Or alternatively, one of my posts this morning reads as if I’d already seen the article.

When was it published?!

A flag and pick 4 and 5 would be taking the absolute [censored] and I for one would applaud it. It’ll be a Geelong like highway robbery.

Nah, this isn't even Geelong thing at all.

Tim Lamb and Jason Taylor have absolutely nailed these early round pick swaps for a number of years now starting all the way back with the selection of Oliver.

If a potential premiership is able to snare the best talent in the country then it'll be by far the biggest draft steal in history

Maybe I am the odd one out, but on what I have seen of Humphrey, Reid should be far superior.

We have a beauty right under our noses in Bailey Laurie.   Needs to be given a good run of consecutive games.  Very clever ball user and decision maker and no I am not his mum or aunty :)

I had him gone, but now with his last couple of cameos he is a keeper and other older injured players leaving, will also give him more opportunities.

Best thing for us is McKay stays at North.
Eagles would be afraid they’d take Curtin with Pick 2 if they have up pick 1.

North need to go tall. All their assets, bar Larkey are in the midfield. Phillips, Sheezel, Wardlaw, LDU, Simpkin, Thomas, etc.

And that is why WCE are sweating. If they go Reid, Norf will 100% go Curtin. So if WCE do take Curtin, can we entice Norf to split their pick to 4,5 with their 2nd rounder or future 2nd rounder coming back to us?

It will also depend on what compensation they get from the AFL for McKay as well. If they get pick 3 for example, they are not going to entertain a swap with us unless they can use one of those picks to trade for a mature, contracted player, which is highly unlikely.

Wouldn’t it be better to go into the draft with our boots on and get our fill with 4/5 (whatever that is after dilution - 5/6 , 6/7, etc)

Better risk management, more players

I don't think Tim Lamb and Jason Taylor have ever gone after the best talent they just know exactly what we need and gone after those players. If they do go after Reid then he must be very special.

Am I a bit star struck that Bailey plays a little like Sam Michell. Lacks a bit of pace but has skill and poise to use ball well. Will be great op forward also an on baller or centre of the future.

Think he kicked a long left footer (opposite foot) near to the front of goal in the last quarter, correct me if I am wrong. That's priceless in traffic or on the run. Should be in 23 for next Thursday as sub even in front of JJ.

I agree. Giants used this strategy for years. Just grab as many top ender's as you can. If we nail the picks (eg Oliver), we laugh all the way to the bank  If they want out after a couple seasons e.g. Jackson/Treloar/Hogan you trade them for more early picks. Rinse and repeat.

We have a need for gun mids and a May understudy if we want to extend the premiership window.

They say Karl Langdon is as reliable as Sam Edmund so read into it what you will:

That leaves a lot of familial options.

Sister, cousin, grandma?

Grandma Laurie would make for a cool posting name!

Yes, he looked good and set up a goal or 2.  Maybe one of those players who takes some time to adjust to AFL.

Did enough to hold his spot in the team IMO.

If we snag the flag and Reid… imagine the hate from all the other supporters… I would relish it!

The WCE recruiting boss hinted that they would use pick 1 to pick up several players implying it would be traded.

They converted pick 2 last year into more picks.

So i think it will be on the market.

Do we go for pick 1 or do we go for GC's pick 4 and have 2 early picks? I am thinking 2 early picks. Depends how highly we rate Reid

I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that North will go for Curtin. they have been burnt by the go factor with JHF. They'll be wary of ending up in the same scenario with Curtin. It has to be a big factor in their thinking.

WCE will trade pick 1 and pick up 2 very good prospects, including or excluding Curtin. They'll say to North, you pick up Curtin, develop him for 2 years before he comes home to us. North would want to be pretty sure Curtin won't abscond like JHF.

If North get Pick 3 for McKay, I expect they'll trade Pick 2 & 3 to West Coast for Pick 1 and steak knives (maybe Gaff after all).

This gives North access to Reid, West Coast will take Curtain at 2 and use 3 on another mid. Will leave us in the cold, but I'd be happy if we got Watson.

There is no way they giving pick 2 and 3 for pick 1.

WC would be leaking that story.  I reckon WC take Curtin at 1

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
