GAMEDAY: Rd 06 vs Richmond

It’s a huge concern that teams can so easily pick their way through our zone with short kicking.

Our mids rely on momentum going forward and they are burning all their matches chasing tail for 20m kick after 20m kick.

We have the best ruckman of the modern era and two of the best mids in the game and our inability to manufacture clearances consistently is woeful.

Still confident we get up. But senior players in Petracca, Lever, Oliver, Gawn all need to seriously pull their finger out.

Only 13 points down. First goal is crucial this quarter.

Tracc in particular... his touch is a bit meh of late and just not where the ball is enough of the time it seems

This team and it's coaches are pathetic.

Agree, to many players do not put in, ABN, Chandler, Hunter, not hungry enough.Gawn, Lever Hibberd seem fit but not match fit…the coaching has been pathetic last two weeks.Overall, team seem in turmoil, lost without real purpose of working together , hopefully second half turn around. Harmes  is a certainty to be recalled , maybe Dunstan to replace Jordon or Sparrow, Both of these need to become far more consistent .Petracca needs to stop lair rising and perform

Oliver is worse tonight.

Literally just handing the footy over to Richmond with his continuing bombing of the ball.

Ok it's only 14 points. We know we can play better.

Our midfield need to seriously lift

Or is this our level at the moment, we are on track to concede another 100 points again, win or loose that’s not finals footy

This is purely a coaching, positional and effort beating we are taking right now.

Same as last week. So predictable. Should Kick the ball on angles and low into the forward line like every other team does against us!

Remarkable that we haven't even thrown Rivers or Pickett in the centre bounce to try and change things up.

100%. Both played centre square with great effect in earlier matches. We trained Kozzie with the mids over summer. Why is he suddenly not being thrown in there anymore where we’re desperate for a spark? He’s not laying tackles inside 50 atm, so try and get him into the game by moving him further up the ground.

We are still bombing it into the forward line and hoping. It doesn’t work.

Where is the work rate to tackle properly and make position?

Our best player has turned it over at least 10 times.

They are controlling the ball and running after we turn it over. How many fumbles have we had, which gifts them the ball?

It’s times like this when a match commissaire would be of use. You’d March down and slap a suitcase full of gorillas down on the table and muster your best 12th Man Hansie Cronjie voice and say “there’s a gorilla, on the table, let’s go” and equalise the obviously corrupt umpiring

“Hello John….”

Damn frustrating game to watch with the performance of the umps and our dreadful disposal.

backs look better with Lever there but they are suffering from the same as the rest of the team because of the Tiger's pressure their disposals are off.

No forward line to speak of. Very dysfunctional. let's try playing an experienced forward sometimes soon.

Mids.... so many superstars and so very little results at the center bounces. Who is our midfield coach??

Work harder at the basics, bring pressure and  look to secure and keep the ball.

We can win this.

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
