May kicks in to the left and close to the centre square with 15 seconds left.. [censored] [censored] [censored] [censored] gotta go closer to the boundary!

Did exactly the same near the end of the third quarter 15 seconds to go. Suns consequently scored equaliser. Give it to Bowser.

Anyway, take the 4 points on the road and be happy with no injuries.

Conditions probably difficult to play in and lot of players looked out on their feet for the last quarter.

We fought incredibly hard in the last 2 mins.

Shame we didn’t do that for the entire game

Hunter’s cooked and Grundy’s a headless chook so there goes our recruits from last year.

Fritsch needs a wake up call.

Chandler’s struggling with his leg, had no explosiveness in the second half.

I thought Oliver had left behind these shocker games in 2020 but he’s had a few this year now.

May and Lever madness bubbling along. Petty could help but he gives no offensive drive and that’s how the ball gets stuck at the wrong end. Disco was really coming in to the game late in the 3rd with some intercept marks, not sure they subbed the right guy.

When a team turns up the pressure and speed and we can’t get the backline set we’re coughing up goals.

And our ball movement just becomes gimmicky or bombing because too few of our players make quick accurate decisions.

Well i can now watch the Johnny Balance Magic Show on the goodship boozalot in a relaxed state regardless of whether it's great, just ok or a giant shizenfest put on to prevent this drunken mob from rioting

Interesting ,that when we play teams with 3 really big blokes we struggle. I think??? Scott (Essendon) may have found the magic formula

We seriously tried to choke ourselves out of the win. Don’t really know how they got there. A mere shadow of a contender at the moment. You pressure us hard at the stoppage and the contest, and our defensive system becomes very very fragile. Dare I say jittery and slow. Congrats to Noah Anderson, phenomenal. Also Jarrod Witts, based on that he might be the best stoppage ruckman in the league. Gotta feel for Bailey Fritsch, his confidence was utterly shot. A lesson to Kade Chandler, JVR and Dan Turner also. Despite the 4 points, hard to draw anything positive

Turner needs to stay in the reserves until he is physically ready. Petty needs to stay in the backline for the remainder of the year and our forward connection and centre work needs a complete overhaul.

Not bad for a team currently on top of the ladder hey. FMD.

Agree, Turner isn't ready. He did a few good things tonight but struggled in the body work.

Ugly win, but thank Jehovah for our core players.

I can only assume Fritsch got dumped by his girlfriend this morning, or one of his pets died.

Was Langdon tagged?

Again, May not playing great, but again, posters here talking about him like he’s the worst player in the league. At least he was getting to the ball, unlike Lever, Fritsch and Ed.

The dearth of centre-clearances continues to astonish. Having said that Rowell and Anderson are both extremely good midfielders. But there’s no point raving about Gawndy if there’s no connection.

Out of Jail.

Agree, but that’s what good teams do!  For the most part we were awful, but g&d got us over the line.  Great relief when the siren sounded.  Now I need something to ease my hoarse throat.

I don’t care how average or otherwise brown has been playing, he needs to come in next week and we keep Petty down back. Having him in the forward line allows JVR and Fritch to play on second and third defenders, much better for forward line balance. And having petty down back shores up the defensive wall.

May had a [censored] game no leadership and panicked all night

He showed leadership in stopping people causing the free to be overturned.

As soon as I saw him with ball in hand I thought we were cooked. He is such a dumb player under pressure.

My kingdom for a fit Salem!

Fritta needs to walk home. He nearly cost us that game in the last. Also goodbye 35 game goal kicking streak.

The biggest frustration with Fritta tonight was he didn’t chase or pressure with intent. If you haven’t touched the ball at least do those and make a difference that way.

Turner needs to bulk up a bit.

Same as me then.

I’d say let the adrenaline wear off a bit more, DeeSpencer.

This is hyperbole.

Fritta don’t do the 1 percenta

What about kicking twice to the left in the dying seconds? That's a killer, could've lost because of that.

I’m struggling to find any positives other than getting the four points for a lucky win. The best I can come up with is that they did beat (a depleted Geelong) at the start of the year.  Pretty poor, scratch that.

Just going to spend the rest of the weekend feeling miserable, as if we had actually lost the game.

The combination of Turner in and Petty forward totally ruined the balance of the team.

When Goodwin tries to get cute bad things tend to happen.

Of course this thread will get stuck into Goodwin.

I thought his decision to put Vinny on Royal was critical. Rachel is absolutely killing us.

AllI thought his decision to put Viney on Rowell was critical. Rowell was absolutely killing us.

Also, a lot of criticism of Oliver in this thread. I thought he was by miles our best player with his effort and reliability under pressure.

Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
