Supreme_Demon 4,144 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 An interesting article here regarding Christian Petracca's chances of winning the 2023 Brownlow Medal. For those interested, the link to the article by Damian Barrett can be found here: https://www.afl.com.au/news/968337/barrett-cruel-twist-that-has-star-melbourne-demon-christian-petracca-on-track-for-brownlow-medal I definitely think that Christian Petracca is a smoky to win it. That is the one silver lining of Clayton Oliver being out injured, I guess. Although I would prefer them to steal Brownlow votes from eachother. However, realistically, the Magpies Nick Daicos is probably the clear favourite for the Brownlow. Nevertheless, I am sure Christian and the rest of us here would prefer he wins another Premiership Medallion and a Norm Smith Medal with the Melbourne Football Club. 2 Quote
John Demonic 5,988 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 The betting companies would've payed out all bets on him, if he'd taken the kick outs 4 Quote
McQueen 17,867 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 $6 for the win. As good as Daicos is I reckon there is enough of an element in the football Public and possibly even the umpires minds, that he takes the easy receives and therefore possessions. The kid is a jet, don’t get me wrong. Petracca while looking through my red and blue glasses, is the grunt player and his movement at stoppages and cat like instincts/movements is a pretty compelling example. So at $6, who’s game? 2 Quote
IRW 1,388 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Daicos is a shoe in and deservedly so. Trac is always compromised by Oliver. May should, but won't , get a swag of votes.. 2's and 1's at least Quote

YesitwasaWin4theAges 6,840 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Daicos would have to slow down and Tracc would have to barnstorm home, no C.Oliver would help him no doubt. Keep producing like Saturday night and anything is possible. Quote
david_neitz_is_my_dad 4,084 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 Doubt he will win, Oliver would have pinched the 3's. Daicos has no competition at Collingwood and like the Bont will get votes just for playing Quote
whatwhat say what 23,880 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 i'd be amazed if naicos doesn't win this and the aflca award, which is far greater 'reward' than something awarded by the maggots 1 Quote

gs77 4,616 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 This article is a load of [censored]. We've lost 3 of our last 6 games since Oliver's injury, which will cleave votes off Trac. Our form hasn't been scintillating either in that period, meaning even if Trac has played well, umpires will have cast some of the votes to the opposition. Quote
Willmoy1947 4,261 Posted July 10, 2023 Posted July 10, 2023 At least we know that he is not going to get a recall back from the old country at the end of the home games.... Quote

spirit of norm smith 16,680 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 AFL website update on its Brownlow predictor 30 - Nick Daicos (Collingwood) 27 - Tim Taranto (Richmond) 26 - Lachie Neale (Brisbane) 25 - Jordan Dawson (Adelaide) 24 - Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs) 23 - Zak Butters (Port Adelaide) 23 - Christian Petracca (Melbourne) 1 1 Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,680 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) Trac would have to get votes v Kangas. But he’s likely to pickup too many 1s and 2s and perhaps again not the coveted 3s to win it. He went off on the last quarter v Kangas as a protective move (agree with Goodys move). Perhaps an extra goal or two for the Trac might have been enough to get umps 3 imv. Edited August 7, 2023 by spirit of norm smith O 1 Quote

Bontempelli currently second. 1 1 Quote

Lord Travis 10,819 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) Bont coming home strong and is favourite IMO. Trac in with a chance if he finishes the season strongly with a few 2s and 3s. Viney has been very good since Clarry went down and will get some votes too. If Taranto wins it, then just cancel the award. He's bog average. Racked up some big numbers, but in terms of impact you wouldn't have him in the top 20 midfielders in the league, let alone top 20 players. Definition of an accumulator with no hurt factor. So basically Mitchell 2.0 Bont or Trac deserve it purely for being elite for a long period of time and backing up over and over again (unlike Daicos... not yet at least). Would be thrilled for Bont to win it, he is the most influential player in the game in terms of being able to impact mid and forward. Trac is a close second... if he can kick straight. If Trac kicks a bag or two in the next 3 rounds he could pinch it. We could also have a tie. 1 1 Quote
SFebes 4,884 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 I've said all year that Bont will win it. Another AFL darling....but of course, he is an outstanding player. From memory he did turn the ball over quite a bit in the first half of the season, but the media are always right up his clacker. 2 Quote
