  • WCE have publicly said they would trade pick 1.
  • WCE and North have almost certainly come up with a solution the delivers Curtain to WCE and leaves Reid to be traded out.
  • No other club can satisfy WCE
  • I hear the MFC feels it does not have room for all its early picks.  In other words, they will be forced to delist players they want to keep.  Far better therefore to trade up.
  • I think the chances of us landing Reid and very high.

North can with pick 2 and 17 (tied to Port Adelaide) for a start off.  That guarantees Curtin to WC and gives them a bonus first rounder.  And that's not even taking into account North's McKay compensation.

Wouldn’t it be better to go into the draft with our boots on and get our fill with 4/5 (whatever that is after dilution - 5/6 , 6/7, etc)

Better risk management, more players

i'm going to make an argument against this...

...if we pick two talented players, they're going to sign the standard two-year deal for picks...

...now let's say they extend that to an initial three-year deal...

...but what guarantee do they have of breaking into a perennial finals side?

in two or three years time they might be frustrated with their lack of opportunity and request a trade for greater opportunity elsewhere; what's the chance we'd get a pick 4 or 5 back for them? i'd say unlikely - at the moment first / second round picks like jefferson (who will need to get ahead of jvr and petty) or laurie (in competition with spargo, chandler) or jordon (sparrow, woewodin, etc.) can't be guaranteed a spot in our side, and they have the added benefit of being part of our system and have, with the exception of jefferson, experienced a 'taste' of senior footy

we're far, far better off putting our eggs in one top basket and backing one player who is considered by champion data to be the best talent and to have the best underage #s since petracca to break into our side quickly and to influence our play

We have a beauty right under our noses in Bailey Laurie.   Needs to be given a good run of consecutive games.  Very clever ball user and decision maker and no I am not his mum or aunty :)

Good to see some posters recognising his talents. I've been going into bat for him recently as I think he has the makings of a solid best 22 player for us. When up and running he will be one of our best ball users.

Haven't read the article but I think the key to getting pick 4 will be a clubs willingness to trade a future pick as well. I think we'll be more than comfortable adding a future first with our swag of picks, can't see Adelaide willing to run that risk.

A flag and pick 4 and 5 would be taking the absolute [censored] and I for one would applaud it. It’ll be a Geelong like highway robbery.

Only years of multiple AAA trading and recruiting can get a club into this position.  Forget Gawn or Track, JT is our most valuable asset.

Adelaide will happily trade 2024 first round pick

they get Scott welshs son

As I mentioned before, we don't have enough room on our list.  MFC only wanted to delist/trade 3, possibly 4.  Now with Melk that could be 5.  Simply the MFC would be forced to delist players that they don't want to or they think are lessor players than what the draft offers.

Yes Taylor has definitely got the midas touch ... he's an absolutely beauty

I can see the club staying in contention for years to come due to his recruiting skills alone

It's a nice position to be in to go either/or ... land Reid (if it doesn't cost too much) or get hold of pick 4 and use picks 4 & 5 to either land 2 excellent prospects or trade the picks for genuine talent (as we've done in the past)

Sometimes we've earmarked and acquired talent (away from the draft) and other times we've acquired experienced talent later on during the trade period

So either/or has worked and will continue working as Taylor is the best in the business

I would think Melksham, Hibbo and possibly Ben Brown will retire. That’s 3 already.
Dunstan won’t get a new deal. JJ will leave. Harmes will also likely go. And Grundy is almost certain to be traded.

We have one rookie upgrade in McVee. How do we only need 3 picks then?

I forgot about him. He does look great but I perhaps wouldn't put him in the same category as Walter in his under-age year. Obviously a lot can change over the course of their top age year.

They may very well go for it, but they run the risk of pulling a Collingwood who infamously traded out their future pick thinking Daicos would go at pick 1.

Collingwood crashed to 17th with GWS the beneficiaries, using their pick 2 on Callaghan. Pies could have had both players with Daicos sliding to pick 4 for various reasons.

You make a good point which no doubt will be considered by our Recruiting and list management teams. A generational talent would be a huge pick up. Reid will be a game breaking type of player.

Getting 2 early picks though would enable us to pick up maybe a replacement for May (getting older)/Tomlinson, eg O'Sullivan and perhaps Spargo if he has 'run his race' with a Watson or a Caddy to replace T McDonald/B Brown.

It's Daniel Turner who gets upgraded in 24, McVee gets upgraded in 25.

They’d also project a late first rounder next year. I have Crom finishing top 4.

Still, they may not want to burn their picks this year for a single early choice, like we clearly do.

Fair call, clearly there are more spots than 3.  We are spending our Bonazza on moving up the draft or perhaps trading for another gun.

Hibberd was about to get another year and Brown has one to run. unless the club changes its mind on Hibbo and Brown wants to retire they will both still be there. Can't see Dunstan or Melksham going on now but Melksham was also about to get another year before Sunday.

Wouldn't the club do the right thing by Melksham and give him another year to support him thru his ACL recovery, even if we put him on the Inactive list?

Edit:  Similarly for Dunstan.  Seems a bit rough to just cut them loose.

I agree if they just cut them loose the optics are very bad. So it's find other jobs within the club or they choose to retire.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
