Good luck JVR

Great news, Good Luck JVR you have certainly earnt it.!!!!!!

I always love a debut, but this one seems extra special!  Good luck young man.  Go out and do yourself and the MFC proud.

This is the most excited I have been for a debut since Trac was picked.

The kid has some serious courage in the way he launches at the pill and the ability to split open packs.

I would have played him Rd 1 ahead of both BBB and TMac as he contests so hard in the air and on the ground as well where the elder statesman (BBB especially) add little value once the ball hits the turf.

I've been impressed with BBB's ability to snag some opportunistic goals this year, however he still plays like a flanker and gets moved under a high ball so easily which gets frustrating.  TMac has really struggled from what I have seen as well.

This kid is an old school, pack hitting CHF and I can't wait to see him develop with us.

Not expecting much in his first few games however but I really believe he'll be a jet for us long term.

I'm tearing up my Grand Prix ticket and going to the G instead now.

How good is this? Tear them a new one Rooey!

(I was always going to the G anyway, but added incentive)

Goodwin on van Rooyed debut:

"He's trained with these guys for a few years now, so he's got pretty good cohesion with this group already, and one thing you'll see from big Rooey is his ability to compete aerially," Goodwin said.

"He goes at the ball hard, he creates a contest and his follow-up at ground level is exceptional.

"We won't be asking him to do too much other than that for us."

Nice way to keep expectations of him realistic.

JvR effectively replaces Max in our fwd line so we won't need Grundy for that role.  TMac is there to help Grundy ruck at CB and fwd 50.   And to be our marking target when exiting our d50.  It helps that if Ladhams is out, Sydney have no experienced ruckman.

We will miss Max's towering presence but reckon we have his role covered.

This is the best!!  See you at the G, IHW!!!

Might be time to become Rooy11

Going to be very special seeing the #2 run out on the G again. Hopefully Jonesy can hand him his jumper.

This is what I'm talking about!

Hope Sunday is reminiscent of the legendary Greg Parke's first game.

Great memories there!  Loved Greg Parke!  He was a copper during the week, and controlled traffic at CHF of Sat arvo!  (Great to hear the dulcet sounds of Tony Charlton's commentary, too!)

Yes, a debut like that for our new debutante would be wonderful!

I'm really looking forward to the video where it gets announced he's debuting. He's been really positive in simlar videos in the last few weeks when others have made their debut in front of him which understandably would have been tough personally whilst he bides his time. He well and truly deserves his moment with the boys making a fuss and getting around him.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
