GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

Recommended Posts

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

I'm tired of being the Lions' bunnies. Dreaming of another 60+ win against them but more realistically hoping we win - even if only by a point.  Carn ya red legs!!  ❤💙

Unfortunately Melbourne coaches and recruiters didn’t understand the importance of having a deep midfield.

Brisbane have 10 players that are capable of playing on ball. Dees are lucky to have 5.

they will run rings around us by shear force of numbers. Unfortunately we are 3-4 midfielders off being a decent side

This will be a great challenge especially for the youngsters. Good luck to AMW.

And I hope we win just to give a big F U to all the misery around here lately.

Hear, Hear! I’m with you on this, Zephs!!!

If we win, the big F U might have to wait since the mob of sad-arzes won’t be here coz, well…a win.

If we win I’ll be the first in the postgame thread to celebrate 🎉

If we lose, I’m gonna put a massive bunch of space between me and Demonland coz, well… a loss 😢

GO DEES!!!!

GIVE ‘EM HELL!

❤️💙

Good luck, Monners! 🤞🏽

I'm quietly confident we will lift to the occasion and win a hard fought, gritty and at times spiteful clash against a key rival which we will build on through to September. Bring our contest and pressure and we are a very difficult team to play against.

Hoping to put in our best performance since the St Kilda game and keep the margin very respectable. A win is unlikely for a number of reasons.

However, win next week and there’s a scenario or two that would have us in the 8 at the end of round 17, or at the very least on the borderline.

Moving day. play well (win or close loss) and the commentary may lighten up on us a bit.  ( some here might lighten up on each other, too!(

It’s the start of the ‘backend of the season’ stretch.  I think we have set ourselves for this one.

Keys:  Match them in contest and clearance  = dont allow massive clearance goal scores like they did against Geelong.

Contested in their 50 - slow their transitions and make joe the goose play outside of the 50 for his touches

         Pressure over 190 all game

        Score at least 85 points.

This is the start of the next phase of the season, AMW to get a look in as part of his development, not sure we can play as tall as listed (?Late change?)

W .   Go Dees!

Still not confident of a win, very much the other way. But Lever back in solidifies the backs a bit. I see Tmac giving Max. Rest swinging forward it back where needed.
so perhaps it will not be a 50 point loss, with the back line working.

Monners in for pup   I am disappointed but if they knew it might happen, not concerned re development.

our mids will need to work better. Rivers to stay, he looked a natural in that position. I hope Sparra can come good. Viney is doing too much. And max, hit it to our blokes.
our forwards is why I think we will lose ,

JvR to stay on the ground the whole game, fritta and petty do something.

and Kossy cause mayhem just run anywhere and get clear. If no one else is contesting the mark. Go for it !

Go Dee’s   35-40 pints I think.

If nothing else, this year’s AFL competition has shown that anything can happen on any given day.  Maybe the ‘Footy Gods’ will be smiling on us for a change ……. after all, it must be our bloody turn!  Dees by 3 points.

$5.80? That is crazy. Will be getting some of that.

Do they think we are Nth Melbourne?  I hope someone shows the players that and asks them to show the footy world what they think of that level of disrespect.

Perhaps Sparra to run with Zorko ?

Chin with Ashcroft .
If Oliver tagged too heavily swap him with Kossy.    Is there a plan C or D ?

Just have a crack lads.

Imagine the minds blown if we can pull this off haha. Media wouldn’t know where to rate us anymore (to be fair I wouldn’t know either)

Fritta and Petty do something. Sparrows time to lift.

I have the belief that the situation up in Brisbane is the same as in Port.

Wasted great lists and home ground advantage for years, and the coach could be sacked soon due to lack of finals success. Although Fagan has more credit because at least they got to a GF unlike Port.

I do hope we can contribute to that this week 🤞🏻.

Let's go out there and win!

Give Clarry the support he needs and make give AMW a debut to remember!

Odds are against us but we can do it, go Dees!

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
