Christian Petracca’s 2024 Season Ending Injuries

Do you really believe this [censored]?

Petracca has literally cried talking about how much he loves this club.

Oh c'mon Titan.. you're referencing to a point back in 2021 where we were on the brink of premiership glory 3 years ago.

Obviously things have changed since with our on field performance.  I am no way supporting this whole Petracca could leave but you'd be silly to think that with the way player movement is now days it's not possibly out of the realm.

They are all fair game. I’m almost convinced this is a tactic used against us. I’ve seen many of their players employ this tactic over the years. Cox on Gawn, Maynard on Gus, Moore even tough it was an accident , just doesn’t sit well.

It is a pattern isn't it? Take out one of our best five players in the first quarter so we play one man down for the entire game. We really do have to go after them hard after this.

I don't want to distrust judgement from a doctor, however it was pretty obvious that Christian wasn't close to being right to coming back on. You could see just watching him and the commentators on the radio were shocked and questioning it as he was in clear pain. It is the fault of Petracca and the medicos IMO, however the medicos have let him down.

Claims the Petracca family were/are frustrated or angry with the club are an utter crock. The evidence put forward by Tom Morris and Caro is a total reach:

- The strongest evidence they have is Petracca removed a post from his Instagram account

- They tried to lend weight to their assertions by saying his family were said to be frustrated (Morris) but no reference or source. Caro was much the same but she didn't actually articulate the family were unhappy, just inferred.

Hogwash!

I think we’ve mishandled this and left space for rumours and innuendo whilst also now having football people (the coach, the GM) out over their skis.

What I’d have done:

Appoint Dr Peter Brukner (or similar) in the days after the game for a review to show the clubs total commitment to getting things spot on.

Announce the review (late last week buried in with the footy news cycle) found no significant errors, correct clinical judgment but maybe something like room for process improvement. As well as commend doctors for getting him to hospital.

Back the doctors with the evidence above.

The AFL did review and of course the cynical media still wanted to make a story. They wouldn’t care what the outcome was, it’s all about selling newspapers and getting clicks on social media.

That's not the way we fly. E.G Petracca shaking hands with the thug before the game started.

Eyes of the Mfc and back on the instigator of this injury...Darcy Moore.

Now I'm not calling him out for malicious intent as knees in backs are clearly footy acts.

But are they always necessary. In this case it wasn't necessary at all and did nothing towards the football.

All it did was impeded moores ability to spoil and cause severe injury to one of our best.

If it's such an obvious and natural part of the game, I do wonder how come we don't see more injuries?

Knees should be kept in unless going for a mark. Just out of respect to fellow players and to not create any spinal injuries too.

Because there’s no trust in the AFL, it was seen as just a normal AFL giving something a tick, like they do with missed free kicks.

Load of junk. Moore spoils the ball. He’s jumped to spoil the ball. He can’t detach his knee from his body. It’s always going to go up as he jumps and stay up for protection.

More injuries don’t happen because afl footballers do a heap of weights to build strength and protection. And generally the rounded knees go to the muscles and around the spine and don’t cause any trouble.

Sometimes it will be the ribs and usually that’s either no injury or a week or so out. This kind of injury is rare and that’s all there is too it.

But that is essentially saying we can't trust the AFL but can trust the media.

We have to take it on face value that the assessment and review were within guidelines. Whether those guidelines change as a result of this specific incident is another matter.

If you've ever heard Darcy Moore speak or be interviewed the guy comes across as a totally genuine and thoughtful person.  We should leave the character assisinations to real villains  Dayne Zorko. Come on down.

Correct.  And how would the AFL respond if we did nother review and ignored theirs?  Sunday pm interstate games all 2025 for us.

Could hardly have more muscle mass than Tracc

So your all for putting out the knee out when it's totally unnecessary and tearing a blokes Spleen. Bravo.

Someone points out it's unnecessary and could be avoided and your response is... junk.

Aren't you the voice of reason. Go and take your anger meds.

Sorry mate that's pure B.S  I think we can all agree he's  NOT attempting to mark.

When spoiling you will be trying to get ONE fist ( 99% of the time ) as far through the congestion as possible.  You make your profile effectively as slim as can be.

Here we see Moore doing the opposite. Lifting that knee retards his progress negating the efficiency of the spoil.

No, what you are seeing is opportunistic crash banging to cause hurt.  All eloquently disguises, or not, as a FOOTBALL Act .

Where have we heard that before ??

A defender spoiling - necessary

Jumping - necessary

Raising the knee to jump - necessary

Keeping the knee in a natural position so you don’t just fall in to the back or head of an opponent - necessary

Retroactively analysing a normal part of the game - junk

It wasn't necessary. As mentioned stopped him getting closer to the ball.

You answered your own post.

Four busted ribs, torn spleen and punctured lung normal.....Junk.

I barely no what that means but all I see is Moore jumping to get height and reach over the top of Tracc and potentially Gawn and executing a textbook spoil. Something Lever, May, McDonald do all the time.

You can go watch netball or basketball if you want non contact sports.

I'm not saying it was deliberate but you unlike some seem to understand the biomechanics of the game. In a spoil you want to get close to the ball.....a knee retards this process.

And if it's not necessarily needed what's wrong with questions about doing it when although remote leads to a player hospitalized?

It's not so unreasonable to talk about it.

You think the correct technique to elevate in the air, hold balance and spoil is wrong and makes it harder to spoil?

And instead players should throw themselves in to the air like salmon and not only will they spoil better but they’ll prevent injuries to themselves and others?

Get that info down to the Demons urgently because we keep training with coaches with bags on their back and our players leap and put knees in to the bag. Including the games best contested mark and some of the best key defenders.

Actually email that to all clubs and the AFL because they’ll be very keen on this new and improved way to fly in marking contests. Given it will be supposedly be more effective and won’t result in guys busting knees on landing or crashing in to heads and necks as they fly with no balance or protection

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres
