PREGAME: Rd 12 vs Fremantle

Featured Replies

Petty not fit. Neither McAdam. Windsor needs a rest. Is Turner ready? AMW must be close. Tholstrup well and truly in the frame.

If Petty doesn't get up, does Jeffo get a look in after his bag of 5 today?

No change unless Petty is injured yet again, or Windsor needs a rest.

Hunter did more than enough to keep billings out of the team.

no change unless injuries

I was disappointed in McAdam, but not sure there are better options for his spot.

Petty probably shouldn’t play - sore shoulder and then the foot issue. But the cupboard is bare for key forwards. Jefferson?

No other changes.

McAdam was disappointing but still laid 6 tackles. Another game under his belt should hopefully have him primed for Kings birthday.

This will be a pretty tough game. Freo have their contest game back on track again and their ball movement off half back has really killed teams on the offence.

Petty's foot is obviously cooked so it's looking likely that Ben Brown will come in for him being the only change.

I’d rather give Petty the week off if his foot isn’t 100% and have him ready for kings birthday.

I’d  rather koltyn for McAdam but won’t happen

Goodwin's presser reporting Petty as a rolled ankle. Hopefully that's accurate.

Could I get a second opinion please, Dr. Dazzle?

I heard someone in the crowd at the game also saying Windsor needs a rest.   Do you mean a Bex, a cuppa tea and a good lie down?   If what is meant is playing at Casey that is a nonsense.  A week off doing tapestry?  Will not happen.

If Petty is out injured - IMO BBB is cooked, Jeffo is too raw though just starting to hit his straps at the lower level, Turner still injured (again), Shack just non competitive, FullArton who knows what, where, why - no good answer for another tall forward option.   How did Verrell go today?

I mean this game against the Saints has led us in perfectly for Freo. Know when to go fast and when to be patient with the ball once they setup behind it.

I don't think he needs a rest and don't think Goody has that philosophy as a coach. He's 18, will have quiet games.

Hope the mindset is that this is another ‘business trip’.

Over to Alice to get the job done, just want the four points. Nothing more, nothing less.

Think we're playing Walyalup.

Edit: No we're not

It's my understanding that Freo have never played at Alice Springs, only Darwin. Happy to be corrected.  This gives us a real 'home ground' advantage.  Unlike last year the weather looks fine.

He does appear to be lacking pace and agility. Like his competitive mongrel though.

On a similar vein, I was pleasantly surprised by Tomlinson's agility today.

This is a big game!  Freo are a good team without being outstanding.  very defensive and if its hot and sweaty in Alice it could be very low scoring.

Id say no change at this stage but if it does look like being a slippery ball kind of game, maybe a smaller fwd line is a good idea.

Yep, those kind of conditions don’t sound ideal for either a re-building Petty or a late-career BBB.

Who else though?

If those conditions are that way i think it would be a JVR and Fritta job with smalls around.  Maybe Petracca has more time fwd.  The team balance will be the issue, Woey doesn't look to be a fwd type so he wont come in, so a Tholstrup or Laurie maybe.  Could be a chance for Seston to get a taste.

Alice Springs next weekend 18 ,- 19 degrees.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
