The Eagles did trade pick 2 last year. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to convert pick 1 into a couple of top 10 picks. Their list is in shocking state and badly needs to be refreshed. Whether we would want to spend all out capital on one player i'm not sure. Reckon we would be better off taking our picks to the draft.

Take Harley Reid for mine

I think it’s highly likely we go for it and certainly possible West Coast agree to it. It’s almost an identical play to what we tried last year with Essendon’s pick and Humphrey.

Something like:

pick 4, pick 15 and our future first

For pick 1 and a future third

Is mutually beneficial IMO. Eagles get to take Curtin and also get two bonus first rounders to strengthen their rebuild.

And we get to draft the heir apparent to Petracca and Oliver. He will be hitting his prime just as they are slowing down / retiring.

Yes, there’s no guarantees of Reid becoming a star. But the inside bulls have a MUCH higher probability of making it than anyone else.

I'd like to thank Fremantle and Luke Jackson, but also GWS and Richmond. They really came to our aid in a trying circumstances when Freo were getting a run on mid season. Hoping they both make the 8 and lose in the semi's.

Mind you our last Harley didn't end up so well.

I'm getting excited

Rarely do re MFC

Seriously... our drafting has been ok but not stellar in recent years

Hopefully a guy like this can give us a corridor option from time to time

Alright getting a bit excited at the prospect of bringing him in, I do worry selling the farm for P1 and not addressing our glaring need for a KPF. Here’s how I’d attack the trade.

1) Trade Harmes to Essendon for 3rd rounder (46)

2) 46 and Tomlinson to the dogs for 35

3) Package 3 second rounders 23 (freo) 34 (ours) 35 (dogs) & 54 (third round compo for losing Jordan - 2059 draft points to GC for pick 6 - 1751 points, they need their points for their academy boy.

4) 4 & 6 F2 to WCE for 1 & F3

that would leave us 1, our first & 89 as our first 3 picks.

As stated elsewhere Zane Duursma is sleeping in his Casey jumper tonight.

Forget Reid if we have pick 4 Duursma will be the name announced. Watched him on today's live stream from Coburg he is tall, moves well and oozes class. He has trained with us, played 2 Casey games that I can remember and stood out for Vic metro and knows how to kick goals.

Yes -  ZD could be Silk 2. Might be plan A, or plan B. Maybe FD will politely enquire with WC about pick 1 but not sell the farm. It’s great to have options…

With pick 4 looking more and more likely we will be one of probably only 2 teams that could trade with WC. If they want Curtain then there’s no point in them trading for picks lower than 4 as there would be a strong chance Curtain could be gone.
With that in mind it will all depend how highly they rate Curtain- our first two first rounders might be enough to get the deal done.
I'm not in favour of giving up 3 firsts as I think we have a few holes to fill.

No idea about talent (haven’t watched my usual 30 mins of YouTube highlights just yet) but getting Lamb and Taylor the capital to do something like this could be glorious.

That is why we deathride💀 🚴

That’s it. Good pick to have either way. Whether it’s flipped for this Reid kid, or kept and spent on its merits. The Freo pick looks like a good one.

i agree he is a great size and looks good.

I'm not sure we have enough for pick 1.  would 4 and 15 get it done? last couple of years there has been some big offers for the #1 pick.  3 first rounders for Horne-Francis.

If we can, go for it.  But very handy back up plan too.

Jason Taylor has an impeccable record with mids, not just the players we've drafted but the ones he has coveted e.g. Butters, Humphrey. I have total faith he'll have a definite view on Reid and other possibilities like Duursma.  We will actually be in a position to execute on his plan with the Freo pick.

It will be interesting to see where Curtin is expected to fall and that will influence WC. North have a lot of mids and he may appeal to them more than say McKercher, especially if they succeed in their bid for Sanders. They may have two picks before our Freo pick too via McKay.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
