    Or did St Kilda simply not have the rotations and reach by the end due to the fact they had one rotation for three quarters...

    They had 3 players down earlier on the game and could have easily snatched that.

    Bit of a meh feeling to be honest but I'll take the win.

    Kozzie needs some inspiration at Casey ... Spargo could learn heaps at Casey ... Gawn & Grundy are way down on form. We were stretched as a consequence and it did not need to be so.

    To be fair, ANB, Spargo, McVee, Melksham were quiet as well. A few others got the ball a bit but didn't impact

    The rucking combo and the lack of impact around the ground by both is still an issue.  Good conditions for the big-boys too

    And the turnovers!  Far too many given the conditions

    We are playing like a team 6th - 8th, not a supposed premiership contender

    Big test next Friday and only a win will suffice. We've now got a buffer sitting in 4th spot and need to defend that position like a top 4 team should

    Any sort of loss will be unacceptable

    It is a win that doesn't really give an accurate read on where we are at.

    Got plenty of issues and things to work on, will just take the win and live to fight another day for now.

    We have some big issues.

    The rucks were abysmal. 

    Beaten in contested ball.

    How bad is Petty?

    Disposal of Rivers, Brayshaw, Bowey and others a huge concern.

    Saints forward line is dangerous, hence having them sit on the bench for most of the game freed up May to cause havoc. if he had to mind king there is no way he would played as well. it was a win but sadly we do not look like a premiership winning team. Kozzie needs to sit one out, Ben brown was good on the lead, shame we see so little of it. i dont understand the need to bomb it into the forward line constantly, we have proven that we seldom take the mark and our smalls rarely gather the crumbs. Why do we keep doing something that is so wrong.

    When we good, I mean really mouth watering good in the past, our strength was how many players we would get to the contest, tonight we seemed outnumbered in so many occassions. I believe tyhe game plan has changed so dramatically that, the gettting numbers to the contest is no longer a priority.

    To be fair a short break back from Alice in a full 120 minute game in the wet should mean we were fatigued.


    The saints had the short break too but the Eagles are a genuine training run.

    Credit Goodwin for playing Tracc forward and bringing in 3 fresh runners.

    We also allowed the Saints to have a half forward and sat a defender back. In that way we did adsorb and didn’t allow them any easy shots at goal aside from when we coughed it up.

    Defensively: 8/10 for coaching, selection, execution.

    The ball movement all over the ground: 4/10 at best given the Saints surely would’ve been blowing from half time

Elsewhere I've moaned about the non-free to Grundy directly in front of goal when he appeared manhandled by a bouncer.

    Some good stuff in there - Sparrow has grown these last few weeks, young Woey showed promise, May, Lever, Petty and Salem were brilliant and Trac should have gained confidence from that. Brown was better and threatened. Glass half full.

    Fully agree re the commentary. It happens every week. I was ready to throw something at the TV.

    We've played consistently bad football for over a month now!

    Despite their inability to rotate, they had more possessions and tackles than in the fourth quarter.

    I'm confident someone will say we were fatigued.

    I agree I had to mute the game it was embarrassingly one sided commentary.

    No they weren't. They all played yhe their role. Melksham did well, and McVee won most contests.

    There’s quiet and then there’s Kosi.

    He looked scared to get the ball tonight, super fumbly.

    Which is such a let down after last week when he got his hands on it for the first time in a while and butchered it

      The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

      Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds. 
      This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
