Spargo for me, he has to go. Has been a liability for the past 2 weeks.

Gave them all the momentum when he coughed it up so easy in that 2nd quarter. After that, Brisbane went on a complete run on.

Do they bring in Smith as the extra mobile tall or someone like Chandler who is vastly better defensively in terms of tackling and pressure.

Tommo in for Petty. Don't care if he passes fit this week, he needs a spell. Reward Tommo's form for once who was in much better form then Petts.

I’d give Petty a rest and bring in Tomlinson or Smith depending on matchups. Otherwise no change

I think at present we can play BBB or Brodie, probably not both. I think others have said we are not sufficiently fleet of foot in our front half with all of Max, Brodie and Brown playing. Add to that May who is great playing out of the square but gets exposed for mobility up the ground and we look a little slow.

Agree we need to get Petty right and Spargs is struggling. Ins for me are either Smith or Tomlinson and Chandler for Spargs.

To me, it is JVR or Grundy if Brown’s knee holds up

JVR had only 1 kick, 7 handballs, 1 tackle  but  6 score involvements.   8 pressure acts. 7 hit outs   Despite the low raw numbers he contributed.  Would give him another game, especially given no like for like alternative.  he is leaning fast.

Spargo is a very smart player but jeez he can frustrate when he is screaming for the ball and ignores hands so he can then try to bite off a kick or a shot that he literally is incapable of kicking.

He needs to tighten up his decision making around his limitations.

I would bring in Chandler.

Won't happen but would love to see Bowser in his role

Petty out

Tomlinson in

Petty is clearly not right and has been subbed off injured two weeks running. Tomlinson had a career best game before being dropped and has been slaughtering it in the VFL.

Perfect selection. Particularly with a tallish fwd line of Tex, Tilthorpe and Fogarty.

Tomlinson gels well with May and Lever and we’re undefeated when those 3 play together in the same side round 1 2021.

More than happy with Smith as sub.

If Chandler has a good praccy game  then I’d consider him for Spargo, who’s simply not having a good season.

I thought he was fine, he’s just not as good a forward than Brown - which is fine - he’s a kid.

I just would want your no 1 tall in the forward line getting to good spots which I felt BBB did in the first and the last.

JVR and Grundy I don’t feel can learn that in 6 weeks…

TMac a wildcard at this point.

And the thing to add is that the back up ruck role is ‘a forward first’ and I think the FD has finally conceded that.

As much as I love Charlie, he looks really down on confidence at the moment. He is missing passes that he would normally nail. He only gets ~10 touches a game so he can't afford to mess them up. I think Chandler should come in to offer some more dynamic play and allow Spargo to find form in the vfl now.

Tommo for Petty until his back is cherry ripe. We can't afford to have him breakdown in a final like that.

Joel Smith was very impressive and either slips in for Petty depending on match ups or is the sub. He is building!

It's a bit scary for other teams that we still have the best player in the comp to come back in 😏. Fritsch too. McDonald might also get a sniff late.

Joel Smith has staked a claim to be played as a genuine swingman in the best 22. Has looked really good as forward and Backman at times.

I think Joel Smith is the perfect sub player, can cover most of the ground if someone goes down early. Tomlinson for Petty if he cannot get up. Not sure any other changes are needed.

The win was wonderful but next week is the consolidation test. Need a good no stress regulation 20 point win.

No change other than injury.

Hopefully it's decent weather

Adam Tomlinson deserves another chance if Harry Petty is out injured. He has been playing extremely well at VFL level.

I also like the idea of playing Jake Bowey forward instead of Charlie Spargo and have Michael Hibberd (if fit?) take Jake Bowey's place in the backline.

I've got no problems with the chat re Spargo but we need to realise Chandler hasn't been in that good enough form to replace him. Basically, when in the side of late has done nothing to get me excited. Therefore only the one change for me. Tommo for Petty. Petty needs a good rest and then find some form in the Magoos.

Grundy back to main ruck. Gawn isn’t working.

Yeah nah just the one change for mine. Tommo for Petty regardless of how he pulls up. Tommo should’ve never been dropped in the first place so simply righting a previous wrong.

I'd send Woewy back to Casey to work on a few things & bring in Dunstan for a couple of games to see what he has to offer.

Surely what Dunstan offers is known. I can’t see any scenario where Dunstan plays that doesn’t involve Viney being injured at the very least.

Not sure if Jvr gets the nod over Bbb if Grundy comes back. We won't need jvr in the ruck. I think Bbb is the better option.

Agreed, although in saying this would Grundy be a better choice fwd than Jvr? Not sure.

Not that Chandler has excelled but I'd prefer him to Spargo.

Tomlinson for Petty - get him fit

Laurie for spargo

Last swap won't happen and probably won't be popular here, but I rate this kid and reckon he has the tools to take and exceed spargos output as a half-forward. Been impacting at Casey, is excellent and creative by hands and rarely wastes it by foot.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
