Oliver Trade Rumours

He's contracted. If he wants to go to the Cats, and we decide we'll let him go, then it needs to be a bloody good deal. We hold all the leverage.

I'd be asking for Holmes and a top 10 pick at minimum. Don't give a [censored] how they get the top 10 pick, not our problem. That's the bargain basement price. And we pay $0 of his million dollar salary too.

You want a generational midfielder, you pay the price.

Not according to Morris, as we've let the discussions happen 🤣

Would think they're current first rounder, 15, is going to the Bulldogs as it stands. Future first perhaps?

Give me future first plus Toby Conway or Sam De koning.  No way does a deal get done with a mid to late first round pick

So many rumours, don’t even know what to believe!

Met someone out the other night and randomly mentioned Oliver with out knowing I follow footy/Melbourne and seems he may not have changed his ways still.

again though, could be another person who talks smack.

For me personally, I rather Koz stay over Oliver purely being my favourite player and more exciting

Where does it end?

I want Clarry at Melbourne next season and beyond but it sure is exhausting going through this every year.

It's going to continue next year with Trac, especially if Clarry is traded and we don't make finals again.

This club is allergic to success.

Well I didn’t ’conclude’ that, I said it was possible.

I said it was ‘possible’ because;

- it seemed unusual that Geelong would be speaking to him with the limited trade assets they have IF they didn’t think Melbourne would be open to selling him on the cheap

- he is taking up an enormous chunk of our salary cap for a very long time so if the FD don’t believe he will get back to his best and give us maximum value for that investment then it is reasonable to assume they’d at least explore options to move him on

- the club could reasonably assume that if we were seen to be rushing him out the door in a ‘fire sale’, our members would be livid (akin to Filth members when Grundy and Treloar went) so influecing the narrative to make the decision look more out of our control has benefits

While your listed observations have some limited amount of merit I don’t believe we are about to move Clarry on and make  2/3 $ mill loss on his contract. That would be tiling the members.

Oh and if GFC are interested in Clarry they know their $$ or attitude to obtaining him and are talking to him to see what salary he might be willing to accept especially as they will have to juggle him and Bailey Smith possibly in the trade period coming up.

It doesn’t mean we are going to fire sale Clarry out as you suggest because it looks too tough to keep him or negotiate a fair deal with the Cats who are notoriously light payers to even elite recruits.

Sam DeKoning plus would be a good start.

Would you do Shannon Neale and Sam DeKoning?

Forward back up ruck and key back.

I’d still want a good pick to go with it.

Nup

if Clarry goes I’m done, been a member since 89, the Petracca, Oliver & Kozzie rumblings will be enough

Im disappointed beyond words to see what is happening to the club three years after a premiership

Fair enough Billy, but I won't be leaving my club because some players do, no matter who they are and including Clarry, my favourite player.

I also think the club may know more about our players, than we do from the outside.

Exactly and Trac is also part of the ongoing exhaustion.

Octoberitis is going to wear thin.

I hate favourite players wanting to leave, but if we get compensated with high draft picks, I am wondering if the MFC will be better off in the long run.  We don't really know what is going on in the inner sanctum of the club. Are some players unhappy about some of the off field activities of players and this is what is causing friction ?   We may never know.  But I do know, that in no way, do I want any of my membership going to another club to help pay for one of our ex players.

I try to drum in loyalty and sticking fat with the club through thick and thin to my kids, but this club makes it difficult at times.     Time for the club to start firing a few shots instead of taking them.

Surely his "manager" has some morals. If not he should be deregistered. A contract is a contract entered into by BOTH sides. Why should the Club have to baby sit people who do not honour their committments.

How would Gawny & JV feel having given everything to a Club and people  ><.* *8 $^%& on their face !!!

If MFC "subsidise" his payments then I am following Soccer.

IF it is true then the AFL should be loooking at Geelong player payments (not just now, but over a number of years.

Outside of Max Holmes, there is nothing Geelong can really offer that i'd seriously look at. I'd rather back Clarry in to return to his best form with a full pre-season

2024 Player Reviews: #50 Ben Brown

Coming to Melbourne after seven years as a leading goal kicker at North Melbourne, Brown was well known for his unique, extremely long run up on set shots for goal. After some early setbacks injury wise settled into the full forward position in time to play a big role in the 2021 premiership win with three goals. Unfortunately, the remainder of his time at the club was hampered by injury including the need to undergo knee surgery. He retired from playing football at the end of the season after 4

2024 Player Reviews: #41 Kynan Brown

Brown, the son of former Demon hard nut Nathan Brown, made a couple of cameo appearances as a substitute which included a brilliant run down tackle which may have saved the game against the Kangaroos. Had some outstanding games at VFL level and finished equal sixth in the best & fairest at Casey. AWESOME FOURSOME by Meggs

The rejuvenated Demons out tussled the Tigers by 13 points to make it four wins on the trot on Saturday which means that the slight possibility of a finals appearance remains alive in 2024. This is despite the AFLW handicapping the Demons against their peers yet again (more later). Lots to celebrate as it was Kids Day at Casey Fields and both teams ran onto the ground modelling their Pride jumpers.   Kate Hore won the toss and kicked to the Clyde end. Thankfully, the notorious Casey

    MORE FIERCE by Meggs

We’re back!  Winning the last three matches has recaptured our Demon spirit and, with superstar players returning from rehab, our Season 2024 dreams are not over yet.   So come along 5.05 pm Saturday afternoon to watch this Round 9 ladder-defining match at the Field of Dreams. Expect the Tigers to be fierce, but surely the Demons will be more fierce. Playing conditions are expected to be a dry 15 degrees with a typically gusty Cranbourne wind. THE TRADING CHRONICLES 03

Part 3: Happier Days by Whispering Jack It would be fair to say that when the Melbourne Football Club entered the free agency and trade period earlier this month, its reputation was flagging, if not in tatters. The club was taking a battering in the media and social media over a number of issues, some real and others imaginary and even fabricated, relating to the running of the club, team performance and its culture, a build up that’s been taking place for more than twelve months. IN FRONT by Meggs

In this must-win clash between Melbourne 11th on the ladder and St Kilda 8th, it was the Demons who were in front all day to win in a hard-fought Round 8 clash to make it three in a row to keep theit slim finals chances alive. A good crowd of enthusiastic footy families for week 2 of Pride Round had gathered.  The full pews in the well-appointed RSEA Park grandstand provided excellent viewing.   The Saints won the toss and elected to kick to the southern end favoured by a strong 2-3 g

    THE TRADING CHRONICLES 02

Part 2: Watching grass grow by Whispering Jack Critics of test cricket (and I’m not one of them) will often claim the sport is excruciatingly boring: that following a five day match is much like watching grass grow. However, the longest form of that game has nothing on the first week of the AFL trade period when it comes to inducing sleep among those in the football public who follows this process in its somnolent moments. The week gone by has been no exception. Only two player trades

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Meggs

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised
