  • Demonland changed the title to Collingwood image ‘raising eyebrows and questions’

Posted (edited)

Agree ET, I think that both De Goey’s posted video and the picture posted here are both inappropriate.

I am of the opinion that in the current world of political correctness, we have gone too far the other way as a result of the ignorance that we as a society held on to for far too long.

Do I think that this image should be called out? Yes. Not because it’s a disrespectful act on a woman, but because it’s a disrespectful act on a person.

What does posting this picture on a public forum try and achieve? Do as you like, so long as you keep it private and not for the whole world to see.

Thanks Ethan, a number of interesting and important issues here.

However, I shall make no comment because I cannot stand Rita Panahi - a sanctimonious, headline hunting, self righteous excuse for a journalist whose carping adds little to any serious debate and whose sole raison d'être appears to be promulgating the views of her political masters.

She is soooo far right it’s ridiculous. Sky News is the Australian equivalent of Fox News in the States.

I guess it depends on what offends you.

If your red line is that women shouldn't be sexually suggestive in a joke with friends, then I guess this image would trouble you.

If your red line is unexpectedly stripping women in public while in a drunken stupor, then De Goey probably comes out worse.

Each to their own, I suppose.

This isn’t about being offended or comparing different scenarios before assessing which one is worse. In isolation, the image is a poor look. Kids, including my six year old girl, follow the AFLW, they don’t need to think this behaviour is socially acceptable. Additionally, the conduct took place in what would be considered the workplace, should we just brush this aside and accept it because the people involved are female athletes?

Truly a waste of space, time and oxygen.

Come on, ET, your opening post was nothing but;

"I’m well aware double standards don’t exist within the media and general public, so I’m eagerly awaiting the impending storm: "

Basically you're claiming there's an equivalence between a drunk dude pulling down girls tops in bars, and some friends posting a silly marginally suggestive photo as a joke.

I mean, seriously; THIS IS YOUR PROFILE PICTURE

Where have I referenced De Goey? I’ve posted further articles above which call out the unacceptable behaviour of unwelcome and/or inappropriate touching in the workplace. Justifying this type of behaviour by comparing it to another one, especially the De Goey incident, is baffling.

Following an incident in 2020 where Dan Butler groped the buttocks of Jade Gresham in the rooms following a match, Gresham released a statement to the media where he said, “There is no context in which this behaviour is appropriate.”

I completely agree with Gresham here. I think it’s quite disgusting that people are justifying the behaviour because it was female on female and stating “Oh well… what De Goey did was way worse.”

I have very strong feelings towards treating everyone with respect, especially when it comes to the workplace. There is no justification whatsoever for this type of conduct.

(I don’t get what my profile pic has to do with this; a hot chick, by herself, in a full bathing suit, having her photo taken, with consent, with no person/s being groped.)

There are power imbalances, and they have to work together in the workplace. Consent may be compromised.

Does this action show respect to the community and in particular the young womens, self, family and friends?

Message sent is, a persons body can be sexualised, and they seem ok with that.

Gee, Collingwood need to do some work helping their young adults, navigate the world and to develope virtues.

I’m someone confused what I’m supposed to be offended about? The incident itself (I’m not), or the lack of reporting about it - which is proven untrue by the posting of a news story about it?

Again, it’s got nothing to do with being offended. It’s about respect, and what is acceptable conduct.

Ok, well in that case I didn’t feel disrespected, and I think the only unacceptable part of the conduct is that it was posted on Social Media. The act itself is clearly consensual.

The link you posted is to nothing but a commentary about the "double standard with relation to Jordan De Goey."

Don't gaslight.

Young women today have adopted quite "laddish" behaviours and attitudes. Some will say its female liberation and they can do as they please which is right of course. Personally, I think a little more decorum wouldn't go astray but then maybe I'm just an old fogie.

It is up to the adults involved to communicate to each other what they feel comfortable with. It's really none of my business.

What's the deal Ethan?  It's not like it's a Gawn insta with his hand cupping Jeffersons crotch or anything.  Jeez.

The mental gymnastics in this thread are pretty impressive.

Sorry, but I don't see the double standards.  Firstly, DeGoey has had multiple incidents of disrespectful/abusive behaviour including a charge of sexual assault.  Steph Chiocci hasn't.  Secondly, De Goey pulled the top down and exposed the nipple of the woman in the nightclub, to which the video shows her clearly pushing it away.  Certainly did not look consentual.  Same with the changeroom incidents cited which again show there is not a lot of evidence of things being consentual. In this photo nothing is exposed.  Is it consentual?  Hard to say, as it's a photo.  But anyone arguing the De Goey incident was consentual is kidding themselves.
