Youโ€™d imagine Brisbane will be fired up after their Round 1 shocker. Big game.ย

Pickett will miss. He has to. Maybe Melksham takes his spot?

This.ย
Canโ€™t see us risking May or Salemย

I would have thought that Laurie would be more likely to be replaced in the team.

ย

Kozzy, Laurie, Hunter and Tomlinson out

Viney, Salem, Fritsch and May in.ย

Bring it on! Anyone, anytime, any place!

Out: Tomlinson (stiff because he was good), Pickett

In: May, Fritsch

I'm thinking this. Probably have May rest another week, especially given how well Tommo played.

Some serious selection headaches coming up though and isn't that just grand.

  • If May is available, then sadly it will have to be Tommo that misses, though he'd travel to Bne as an emergency.
  • If only one of Viney or Fritsch is available then he would replace Kozzie. If Kozzie escapes suspension then Laurie misses.
  • If both are available available then both Kozzie and Laurie miss. If Kozzie isn't suspended, and both Viney and Fritsch are available then it's Laurie and Melksham and some other unlucky player gets moved to sub.

I don't think Salem will be available next week.

It'd be good to give Laurie another game. Though he only had 4 possessions, he was involved in a sweet bit of play in the third quarter, exactly 5 seconds after I told my brother "I haven't seen Laurie much, I think he'll be subbed" ony to be rebuked "You mean that kid". But with quality returning players, we can't really do anything else.

ย

May won't play next week.

In Fritsch out Laurie

Pickett will cop a fine.

No need to rush Viney and May.

Salem would have to have a run at Casey wouldn't he? It's been a lomg journey. Thinking Fritta maybe also at game in the Magoos

Viney in, for Kossie, Melksham for Laurie and then a ? on the Sub

Geez wouldnโ€™t it be nice to send the lions to 0-2 after they have been hyped up all summerย

Let's bulk the midfield.

I'm tired and making no sense, goodnight all Go Dees!

Harmes worked hard. He wonโ€™t be droppedย

Harmes is the real worry for me to be honest.ย

He started the game straight into the guts but was barely sighted at times.

With Viney out and given the opportunity for more midfield minutes he only finished with 15 disposals. Seemed to fumble a lot last night and had little influence around the contests.

When Viney is fit and ready to then he comes straight back in. I think Harmes is most vulnerable here to lose his spot to him.

What?!

I have said it through the pre season I am out on my own on Demonland with my views on Hunter and he did nothing last night to convince me he should be playing in front of some of our young players or even Harmes on last nights form. And if Salem is fit I am definitely playing him in front of Hunter, just my thoughts.ย

I donโ€™t expect Hunter to be dropped but I would.ย

Sparrow too. Itโ€™s odd being judgemental for a team that started like that but thatโ€™s selection with 4 of our best 8 players out.

Harmes had 42 pressure acts which is exceptional. Next best was Kossie with 30. Your views on Harmes are no longer objective.ย

Saw this about five seconds after I saw that Daniel Rich had eighteen (18!) rebound 50s, about 40% of the Lion's total. I'd say Harmes has a definite job to do. I'd also argue that 'negating half-forward' has always been his destiny and we shouldn't be worrying about making him a midfielder.

And now I'm going to mention his long kick to Fritsch at the pivotal moment of the 21 grand final. Why? Why not - do I need a reason?ย ๐Ÿ˜„

The VFL premiership player was recruited from Werribee to alleviate Melbourneโ€™s forward line woes and give a chop out in the ruck, but he managed only five senior matches in his first season at the club. At times, he was a dominant force at VFL level.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #44 Luker Kentfield

An exciting young key forward, Kentfield was selected in the 2024 mid-season draft but has yet to make his AFL debut. He was sidelined by a severe bout of pneumonia over the summer, which consequently limited his pre-season. Upon his return a month into the season, he commenced in defence but ultimately impressed with his progress at Casey, particularly in the latter part of the season as a strong marking goal kicking forward.

  • AFLW REPORT: West Coast

Melbourneโ€™s response to last weekโ€™s heartbreak was emphatic, as the Demons delivered a statement win over West Coast at a windswept Casey Fields. All of the pre-match hype surrounded the coachโ€™s box matchup of Mick Stinear up against his apprentice, Daisy Pearce along with the gloomy weather forecast.ย In the end, it was less about tactical chess and more about Melbourneโ€™s relentless execution. With rain looming, the DeeArmy and early birds snapped up the best undercover viewing spots.

  • AFLW REPORT: Port Adelaide

Well, that was a shock. The Demons 4-game unbeaten run came to a grinding halt in a tense, scrappy affair at the sunny, windy Alberton Oval, with the Power holding on for a 2-point win. The Dees had their chancesโ€”plenty of themโ€”but couldn't convert when it mattered most. Portโ€™s tackling pressure rattled the Dees, triggering a fumble frenzy and surprising lack of composure from seasoned players.
