From stingy Demons to high scoring Demons. We’ve kicked a league high 70 goals in the first month, next best Pies with 59.

Should it be relevant that the part of the ball that is being touched is already over the line?

No. It's a bit like tennis. The entire ball has to be over the line, otherwise it's "in".

Bizarre game to watch live. Very stop start and scrappy. Clearly WC were trying to drag us down to their own level and make it a low scoring game. I thought we handled the situation very well with a balanced disciplined team performance and still managed to pile on goals. Very few passengers to be seen.

Absolutely agree still doing his job, and I also believe he is underrated. But his sloppiness is so stark it stands out.

The Eagles were woeful, really bad.  As poor as we were in 2012/13.  Their skills were shocking and they turned the ball over all game

They gave us no real opposition but you take the percentage booster and look ahead to Essendon.

The match was riddled with mistakes and resembled a bruise-free training run with skill levels below par

If we had brought our best we could have won by 20+ goals such is the gulf between the 2 sides right now

We really are blessed with a great list so it was nice to cruise to a 10 goal with no injuries coming out of the game

Bring on the Bombers but we are quite capable of blowing Essendon out of the water early.  Goodwin will be emphasising that we need to start well next week

Selection will be interesting again with a number of players in contention for instance, the MC will be itching to see Howes in the seniors sooner or later.  No spot for him right now but he's putting the pressure on

And the pressure remains for those who don't want to exit the team.  New territory for a club like ours but after following the fortunes of the best teams from the past, real player depth is never an issue.  It's what the club should always be working towards (real player depth)

For instance, Jordon gets dropped from the 22, comes on as the sub with a quarter to go, then gets involved with 8 possessions as a reminder to the selectors.  All good

I only punt little bets on Dee games and players but must admit I cashed out BBB for Coleman. Won 71 cents. Do I qualify yet as a high roller.

@Jaded No Moreand @BritishDemonFan in his presser Goodwin described Hibberd as our only injury concern and said he got subbed out because of soreness in the achillies again. He noted we had a short week to next Saturdays game so would need to be assessed.

If I read goody's comments right, hibbo won't be playing next game.

Unless it is miraculous, thats what I read into it too.

Almost like "it's minor but it has repeated instead of settled after first occurance, so our course of management/treatment will likely change, but until we review I can't confirm what that means".

Frustrating game but....

  • Eagles went in with a plan to clog up the game and contest
  • We ground it out despite some poor umpiring and lots of fumbles
  • Our tackle numbers were great and we pressured them all game
  • We worked our way through it and did what good teams do - strangle them slowly when we're not playing well
  • Our winning average at Optus Stadium dropped
  • Grundy working his way into some good form
  • Fwd line efficiency was good
  • We are a much more flexible and unpredictable side now

4 points no injuries percentage boost away from home, move on.

This is massive for us and hope the difference this year.

Compared to 7 commentators they are heaven.

I always watch fox footy coverage as ch7s "hd" is a joke and hate it when they cross to ch7 commentators. Must be the deal they made the last time they had the broadcasting deal that channel 7 commentators and must be used when aired on channel 7, I believe this changes from next year does it not?

Does anyone even know who the score reviewers are? They've never explained who it is making these decisions, are they actually umpires/officials? No one knows.

Having said that I think it was a point.

Someone called into ABC radio anonymously a few years ago and said the goal reviewer was any low paid employee of the AFL that was rostered for that game.  No expertise, qualifications etc.  The caller knew because there mate did it over the weekend and apparently just kind of winged it. Wouldn't surprise me if it was and still is like this.

Would not get carried away with a win against a completely undermanned side but you can only play against what is there, so,

I still stand by my statement that Viney has no football IQ and the first half showed that but in the second half he did what he did back in late 21 and through out the finals series see ball get ball and pass it off no thinking plays a lot better and does hurt sides when he does this.

Brayshaw, not sure what is going on there, seems to be either not happy he's playing H/B or confidence is down seems to be second guessing what he wants to do with the ball.

McVee, getting better and better, Salam might spend some time at Casey if he keeps improving ( adds that Hunt speed ).

Tmac, not much competition against him and the ground suited him, still backup for me.

Chandler, well here is a surprise on how he has come on, makes good decisions always thinking of the next move, good goal sense.

Kossie, I am one who believes his best position is in the Forward line, not sure he can handle the heat in the middle on a regular basis.

JVR love the fact that he crashes the packs hard chases at full pace, but needs work on his marking, he need to keep his hands forward not bent backwards in trying to mark it causes to lack of strength in the hands, but still like him there.

Petty, bit at sea but the way they brought the ball in no wonder, when all your forwards fly at once you don't have much hope, the forward line still needs a lot of work, cannot fathom why when the ball is around the H/F line everyone stands still move for heavens sake open it up, learn to make holes, take your opponent out of the area.  Is it worth persevering only if they change the set up.

Grundy, played against well not their best, but the best part of it for me, he got great game time and fitness time will only get better.

If Hibbo is injured, and after watching Casey Disco would have to come in and would be a good replacement.

One thing I was happy about there was several times that 2-3 players held back on the backline so when the eagles the ball chipped around in the backline, players were there, not to give them a chance to move it on quickly.

I would love to see a change in set up in the forward line, instead of all lining up like ducks in a row take the H/F's further out, same with pockets creates a hole, can give you multiple aiming points, radical I know but we don't have a real power marking forwards.

The second half the Eagles stated to run out of steam and class but like some of there young ones.

Spargo's goal is a good example of a great movement inside our FWD 50. JVR took the defender to the deep pocket out of the goal squad and so did Petty/TMac. There was a lot of space for our HF and Smalls to mark the ball right in front of goal.

Just read a match review that deadset described Lever as a “high profile recruit”. He’s in his sixth season at the club ffs. Twice as long as he was at the fruit tingles.

its akin to referring to “ex-Bomber” Michael Hibberd or “Number 2 draft pick” Christian Petracca.

Was Jack Watts ever NOT called "Number 1 Draft Pick"? - even when he was at Port Adelaide they reeled that one out. I guess that's partially on him because he never did anything to make a name for himself apart from be a high pick.

I never heard anyone referred to or maligned as a number 1 pick as much as Jack Watts.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
