I hope he gets one more chance to grab the cup and run like he just stole something!

Thank you for your service, Pig. Sorry that you and Jake had to deal with all of the Bombers horror, but very glad you both found a home at the Dees and gave your all.

One of the most underrated medium sized defenders to have ever played the game.

Was the exact prototype player that was assigned to the job of nullifying Dusty in his pomp and what glorious jobs he did on him and other quality forwards.

Another thing that has gone unnoticed is that Michael was an All Australian in 2018.

All Australian, Premiership Player in 2021 what a contribution he's made to our footy club.

Keep that snout in the trough for another 3 games Pig we are going to need your expertise and nous.

Been great for us Hibberd, always gives his all. I wonder if he can be given licence to channel his inner Frankston and get involved in some “footy acts” as the media loves to call them. …….. tongue in cheek!

what do you mean mixed feelings?

I guess the whole team must be hurting about Gus, and then combined with the emotions of Hibbos news.

Hopefully the boy can use them as motivation to go all in the next 3 weeks.

Well if we make the grand final it’ll be his 200th and final game. I reckon he won’t leave a single thing on the field that day. Not that he ever did!

What a great contribution he has made to the club. An outstanding 1 on 1 competitor and never once saw him shirk a contest in the red and blue. He is the embodiment of where this club needs to get to with his relentless competitiveness.

He might not have been the most naturally talented player to take the field, but to me he is just about the finest example of what I'd like my kids to aspire to in their sporting pursuits.

And it also sounded like Goodwin had something to do with Hibberds nickname being ‘pig’ during their time at Essendon... And it seems to have carried all the way through.

I’m aware that coach and player are already very tight mates so hope this breeds some more passion within the team.

The way he stood up in our 2021 season when he returned from injury was a huge part of our rock solid defense and of us winning the flag.

Love the Pig Hibbo.

A most worthy bearer of the No.14 and I think whoever next receives the jumper will have big shoes to fill.

A class act Hibberd. Solid characters are critical to the culture and he has been so critical to our defensive set up.

Extra motivation to play for him. Hope your last game is a GF

Love him. He was easily the best rebounding defender in the game circa 2017-18. I remember how good he and Jetta were together in the backline in those days.

He has been a fantastic player for the Demons!

I will definitely miss Michael "Pig" Hibberd. He plays with toughness and determination. I love his hardness and desperation when he plays.

"Pig" will always be remembered as a wonderful Premiership player for the Demons!

We love you mate! 💗

ALL THE BEST PIG! YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A DEMON!!! 🔴🔵👹

Thanks SD.  Nicely put.

Well it ain't very often that this old fart sheds a footy tear.  Think the last time was the flag (tears of joy) and before that watching Tulip leave the ground injured in the 87 prelim, knowing it was his last hoorah.

But yep, that's what watching one of the great defenders announce his retirement does.

I can't speak highly enough off Hibbo.

A player who not only gave his all every time he stepped out at AFL level but who did the same at Casey.

Gave the impression from the outside (and in the huddles at Casey) of a quiet, no nonsense achiever.

The energy and chemisty he must have brought to the group.  Something beyond measure i would think.  No doubt a tough day for all in the four walls.

No wonder the playing group looked a little flat at the open session today (according to a number who attended anyway).

There are good players, great players.  But there are also fabulous characters that come in to a club and appear to make a huge impact on their fellow team mates.  Not just on the field either, but through the spirit they bring and their general demeanour.

Full respect for hibbo.  Will never forget his mad run with cup in hand in 21.  I couldn't stop smiling and laughing.

Thanks for the cup and your amazing contribution.

Long may you run son, long may you run...
