Fact is he's achieved more, is in better form and is more durable than McKay. I'm being sarcastic obviously, but also shows the insanity that Ben McKay is worth anything more than third round compo. Legitimate lunacy he's being considered worth first round compo. Teams looking to spend $800k on Ben McKay should look to spend $300k on Tomlinson for better return instead. Quote
layzie 34,528 Posted July 25, 2023 Posted July 25, 2023 I hate to say it as would others and maybe even some selectors , but he's become a very competent defender and should be playing regularly. Hasn't been easy but he's constantly worked his way into his opportunities. Everything has been earned. 3 Quote

With JVR, Fritta and an occasional resting ruck, we are covered and have Kozzie, Kade and Taj as the small forwards. 3 Quote

Before his injury, Petty was starting to click as a forward, then on his "early" return was shoved into the backline again. There was substantial work put into Petty playing forward and I think it was premature to move him back. The forward line you suggested Redleg, given time playing together, would be very dangerous. We look a stronger unit with both Tommo and Petty in the side. You could easily throw Smith into the mix if we needed to go taller because I think he works hard at ground level. 2 Quote

At first I thought Melksham was a good Sub, but Smith has versatility at both ends and some leg speed. Will be curious to see what the 22 (23) looks like when Fristch is back Quote

highroller 112 Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 no more dropping tommo if Petty wants a game he can find a spot in the forward line Quote
58er 6,872 Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 You can't leave a player as a regular sub week after week. Players must get regular full matches no matter how they perform as a sub. We have had JJ Joel Smith Melky and a couple of others for too long sometimes. Quote

Lord Travis 10,819 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Good news IMO. Our depth is going to be eroded over the next season or two, and Tomlinson has been more than serviceable playing a tall defender role which helps May and Lever be at their best. 3 1 Quote
MrFreeze 2,055 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 (edited) Hopefully he gets the respect he deserves from the FD. I bet he's frustrated with the mixed messages he's been getting, not sure what he could've done differently this year. Edited September 18, 2023 by MrFreeze 12 1 1 Quote
3183 Dee 2,917 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Has to stay - he's been solid this year. Hopefully Daniel Turner goes past him to become 1st choice next year, but Tommo has been able to fit in, no trouble. 1 Quote
Fat Tony 5,337 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Tomlinson had a reasonable season. I think he needs a specific match up (slow) but he is a good kick and I could imagine him with a premiership medal next year. 2 Quote
roy11 4,076 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Correct call, Some curious selection issues this year but still played 9 and allows us to be flexible with Petty/Smith. also gives Turner/Adams time to keep honing their craft 7 Quote

Just need the footy department and coach to show more faith and support. He allows Lever to be a 3rd tall and intercept defender which makes us look better each week. Ps. Still cannot believe umps got conned by the DeKoning swan dive in the first quarter!?!?! Matthew Lloyd would be proud of that fake. 2 Quote
Nascent 9,345 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 (edited) Sensible give our lack of ready to play key position players. Edited September 18, 2023 by Nascent Quote
DeeSpencer 26,675 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 As I said in another thread this isn’t a good decision. He’s soft, moves like treacle and plays without any flair or dare. He can only (barely) match up on 2m donkeys and the game isn’t going to get any slower. Nor are May or Lever going to get any quicker. Key backs have a strong success rate in mature agers and delisted players. Ok, Kye Turner hasn’t worked out, have another go. And above everything I just don’t think Tommo is happy. He wants to play regularly and barring a dramatic form turn around or injury to May and Lever he’s not going to. 2 1 Quote
Ollie fan 3,671 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 I like it. He stiffened up our defence, and who knows, maybe next year they will try Daniel Turner as a KPF? 1 Quote
