If Kozzie stays with us, I wouldn’t think we would be chasing him, given our last list changes.

If Kozzie goes, I would think our Port targets would be Rozee and Butters, though they might be ungettable.

Good news would be a Kozzie multi year contract extension.

Dunno. Good tall forwards are tough to find

DD

I amazes me we have JVR ready to debut and MJ starting on his training wheels plus Tmac BBB, the resting rucks Petty and Adams who has played forward and the Schache about to erupt at his new Club.

oh and Fritta best medium forward in the game. 50 goals plus every year.

Why do we need another tall forward???

So for tall fwds we have 2 kids that have never played, 2 injury prone old blokes and Schache who couldn’t secure a fwd spot in 8 years at the dogs. Oh and 2 rucks who arent fwds

in 2022 lack of tall forwards was our biggest issue.

im hopeful JVR will be a player but we can’t hang out hopes on a kid. And I’m hopeful T Mac can get his body right. But a quality fwd in his early 20’s wound be a good get

Fully agree DD. With JVR I suspect only one of BB and TMac will play consistently and with Schache back it provides the opportunity for Petty to permanently move forward. By the end of 2023 there may not be room for TMac and BB in the side, although both could go on for another couple of years if they are fit.

Another option, but not my preferred one is Petty forward and JVR back.

Can't imagine we would be able to afford him.

But really rate him,has all the attributes to be a very good player.  If we could somehow get him(trading kossie not an option) that would be great!

Rozee has a strong MFC family connection.... would have been good to get him from the start.

(Not that the family thing helped with landing Prestia... although we were a dogs breakfast then)

JVR does not need to go back IMO with Turner Jed Adams developing Tommo available and fitter this year after his first year following ACL  And Tmac could extend his career by going back IMO. Also Schache might grab the spot.

What's his MFC connection?

His extended family, who will remain anonymous here, have been long suffering Demon people. Sitting in the same seats on level 1 on the wing of the Olympic stand for as long as I can remember…. that’s all you’ll get from me on this one.

Currently toiling away from the SANFL after starting his career off well. Kicked 32 goals in just his second AFL season. Talls are he'll be assessing his options at years end with a few Vic clubs interested.

He's 191cm tall forward who plays more of 3rd option.

Everyone remembers our significant interest in the 2020 draft where we were hoping he'd slip to our second pick (Trent Rivers pick).

If our next three years are Gawn, Fritsch, and JVR in the forward line. I am trying to think what we need to compliment that. To me, Brown is perfect for this year because he is a lead up tall who can cause a contest. Move it quick and he will kick a few.

Georgiades is similar to that while not being that big body (9cms shorter than BBB).

Keep an iron in the fire but our options open.

OOC this year.

If he leaves Port WCE would be the most likely.  He is from WA and WCE tried to get him as part of the first Rioli deal but was in contract and Port wouldn't trade him.

Great hands but set-shots very iffy. Working with chocco might help in that regard. Not entirely sure we need him given we have Fritsch and JVR and Jefferson showing early promise, but worth discussing for sure.

rpfc - still not sold on Max being included as a tall forward on a permanent / regular basis, but with TMc and BBB looking closer to the end we do have  Jefferson developing OK at Casey, and Shack in similar age demographics as Georgiades.
I wouldn’t discard interest completely, but not to me a top priority.

Smalls. Kozzy, Chandler and a Papley/Weightman type that can hit the foot of the Gawn and JVR contests. We'll still need the ANBs and Spargos, but that's where we could really excel.

Unless of course, we landed someone like Ben King, leaving Max able to play forward or behind the ball, in tandem with Grundy.

JVR, Jefferson and Sestan developing, Brown and McDonald both contracted for another year plus Schache showing promising early VFL form.

I think Georgiades is talented, but don't see him as a priority.

It would have to be a cheap trade to bring in any player who wasn't going to replace someone in our best 23.

What would they ask for in trade? I'm guessing they would want Freos second rounder and we would offer our second round pick. I'm not sure I would do it and would rather load up on kids this year.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
