Kosi is definitely leaving Melbourne to go somewhere colder and further away from his family. I hear Trent is already packing his bags too 🙄

The draft concessions will drive the early recruitment. Add in first pick of all Tasmanian juniors. Both the new club and the AFL have been very quiet on this side of things.

I get the feeling that the AFL are not committed to the success of Tasmania in the open cheque book/ draft concessions which has shaped their approach to GCS and GWS

Forget about the players. Get a proper coach. Longmire will be out of contract at end 2025.

I've made a mental note for next time we lose a game

I quite like the NFL model where you can swap draft picks for coaches. In 2000, the Pats gave up 1st, 4th and 5th round draft picks to the Jets for Belichick.

Hmmm what's Goody worth?  (Kidding)

We should have traded Goody after the 2021 flag. Very short sighted of the board.

Just kidding.

Reports suggest more cash and draft concessions for Tassie (rather than free hits at marquee players). Maybe some lessons from the the GC vs GWS approach early days. GWS seemed to do it better;

  • Focussed on setting up the back of house. Old stager as head coach (more figure head) with a succession plan & experienced executive team/goverance
  • Lent heavily on the draft
  • Recruited younger stars from other teams using draft picks
  • Went for less expensive mature age players that would provide leadership and set the standard, vs winning games off their own boot

Tassie is a footy state so they should be able to achieve solvency sooner than the northern clubs.

I trust we will be strategic when Tassie comes in by minimizing our draft capital for that year, and possibly the next.

They can have all of North and Hawthorn’s top end talent who already play four games a year down there. Simples.

We could solve the bye problem by merging North and Hawthorn and sending them to Tasmania.

The bounty of father-son selections would be enough to keep Tassie competitive for decades without actually diminishing the draft pool for the rest of the competition, and keeping it all in the family would also be culturally appropriate to Tasmania.

No one’s leaving a successful club to play in Tasmania

I'm sure the Afl will help them sweeten some deals.

I wonder if there will ever be the Nt crocodiles.

Is 250000 enough people to support one?

We get  somewhat good crowds at our Nt games.

The key and only issue that we are a strong club and team list at the time concessions are granted.

Sides at the lower end of ladder like we were when gws etc came in will be screwed for a decade - like we were in 2010 etc.

CEO first, if they get Brendon Gale great start

Football Manager: an ex Coach Bolton, Al Richarson

Coach: Al Clarkson

You get that right and gives you a chance to lure some top end talent.

Funny, at the time I thought the GC approach of having the majority of the team together the year before playing in the Queensland league would have create a better team cohesion etc.  But it didn't.  Maybe because they we with Ablett who was more about himself than building a team around him. Him being so dominant even on game day meant the team didn't develop.  Where as the GWS went with more team focused experienced players, built a team faster.

Form media report they are looking at the Tassie team being competitive from the start like the entry of Eagles/Crows into the league.  Essentially aiming for a state team to se the foundation and culture.

I would think the starting point would be to look at what teams are “down” now but will have top end talent in the 22-25 age bracket. The next point would be to look at what players are Tassie native or have roots there. It will be difficult to attract those that like the warmth and the beach/surf life, so the lifestyle they’re attracting will be players looking for something different.

The likes of Kozzy aren’t going to be interested in going down there.

A much better list would have been to list one from each club.

If I’m a golfer and love heirloom apples, whiskey, cider and mountain biking, and like the cold, then Tassie FTW. Fishing too.

the thought of surfing there frightens my skinny body

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
