PREGAME: Rd 17 vs West Coast

Recommended Posts

Bowey needs to work on his one on one defensive work in the VFL I recon. He is just way too easy to move off the ball and is poor in the air.
Salem in.. not sure who for. Petty out for the Wizard.

Really hope Windsor gets a badly needed rest. He's been terrific.  Could Bowey play on a wing? Jefferson has battled manfully in terrible conditions.  Love to see him get a chance. Body stronger than some think.  Maybe Howes another wing option. Has been excellent today.

Bowey and Howes both played wing at u18 and would be competent there I would have thought. Agree Windsor looks like he needs a rest and I don't really want to see Billings or Hunter coming back into the side.

Salem for Tomlinson if fit.

Howes to a wing for Windsor I'd be happy with.

given how tall meth coke are, wouldn't surprise me to see tomlinson retained

if petty is out it's either time to blood jefferson or fullarton, albeit the latter looking better for being the #1 ruckman at vfl level and if petty is hamstrung then it should be jefferson coming in

i guess we wait and see re fitness of salem and bowey; i wouldn't be rushing either back in

Yep. Hunter was poor. Billings moderate.  Good call on Salem. I think Howes looks like an old fashioned wingman and might be better suited there. Played back but outstanding today. Oozes class but lack of physicality is the issue atm.

Based on what I saw today, the Wizard/ Magician " Jeffo" comes in for either Petty or Fritta!

Love the way Jeffo’s going about it but not sure he’s ready just yet if Petty is good to go. Our forward line is no place for skinny young talls.

Can we get away with 3 talls and 4 smalls down back against the Eagles land of the giants?

Wouldn’t shock me if they keep the 4 talls or go with Howes (who has height but no aerial game) even tho we’ve got better overall players.

If Salem comes in for Woey we could have Rivers follow Reid everywhere and Salo switch on ball.

I think we’ll stick with Sparrow because there’s no other option and I assume the same for Windsor. Howes’ lack of intensity would be a big worry on the wing and Bowser’s lack of size would worry me too.

All of us should. There is a season left for us to make something of.

Not for the Eeyores. They want us to finish bottom 4.

Exactly. 8 games left although probably can only drop 3 at most.

current thinking...

IN: Salem, Jefferson
OUT: Pup Brown, Petty

woey 2.0 back to sub

Same as my post above. I was sure I posted in the Non-MFC Fred..

Fullarton could come in as 2nd ruck and JVR can play a full time CHF role.

If Windsor "needs a rest" does that mean another week off just  after a bye, or a "rest" at Casey??

We should keep the 4 tall defence for the Eagles. If Petty’s ankle does not come up we should play Fullerton. Jefferson is progressing but he is not ready for a McGovern/Barrass combo.  Salem should come in for Woey. I would like to see Bowey trialled on a wing and manage Windsor as sub.

I’d like to see Pup have a full game tagging Reid. Shoulder to shoulder with him. He has the speed and mongrel to take him out of the game.

I just love the inclusion of mongrel - so I'm with you!

Who the [censored] cares about next week beat west coast so what ??    The year was blown tonight by a disgraceful last quarter  OLIVER  VINEY try guts out only to be let down by petty and co.

Thought Langdon could've won it for us, but again he is a terrible shot for goal when he is on the run. He has no composure. Petty kept veering left with his shots on goal. Please get KPF like Roo who take their time to line up and don't toss the ball up as the walk in for a set shot.

It's a big if really. Looks like he's impact on games has dropped off but he may still be meeting his kpi's. The wings can be a hard position to play with lots of unrewarded/under recognised running.

He's a first year player that's played every game which is a huge effort in itself and a credit to him. If he needed a rest, I wouldn't be opposed to giving him the week off from all levels to refresh, but that's just my opinion.

All eyes on Casey. 3 goals + or 8+ marks and Jefferson surely comes in.

Petty let us down big time in front of goals, and whilst he's finding a small amount of form, he's still not playing well.

No interest in seeing Bowey back without a run at Casey. He has been fumbly, poor and somehow undroppable.

Out: Petty, Tomlinson (unlucky but not sure we need 4 talls for West Coast)

In: Jefferson, Salem if fit or Brown for a full game and McAdam to sub.

Jefferson would be monstered physically as a Petty replacement. He is better served being a 3rd tall option allowing his forward craft to shine through.

Tomo is not unlucky! He has big deficits in his game. Mobility being the big one.

If you think there's nothing to play left in this season, or that we're no chance, have a look again at the ladder.

We may be 12th, but we're one win behind 5th, and only 1.5 wins behind 3rd.

We may have a percentage of 99.9%, but 6 of the next 8 sides above us have a percentage under 109% (i.e. within 10% of us).

It's a season of pretty fine margins. Holding on last night and only losing to Fremantle by 60, not 90, would have us 5th and right in the thick of the top 4 race. Hell, holding on last night even with our sub-100% we'd be 7th and a draw behind 3rd.

Yeah while I think we have no chance for the premiership. I want us to grind out the season and hopefully make finals and ideally win a final.

I've done the ladder predictor. I assume we'll drop a few games but have us finishing in the 8. Bombers slide to 9th. 👌

If we play like that and improve a few things to finish games we'll make the 8. Rather have us underdogs in an elimination final. Well smash the eagles this week.

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
