Dammit, this is harder than I thought. My first choices are eliminated on technicalities.

Toby Greene appears to have pulled his finger out and done that thing some men do in their 20s - finish adolescence!

Tom Papley; yes he has a face that makes all his goal celebrations look as agro and annoying as an Australian fast bowler (Glen McGrath the only known exception), but it turns out that he's actually a pretyt mild mannered decent person.

Walker is simply too annoying - I'd still dislike him even if he played for us. Martin, Dangerfield and Hawkins would be the shortlist except they are all past their peak.

Ah, I've got a nominee - far from the most annoying player but has a real irritation X factor.

Shai Bolton.

Honorable mention to 'Izakermanis' Rankine who I think is on the cusp of a breakout in both form and annoyance.

Who do you support Pickett?

You don’t like Shai Bolton???
He’s a gun and quite likable I would have thought.

Agree with Walker. He is a tool, but Walker at FF = Dees win the next two flags.

If you don't believe Nick Daicos can play Footy then between all of us there's only ONE that's delusional..... and sorry to be the one pointing it out. ItS YOU. And I'll say that Josh is a Very Good Footy player too.

The "despised" descriptor makes it quite difficult by making it much narrower. So, just like our gameday votes I am going to rate them from 1 - 6, with 6 being the highest priority:

6. Tom Lynch. Our only genuine list hole is a power forward at this peak. And this bloke is a faux-thug, sniper, brilliant forward.

5. Toby Greene. Although now his stupidity and thuggery have diminished, I like watching him more and more.

4. Tom Papley. Worst over-celebrater ever, but a very good (maybe great by the end of his career) footballer.

3. James Sicily. I feel Steven May is just starting his slow decline, and Sicily is a star.

2. Horne-Francis. He did to North what Buckley did to Brisbane and I hate it. And he is a gun, star and 300 game match winning midfielder.

1. Draper.

If he was still playing, Selwood by a mile.

But I would have one of Fyffe at his best, Dusty 2019 version, or the Bont over all of the above.

Toby Greene was shopped around by GWS when Roos was our coach and the no dckihead rule was in full force. I  actually like him because he’s from a tough background and he’s worked really ffing hard to get where he is.

He went to Wesley, one of the most expensive private schools in Melbourne, didn’t he?

From the past ... Carey & Matthews

These days it would have to be Hawkins ... precisely the player we need although he is coming to the end

Jack Riewoldt (in his prime) is another

He’s a great player, but not sure how much I can “like” somebody who bashed the hell out of someone because he was refused service at a nightclub. As for a tough background, I dunno, private school boy who grew up in Ashburton. Not exactly from the dark side of the tracks

Absolute gun for sure.

Quite possible that I only find him irritating because without him we would all be able to safely bid farewell to Richmond for another decade or so! :D

Great ins.

Both will bring excitement and cheers for our supporters and both will lift our group heading into this game.

Our arousal levels will be well and truly off the scale @Binmans PA

But in all seriousness, I think this is a great time to bring Grundy in. I think he'll want so badly to perform, as will Max and the rest of the group. And if he plays well and Max continues his form on the weekend, I can see this turning into a massive positive snowball for us going into finals.

Oliver's inclusion will clearly boost us. Especially Trac and Salem, his best mates. I think we'll really want to perform and stick it to Carlton.

I  hope and trust that Goody has some tactics on how we'll deploy Oliver. Obviously he won't be playing full midfield minutes after his lay-off, but I hope we see him playing some serious time forward. I think that could really excite us as well.

Exciting last few rounds, really hope we can hold onto second spot.

If I get the OP right, you must dislike the player (not just the club), so while I would love a Curnow, I don't hate him. I used to dislike/almost hate Toby (and think alot of his rehabilitation is for media consumption only) so like others Toby. But of the other players I hate, none that I think would make us better going forward, Tex having this season at the Demons would have been good, but can't see that happening in 2024. Hawkins is done, would have fitted the bill a few years ago. Rance would have been a big winner when he was travelling well, loathed the guy, favorite moment was Viney putting him on his ar$e and Dawes' elbow.

How far back to go? Carey and Archer are two that come to mind. God I hated North during that era! Hird is another. I really only ‘hated’ them out of pure jealousy that they had sustained success. Glad the worm has finally turned.

Tarryn Thomas is just the kind of mid we need to complement Jack, Tracc Clarry and Viney. He will be close to best player in comp in two years.

Would have loved Papley straight from Casey. Similarly Oscar Mac as a back up ruck.

Don't hate them but any of our preferred targets Bailey Humphrey, Mac Andrew, Max Holmes and Georgiades would look good in red and blue.

from current day players it has to be Toby Greene or Jordan De Goey.  Greene is a top 5 player in the AFL currently and easily the best in his position.

De Goey would be awesome swapping with Petracca midfield and forward would be juicy.

You can add Errol Gulden to that list

Dayne Zorko - but only to tease and bully him more than once/twice a year - every training session and on game day.
Deep heat in jocks, grippo in hair, oil in boots (and whatever other mean stuff we did in u/16’s)

But seriously- Toby Greene and Tom Stewart (ask a tigers fan if he’s hated!)

Toby Green, Papley or De Goey are opposition players I dislike, whilst admiring their ability at the same time. The positives each of them would bring are obvious.

Have no dislike towards Nick Daicos, love watching him play and the way he opens up the game, him in our side either creating off half back or through the middle would be outstanding.

Anyone who doesn’t rate him, well that says more about them and what they aren’t seeing. Takes a lot of different dynamics to make a sound team

Sadly, Luke Jackson.  I'm still bitter about him leaving.

Obviously the compensation isn't as bad now with Freo effectively crapping the bed and the knives were out for him at the start of the year with his big contract not justifying his output which I was shamelessly grinning about.

Watching the last 3 or 4 matches and and a few others during the year and he has been very very good.

His follow up work, power through the contest and winning some contested ball has been great and his hands are looking really good with some decent contested grabs.

I'll be one of the very few here who'd happily trade the compensation we got for him back as I still rate him as a player.  I'll still never cheer for him again.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
