That is overs I would of thought

Yeah I agree, I was expecting it to be a third round that was offered - but depending on where it falls it could be slightly negligible I guess.

With all the fa compensation and draft assistance getting around I don't think draft picks really hold a lot of value.

We might overpay for him, but what does that really mean if it's for a player which won't be ready to play for at least 3 years from now on average is unlikely to make it.

That's overs for McAdam. Harmes netted us a future third rounder, and he's the superior player by every metric. 27 years old, 152 games, premiership player. Beats McAdam in every stat except goal average. We should just be using the Harmes compo pick to get McAdam.

McAdam is a 28 year old who has managed just 50 games, with the most he's ever managed in a season due to injury and form being 15 games. He does play in a part of the ground we're lacking, but he's not worth a second round pick.

That said, just get it done and move on.

Yuck, double that number and it's still overs

Fair enough. Pick in the 30’s. Don’t think that is over paying.

The guy wants to come to us you pay him respect by getting it done. Why haggle to the last few days. Crows still want him so you let it drag out to our peril.

Do we trade our or swans 2nd round pick for next year, who do we expect to finish higher

Melbourne would be backing themselves to finish higher next year and contending. Therefore you'd like to keep the draft pick tied to the Swans and trade ours (on the basis of expected ladder position).

You do realise clubs don’t recruit on useless stats???
please tell me how many players are currently are available to draft that have averaged 2 goals per game in the past 50 games?

even better, please tell me how many players in the league are averaging 2 goals per game?

mccadam is exactly what our forward line needs

Just glad we haven’t coughed up Sydney’s F2. I expect next year to be a fruitful deathride with the Swans losing Mills indefinitely & their dearth of tall defenders.

According to gettable on Trade Radio, we have offered a future second rounder for McAdam.

Seems fair. The potential upside is we trade in a player who could potentially kick 35-40 goals if he can stay injury/suspension free next year and has kicked 60.28 the last 3 years which puts our atrociously inaccurate 2023 squad to absolute shame.

The difference between a future second rounder and third rounder isn't the difference between winning a premiership and handing back the keys to the AFL and closing down for business.

I'm sure Adelaide won't be doing us any favours after the Petty affair.

Trading future draft picks is like playing with free money when you're anticipating a top 6 finish. Especially in the second round. You can always get that draft pick back either via FA exit, trading of players/and or other picks (that years or the next).

My Adelaide Neighbour tells me McAdam is good for 2 goals a game and has a good leap.

Future 2nd is a fair trade.

Future second round is fine. We tend to trade away our second and third round picks to move up at the moment anyway. And we have two second and two third round picks next year already.

I’m a little confused as to why we want him though. Who’s spot is he taking?
Right now our forwardline next year is:

Petty, JVR, Fritsch, Smith, Chandler, Kozzie, ANB

with

Fullarton, Schache, TMac, Brown as tall forward back up and Melksham, Laurie, Spargo, Sestan, Jefferson and possibly even Woey pushing for forwardline spots.

Can you play McAdam, Fritsch, Smith with Petty and JVR? That seems very top heavy. Are we dropping Smith for McAdam? It sure as hell won’t be Fritsch. From what I’ve seen McAdam doesn’t play small? I don’t get it.
I would’ve thought an experienced back up ruck, a power tall forward, a developing key back and some quality skilled mids/wings would be better for our list. But our second future second round pick is nothing, particularly given our holistic approach to pick trades.
So go for it I guess?

Right now we have Petty and Melksham out on long term injuries

McAdam fills a very important need for 2024

He’s not big enough to play Petty’s role. If Petty’s still out come the season it’ll be a bigger player replacing him. If McAdam replaces Petty we’re going very small and putting huge pressure on Max and especially when JVR rucks. I doubt that very much.
If he’s replacing Melksham then Smith goes back to sub? I don’t think you can have all of Fritsch, McAdam and Smith in the same forwardline.

If Petty and Melksham are both in the Grandstand, McAdam will have a job to do.
That will be to kick 2-3 goals a game

Anyone know if we pursued McAdam or he just nominated us? Seemed to come out of the blue....

We obviously pursued him. They don’t nominate unless there is interest.

So you are suggesting that our round one forwardline will be:

JVR (backup ruck duties also), Fritsch, McAdam, Smith, Kozzie, Chandler, ANB.
That’s dynamic for sure, but our field kicking will need to improve markedly because only one maybe two of those players has a remote chance of taking a big contested mark.
