Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Some on here abandoned the ride - if we lose top 2 it’s because we lose top 2.

We have two games at the G and then Sydney.

We should win all three of those games.

The Lions have the Crows and the Saints at the Gabba but the Future Premiers at Marvel.

And Port have GWS and the Tigers at home and Freo over there but you won’t see me barracking for Freo.

We are now in a top 2 position - it’s ours to lose.

Nice to see you dont suffer from the MFC's like yours truly. However with Petty out, all three remaining games will present a challenge.

I'll be back on the death riding bandwagon next week. Go Eagles

Next weeks game against the Eagles is a really vexed one.  If they win another and North don't, it puts North in pole position for Reid.  I can imagine there's a remote chance Eagles trade multiple picks for pick 1, because they both need a deep rebuild and should be wary of the go home factor, but I don't see either of those being such a factor for North and think there's Buckley's chance they'll trade Reid for multiple picks.

Think we actually need Freo to win next week.

The deathride continues.
Jackson spudded it up in the last.

Far from being the match winner, I thought Jackson was really fumbbly below his knees and in front of goals for Freo in that last quarter.  Nothing like that clean confident handling that featured in the bang bang bang.

Not that I've watched his every game, but I get the sense that he's gone backwards this season, compared to how he played for us.

I've said it to plenty of people and got shot down in flames, Jackson is only going to be a mid tier player and never anything else. He's a basketballer.

He has some talent but not necessarily footy talent. Athletically gifted as well but it doesn't fully translate on game day. I think his form will plateau. Hope for his sake it doesn't but I reckon we will win in a landslide with the trade

You should read Freo's TW, nothing short of "Jackson's worth every damn pick".

They really are a delusional bunch.

You've got 'shot down in flames' because blind Freddy can see the kid's a gun with pure footy instincts and skills

Kid bring the operative word.

LIke every gun ruck and/or KPF before him  he won't hit his peak until he is 25.

English, who still hasn't hit his peak but is getting closer, is a good example of this - as of course so was maxy.

The only thing that will prevent him becoming a superstar, other than injury, will be if he doesn't get elite level fit and/or doesn'thave the drive. Same was true of maxy.

He was brilliant in that game. His fumbles and errors in the last were a function of not being fit enough - it's clear from his body shape he is not elite fit (which is a worry I reckon)

I wished stayed at the dees - in my opinion he was stupid not to.

And freo were stupid to get him now. Wait three years, utilise Darcy who is also a gun, and get him closer to his peak. Would hardly had to pay anymore.

One key reason that would have been better is they've snookered themselves in regard to Darcy.

Both need to be full time rucks and they now need Darcy out for Jackson to play his best footy and for them to maximise their return on investment.

The pity now is we could win all three and still cop a final at the Gabba, if the Lions also win their last three with a better %.

Unfortunately I am a spilt milk sort of guy and keep looking back at the Giants, Dockers and Port games.

Anyway, we will be barracking hard for Lions’ opponents the next three games.

Brisbane have Adelaide, Pies and Saints. I don’t see any of those games as a percentage booster even if they do win all 3. Doesn’t mean we will win all three or gain percentage either.
But I back us to do better than them the last 3 weeks, if we can get the forwardline rejigged. Again.

A query I have, which I alluded to, is does he have the myopic, hyper intense drive (not to mention the required level of selfishness) the very best athletes - actually the very best in any field for that matter - have?

It's that drive that differentiates the Traccs, Olivers, Gawns and Bonts from the De Goeys and Stringers.

He strikes me a bit like clarry and maxy in their young days - a bit immature and a bit of a lad.

One they matured they went to the next level. Hopefully the same will be true for Jackson.

The Crows have an excellent record against top 4 teams this year. Lions watch out. Won't surprise me if they lose. At worst I can't see the Lions picking up any percentage, if anything they'll lose percentage this week.

If the Pies lose to Geelong this week, and then your Lions ‘suddenly win everything’ form shift scenario happens; we will be top 2 anyway.

I hope Freo only beat WCE.

I hope on a personal level for him it does, not when he plays us tho. I think he will be a very good player however, just not 2 first rounders worth ( I hope)

Pick 4 this year is going to taste so good

My query is the same. He is a very talented player, of that I have no doubt. The attributes to be a star are there.

But IMO the way he checked out last year was poor, especially given another flag was there for the taking. And to me he did not to me seem to come to Freo in top shape. He still looks a little overweight and he ran out of steam in the last quarter yesterday, which OK long season and he's rucked alone, so maybe that's fair. But game on the line sort of stuff, and he didn't lift like I thought he would given how he played the previous 3 quarters. Fumbles are one thing, but ball watching is another. My Essendon mate commented that he cost Freo that game with his lack of intent in the last, so it's not just biased Melbourne supporter syndrome.

To me he lacks desperation. Maybe it's because he feels satisfied, having won a flag and gone back home on big dollars. Maybe as you say it's immaturity and a bit too much time spent living the life with his mates, and he will eventually grow out of it. But if I invested 3 first round picks and millions of dollars in a player, I would want to see a lot more in terms of consistency of effort.

We could "tank" and get 4th to play against Collingwood at the G, if we really want to avoid the Gabba.

We also expected better from our draft pick 3 during his last season with us.

A lot of people forget that he could have chosen WC as his destination club, which would have yielded a better outcome for us in that trade.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
