It’s clear, if you look at my tips, I know absolutely nothing about football.

thought I did but I do better taking the opposite,

but I have followed the Dees for more than 67 years.  Is that an excuse or just a reason. Eff it I hope we beat Sydney

My tipping has started terribly. Thinking of quitting.

It will definitely be interesting if we play Judd McVee on Tom Papley.

Hope the Demons come out "breathing fire" against the Swans for two reasons.

Firstly, to respond to the disappointing loss to the Lions.

Secondly, as a bit of "pay back" for losing to the Swans in the finals last season.

That would be nice to pay back the Swans but I thought we were going to do the same last night.

Just play JVR.. seriously, he's done his time and deserves reward ahead of the likes of Melksham.

Another undeserved Melksham drive-by. He ain’t keeping your boy out.

Not any of your boys (generally waving at the rest of Demonland). Literally just played the worst role for the first two weeks that there is in the team; come on for 25 minutes to make an impact in a blowout, and… replace our generational AA ruckman and Captain…

I have had my own critique of selection the last two years - but Jake doesn’t rate a mention in the Table of (dis)Contents…

He didn’t “replace” Gawn. He was subbed in but it’s not like we asked him to play ruck.

He played 3.5 quarters in his preferred forward role. He had no influence. It’s a minor spot in the 23 but if there are others at Casey in form it’s hard to justify Melksham getting another game ahead of them.

I realise Harmes and Melksham aren’t popular right now, but surely you can squeeze them into the Casey team W’DEE.

If you go back to my post last week before the round 1 game you'll find that I mentioned that Melksham is a smart option for the sub purely because he has the ability to kick quick goals.

He came on 5 minutes into the first quarter and had absolutely zero impact on the game. Not sure why you're bringing the whole "he replaced Max" , because he didn't? Grundy replaced Max. Its not like he came in to replace the actual position. That's not the way the sub should be judged on.

After watching Casey yesterday it's reassured to me that it's time we start focusing on the likes of Laurie, JVR, Jordon and even AMW (who was pretty impressive) as options moving forward.

Melks is great to bring on in the second half when he's fresh and the opposition are starting to tire. He doesn't have the legs for a full game anymore as we saw on Friday night.

He very classy though. Took his goal against the doggies from outside the 50 brilliantly. I don't think we have anyone else on our list that would have nailed that kick.

What we’re seeing at present is the advent of the elite young player coming in and playing well from the get go - Nick Daicos, Harry Sheezel, Will Ashcroft, Cam McKenzie and Mattaes Phillipou. They’re all medium sized midfield types (although not necessarily playing there yet at this level).

Jacob van Rooyen is a key position player with a season of VFL behind him and before that, a few WAFL games. He has to be rewarded with an AFL debut very soon and if it’s true that Schache is out with concussion, next week against Sydney is the time to make it happen.

They should just pull the trigger on JVR.

It was obvious that we will need someone to support Grundy.  Tmcd is not a relief ruckman any more. He’s physically not in great shape (imv) and was pushed aside too easily by the Lions both in the ruck and as a key forward.  Thought it might be Schache for a few weeks but given he’s out for next week, fully support the JVR call up.

I agree RPFC selecting underdone players on reputation alone is not good form

We must reward VFL players on form   Hibbo to come back!

Schache is out due to concussion. Before he was injured he was a definite In for next week. Now it’s down to Smith or JVR. This is according to JVR who told one of our DA members after the match today.

I love the look of JVR. But I want him bought in in the right way also. I guess the question has to be,  is giving JVR 2nd ruck duties just too much on debut? I watched him rucking for casey and can’t see that’s anywhere near his 1 wood. Id love to see him debut as a forward and perhaps take the throw ins in the fwd line.. but if he’s in the centre square that feels like a recipe for a mauling. you have no doubt seen more of him and know a bit about his character …what’s your opinion WCW?

They still may bring in JVR for Gawn and keep McDonald as the 2nd ruckman.

yes, true. It’s probably how it will go. Our ruck strength is suddenly a weakness. Neither Grundy or Tmac seem currently fit enough for the role. Trac and clarry etc gonna have to start reading opposition ruckman for the next 4-6.

JVR won’t do much rucking. Grundy will ruck 80% of the game with TMac helping him (if his foot holds out). JVR might take the forward ruck contests here and there and maybe one or two centre contests. But he won’t ruck.
He will play forward to allow Tmac to help in the ruck (which is a terrible idea with his foot, but Schache being concussed doesn’t leave us with any other option).

Interesting how some Melbourne players get targeted for poor form more than others.  In my opinion pretty much most players had a shocker the other night.

Have no idea who the ins and outs will be this coming week.  I just want a ‘champion team’ (as opposed to ‘individual champions’) with the right mindset turning up this time round and play a fast attacking style of footy.

Cameron took one mark and kicked 2 goals, one a mid air volley. Being the amount and quality of ball that went in the Lions forwardline I would possibly argue McVee won the match up or halved it.

No defender would have stopped the Cameron lead out mark and goal.

May to replace Tomlinson but Petty should be on notice for his poor start to the year.

JVR to replace Gawn.

Jordon to replace Harmes

Hibberd to replace McVee if they want some seniority back in the side.

Laurie or Dunstan to replace Melksham as sub.

Next week and the Collingwood game are benchmark games IMO to see if we’re able to compete with the elite of the comp. I think we’ll learn a bit about our side next week, even with Gawn out.

That's my concern also.  You're giving a young player his first game and asking him to play in a position he's barely played in

I would very much consider Hibberd to take on Papley.

He has to come in.

36 touches in the VFL.

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
