Good luck to him but hard to see how he gets a game in Sydneys midfield rotation. They've got far better outside mids and he's not an inside bull or tagger. They've got elite half backs, so he'll likely have to learn how to play half forward flank if he's to get another chance at AFL...

We'll likely get a third round compo pick for him. Fairly useless at draft but could potentially be part of a package to trade up hopefully.

He is young and will get a reasonable contract, so he is not 3rd round. More likely beginning of 2nd round at worst.

I think as a supporter base in general we underestimate Jimmy Jordon’s ability and scope for improvement.

I dare say if he didn’t find himself in the (for him) fortuitous situation where he is an “early” FA, he would not be moving clubs.

I think he’d still be moving, because clubs generally force trades through with out of contract players. But it wouldn’t be for money or length of deal.  It would be a very similar situation with Bedford last year where we matched the contract but couldn’t convince him that he’d get more chances.

I don’t think our coaches made mistakes not playing JJ. Just a reality that you aren’t ready until you’re ready some times. The only other consideration would be could we have moved players out to demonstrate our eagerness to give someone a bigger role. Ie. Moved Spargo last year to help keep Bedford. But I don’t see a on baller to move to keep JJ, especially when he’s going to get a free agent chunk of cash above normal offers.

I think that's very hard to believe.  How did you like his SF game?

We wanted to keep Bedford and we offered him a 3 year contract and were sorry to lose him.  I'd be disappointed if we offered JJ a 3 year contract.

Given the way Essendon and the Saints are rorting things. We should do something with the Swans such as

Swans pay Jordon enough to make it 2nd round compo or similar.

Melbourne returns the compo pick back to the Swans and we trade 13 for 11 and 25 for 23.

Moves our first and second round picks up the draft a bit, if it's a 3rd round pick it's not probably going to be used by MFC anyway.

I think we will be after 11 without giving up 13. Any picks we have or get, from and including 13, will imo, be up for bundling in trade, to get higher picks than 11.

At worst? ND20 at worst?

Prepare to be disappointed

Im thinking outside the box here.

Say we dont have a big fish on the hook and we suddenly have a fair bit of salary cap space - jordan, hibberd, harmes, grundy. Thats well over $1 mil spare

could to benefit us, we trade grundy to swans and say we pay sydney his 600k salary for a year. And even 400k the year after but bringbit forward to next near

they give us pick 11

sydney pays some of that money to jordan and it inflates his value per the comenatory pick we get. So it ends up being a first or end of first round?

jordan wins the most out of this but also sydney get grundy and and extra mil in the cap for a year. Melb get a decent trade value and conpenstation pick for grundy and jordan.

There’s out of the box and then there’s…..

WTF! Do you work for the Swans List team.

650k is a steal for Grundy considering what that [censored] over at Norff is demanding.

As for JJ.

Surprised he found a new home TBH.

We wont get much for him. The Grundy deal is far more serious and its also the AFL love child Sidee Swans.

Won't ND 20 end up about 26-27?

We either get that for a young Premiership player, who has walked through FA, or we get end of 2nd round, which will be about ND 45, unless I am badly miscalculating.

Do you think 45 is fair compensation for JJ?

The flipside is that assuming North get bottom of round 1 for McKay is he rated as one pick difference?

Could be

It's the MFC we are talking about Mr. Leg. AFL will say 4th. After the Brayshaw [censored].

I'll miss him. Liked the kid.

Good honest footballer.

Could be interesting to see Grundy, Harmes and Jordon all wind up at the Swans.  😆

So, it might actually happen.  😁

Why would you trade 13 and 11 for 25 and 23, doesn't make sense. I see us using our 3rd round picks this year for we possibly have up to 8 or 9 delistings or retirements ahead of us. Either we use the fill-in-the-player negotiations swap period for spaces or we upgrade our back-end bundling them for points to snag higher picks.

Think JJ did a number of tagging jobs this year.

No surprise it's the swans, that's the type of mid they look for.  He should do well up there and simply at the moment he's the extra mid that only come sin when someone is out.

Good luck to him, except when playing us.

Perhaps read my post again...

If the compo pick manages to land kynan brown, I’ll be very content. All the best to JJ, was a good pick and no hard feelings. Really hope he’s not boo’ed, but even baker who was delisted copped crowd treatment

I just can’t see end of first round unless Sydney and us get very ‘creative’.

Second round is fair, but the system is stupid so that makes the pick quite late.

Third round isn’t unreasonable if he’s not getting a big wage, but again, system and that draft itself is a mess so let’s hope that isn’t the case so we don’t get pick 55+.

Really the compensation should be the cap space and we should use it to sign a more suitable player. It should be JJ out, McAdam in as both (or neither) should be free agents.

Bummed to see him go.

Great pick up for Sydney, they have the outside class and needed the big inside body to swap out with Parker.

Anyone who says JJ isn't an inside mid hasn't watched VFL over the past 2 years.  This is his best role and was never going to get a crack at it with Clarry, Viney, Trac and Brayshaw.

Watch him for Fantasy next yr!

Paperwork lodged apparently , off to Sydney. No details of length of contract.

For a 22 year old , premiership player 65 games into a career and last game starting 22 in a final. I'd be disappointed with anything less than pick after our second round pick

I reckon it will be a 3rd rounder

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
