Rain predicted on Sunday.

You can't make this stuff up.

Last year we played in one wet game, Vs Freo at Optus.

This year we've played in 5 wet games, and lost them all.

(I don't count the 90 second 3rq qtr drizzle that occurred in the Richmond game)

Just hope Collingwood beats Essendon....

Grundy's days at the MFC are done.. Play Grundy and we lose.

I'm only saying we should consider giving Max a rest before finals if he is carrying some niggles and earlier results have already fixed our position on the ladder. In that case the result against the Swans would be immaterial. Having Max fully fit and primed for finals is the aim. Grundy is still an excellent ruckman and it is not his fault that the presence of Max has forced him to play a role to which he is unsuited. The experiment was worth a try, but it just didn't work out.

Swans challenging McCartin's 2 week suspension head knock on McAdam despite McAdam copping a depressed cheek bone from the incident.

Longmire also might risk Papley despite injuring his hammy and finals on the horizon. Imagine if he tears it properly in our game.

I hope Papley tears his hamstring from his little toe to his earhole!!

If it is a high hammy it would be more adjacent to another hole

I'm running with the one tall and three medium forward set-up, with Max to visit the forward line where possible. I don't think T-Mac's turning circle cuts it anymore. JVR, Fritsch, Melksham and Smith with Kos, Chandler and Nibbler as the rotating smalls. I don't like JVR one out but I don't think we have much of a choice. The three mediums might make us a little more dynamic. Smith and Melksham can both take a leap too.

Not sure of the Sydney tall forward set-up without Buddy, but Tommo presumedly stays in with the sub options of Grundy, T-Mac or Shack to send Smith to the backline if the three tall backs aren't working. Alternatively, a smaller sub if we think we need more run. I think Hibbo is out with concussion, so not a consideration. This might put Jordon (meh), Harmes ('managed?'), Spargo or Wee Wowey in the frame.

Lots to mull over but I'm expecting some surprises from the MFC in the finals, not so much with selection, but with player's roles switching and a specific game plan with the filth in particular.

McCartin might get the ban reduced to one. No chance he plays.
Papley ripping the thing off the bone in quarter one due to poor management would please me greatly.

Out: Tomlinson, he's done. We could win 1000 in a row with him in the side, that's correlation not causation.
In: Disco Turner!

Out: Laurie
In: Fritsch

Out: Salem (rest)
In: Hibbo

Sub: Laurie or Woey.

With Fritsch in allowing Petracca back on ball and Oliver hopefully building fitness I still think there's a Brayshaw to the wing move with Hunter out and another mid/forward in (Woey, Laurie, JJ) but that seems less likely.

No to Tom McDonald this week. Another run at Casey to build confidence before a finals return if he's up to it.

I think Hibbo is under concussion protocols for this week so isn't available.

JVR takes the front of the pack, Melk takes a sit on him, Fritsch jumps on Melk, Smith leaps on Fritsch and Kossie flies over the top. It’s perfect

And misses it completely. When the ball hits the ground, there’s not a Demon in sight.

Not a fan  ?

I like the idea of a tall as sub. I think it covers an injury to an already small forwardline (or touch wood, Max) and like on the weekend meant we could move Smith to cover gaps. I think TMAC could be sub in replacement of Shac.
Bowey should be nervous, or Laurie could make way for Fritta if fit, Or Woewi.

What's the go with Fritsch?  Is he at full training and ready to go?

I'm in favour of managing a few especially if we can't move from 4th but Fritsch needs match practice if available

A guy at the footy sitting close to us said he spotted Fritta and Harmes amongst a few others doing a training session at Goschs yesterday Macca. He wasn’t sure of the intensity though.

It is obvious we are still trying to settle our forward line. Hence why Josh Schache was given a chance (and unfortunately failed).

I would like to see Tom McDonald play this week against the Swans. Even if it is as the "super sub".

I think we can beat the Swans at the SCG this week. But it will definitely be a massive challenge.

I would leave Tommo back, helping Lever and May to play their intercept roles.

And either TMcD or Smith as starting forwards, the other as sub - with the knowledge that one of them (or possibly JVR) will be subbed out for the other in the second half for player management reasons not necessarily performance.

We'll beat these [censored]

But do we want to? I’d suggest we get 9 goals in front early in the 3rd and then put 15 on the bench. Have a ruck (spargs), one forward (Chandler) and one back (Disco Turner)

Ok, if he isn't ready for Sydney he might be ok for Casey against Footscray the week later (if Casey gets past North this weekend)

Or, they might give him a run against North to get some sort of match practice (again, if he's good to go)

Fritsch is good to go……at least that is what I believe

No mail, just he’s been training and it’s been 2 months…..I mean how long does he need???

I rarely pot MFC players but Laurie was ordinary yesterday, very ordinary, dropped numerous marks, had turnovers from his first four disposals and missed easy kicks which is supposed to be his game. He did some good pressure things in the last and finally hit some targets but he’s out of the team if we’re serious next week. We also need a look at how Fritsch and Melksham work together forward. I imagine it means tweaks to the Kozzie/Chandler/ANB setup and how much we play Trac forward.

Just not true. His first disposal was a score assist (handpass to Melksham in left forward pocket) that resulted in a minor score, literally our first point of the day.

Second highlight also wrong as it implies he hit no target prior to the last quarter when, in fact, he passed cleverly under pressure to Melksham just before half time for a goal assist.

Since you rarely pot our players why would you do so relying on BS?

Kossie was given a licence to fly early in his career.

Time to ground him methinks

I see your point  BUT doesn't it come down to who we would prefer to play in week one... Like Brisbane in Brisbane or Port in Adelaide...?

We will have the advantage of knowing all possible scenarios before our game kicks off. We could face any one of the three teams above us if there are surprise results. We could even get to play the Pies in Melbourne.

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
