor so far.

Tim Lamb performed fine in that interview. Tough gig given the Trac and Clarry situations but he dealt with things as well as could be expected in the circumstances.

and i reckon the Dan Houston situation is as much do with the fact we ended up with pick 5 rather than a later pick. Obviously Tim Lamb can't say that in an interview so he had to try to skirt around the question.

Sam McClure is on 3AW carrying on that Clarry will still be traded. I wish he would shut up and focus on the other trades going on. He is so full of it 🤮

For crying out loud champ, people are allowed to hold their club accountable. And very ordinary to call others ‘maggots’ on here as well.

While the media clearly loves stirring the pot about us (I really do hate Sam McClure), there is too much noise for one to stick their head in the sand and think “yeah, everything’s rosy over at Melbourne HQ”.

Whether you like it or not, the fact that all of this information has been leaked out to the media, points to an inability of the club to prevent information leakage.

That’s an issue of the club and certain people privy to information who won’t keep their damn mouths shut.

Firstly thanks for recognising who i am, and as long as the powers that be think that in its context, the use of the word Maggot is suitable, i will use it.

How do you know that all the information has been linked  to the media and not partially contrived or exaggerated, or just lies?

Your last para i agree with, and add, i love MFC because of their Captain, and Viney and all the rest of them. I love their military records and their House and their colours, and i especially love the way they don't submit to any Media.

There’s a difference between being open to a trade and being able to engineer one. Players change their minds all the time. Petty wanted a trade last year, re-signed for four this year, Papley, Ben King etc. If you had an honest poll of player managers 5-10 players at every club would entertain a trade, especially if it was to a club contending.
Things change, which is why if he gets back to his best and we storm back up the ladder we’ll be very grateful both Clarry and Trac were on long term deals.

There’s also the question of whether the reason why Clarry was open to the trade was entirely true.
Was he open to a trade because his management was sniffing it out for six months as per Cornes?

Or was he hurt to find Pert had shopped him around? Per McClure and Morris

Or was the club pushing him out? Per Gleeson and Tohmey.

Or was he just doing a bit of the grass is greener? I love my colleagues and my job but every few months I look around, if I had a manager to do that for more I’d probably do it more, even though I doubt I’d ever leave!

It’s human nature. It doesn’t mean we won’t keep him, that he won’t be happy at MFC as he has been for the rest of his career. And it surprises me anyone doubts how aggressive Geelong has been in getting him, while my quote post was tongue in cheek, no one at Geelong denies any of those actions.

clarry is also very naive, emotionally immature and very suggestible ... it's why he gets impulsively misled and into situations he doesn't handle well off the field ... let's just say he not the deepest thinker.

having said all that awful stuff, he's still basically a shy country boy who can be quite likeable

Ahhhh, pretty sure we made the statement:

Richardson: We’re not trading Clayton. He’s an important member of our team and we look forward to him playing for us in 2025.

Brad Green: Oliver is in our starting midfield in 2025

Tim Lamb: We love Clayton Oliver and are super proud of him. He’s a valuable member of our team and was never up for trade. Goodwin and Richardson are in constant contact with him.

Leigh Montagna: Melbourne need to decide whether they’re in or out on Oliver.

Sam McClure: Melbourne are still trading Oliver.

7 media+ Tohmey: Melbourne and Geelong are fighting about Oliver.

We are the ones that shopped him around, now Tim Lamb says it was never our intention to trade him. (except if we were offered a great deal).

Sadly, we look like hypocrites
